The days are getting shorter as we approach
fall, but that doesn’t mean that there will be fewer
events. October may be a spooky month, but don’t
be afraid of not having enough Porsche related fun.
With the cooler weather, it’s a great month to enjoy
your car with your Roadrunner friends.
Santa Fe will be overrun with amazing 356 Porsches
from the 9th through the 14th.
The 356 West Coast Holiday
Event will be put on by the 356
club. Many members also belong to the PCA. Check in on
this event, they will be in need
of volunteers during the week.
PCA Escape to Los Angeles will run from the 24th till the
26th. If you are going to attend,
I hope you have already registered and made arrangements
by now.
The Carrera Region puts
on its Oktoberfiesta in Las Cruces the weekend of the 25th.
Registration has been open
since mid-September at motorsportreg.com. Hurry and register
your spot and make hotel reservations. A DE will be arranged
at The Arroyo Seco Raceway.
The autocross event at Oktoberfiesta is part of our
regions Die Series, and will count as a points event.
Instructors will be available if you have never driven
this venue, or just want tips.
We were unfortunate to not have another autocross in Farmington this year. Due to heavy rain,
and flooding our venue canceled our event the day
before we were scheduled. Due to the lack of time
in the year and the other autocross events planned,
we will not reschedule a Farmington make up this
year. This leaves only two more chances to gain
points in this year’s series.
Great news for the Roadrunner Region, Ann
Mulhern Waller and Steve Waller have volunteered
to manage the club’s website. Ann has had a full
service advertising agency in Albuquerque for
the past 30 years. Many long term clients include
Blake’s Lotaburger, Ron Bell, Montano Acura, the
YMCA, and Baca’s Trees. She has extensive experience working with clients to create and place all
types of advertising, production and printing; design
and manage her client’s websites and also to create
a complete online presence for her client’s businesses.
Steve and Ann became members of RRR last
winter and when Tony wanted to give up the website
management a few months ago,
they stepped forward. Steve is
the Porsche person of the two
as well as a skilled writer with
excellent communication skills.
He has been a Novartis Pharmaceutical Sales Consultant
for more than 32 years and is a
Porsche enthusiast by choice.
Tony has been working
with Steve & Ann to show them
the workings of our existing
website. We don’t really expect
to see any big changes in the
way you receive information or
the timeliness in which you get
your club information. If you do
see a mistake Ann would like to
always be alerted of it so it can
be corrected as soon as possible.
But other than that feel free
to send your club information to
the regular email address: webmaster@roadrunner-region-pca.
org and Ann will respond. Tony Richey will continue
to make improvements and adjustments on the
technical side of the website. It is a two year award
winning website, but Tony has some ideas he would
like to add.
For now, best wishes to everyone.

TSD (Time, Speed, Distance) Rally Time!
From Tony Richey
TSD Rally – That’s “Time, Speed, Distance” for the uninitiated, a group in which I include myself! Nevertheless, Harry Season and I participated in the TSD Rally in the Salt Lake City Parade a last year,
and thought this would be a lot of fun for Roadrunners.
Fortunately, Roadrunner Paul Friedman, in addition to being an experienced wheel to wheel racer, is
also a TSD Rally aficionado. He and I (mostly he) have created a Rally course in Northern Albuquerque, and there will be an official Roadrunner Rally on November 23rd .
Just as important, we’ll hold two Rally Classes the week before the event. Saturday, November 16th,
during the day (time and place to be announced), and on Thursday evening, November 21st (time and
place to be announced), Paul will conduct these classes to explain the way TSD Rally works, giving out
valuable information regarding the timing of the event, as well as the verbiage of the instructions.
The huge success of the TSD Rally during Fiesta this year is another reason to keep this going.
We’re inviting other car clubs to join us, as this should be fun for all. Cost is $10 per car to defray the
expense of paying for lunch for the checkpoint workers. Please RSVP to Tony so we can plan for the
three separate events. This Rally will qualify for end-of-year Die Serie points for your Rally participation, so get ready! It’s time to Rally!

Annual Roadrunner Regional Awards
Each year the Roadrunner Region of the Porsche Club of America salutes it’s outstanding
members with a small plaque or trophy to recognize service and achievement. The Roadrunner Region is recognized as a Class III sized region, meaning that it has between 200 and 500
primary members (not counting associates in this total for classification). Though our region
is growing faster and faster and is now over the 300 member level, it is a small group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who keep the region going and growing. Voting to recognize
those dedicated volunteers is your way to recognize the people whose work allows everyone
to have fun. Please take the time to fill out the ballot on the opposite page, cut it out, stick a
first-class stamp on it and mail it in.
Better yet, get involved. Going to an event is fun, but getting involved is even more fun! Sure
it might take a few hours out of your month, but what better way to get to know the group of
people who understand your Porsche fixation! There are all kinds of ways — large and small
— to get involved in one of the fastest growing and most active PCA regions in the country.
Just call or e-mail any of the people whose names and contact info is listed on the Officials
marquee on page 4 of this newsletter.
Award Descriptions: here’s what you’re voting for….
Enthusiast of the Year: Awarded to the individual who shows great enthusiasm and dedication to the Region, the Marque, and to the Porsche community.
Kim Harmon Instructor of the Year: Named for one of the great enthusiasts and participants
in Region activities in the 80s and early 90s, this award is given to that instructor who demonstrates skills in teaching driving skills and safety to new and experienced participants in the
Die Serie.
Family of the Year: This award is presented to the family (husband-wife, domestic partnership, father-son, mother-daughter, father-daughter, family unit, etc: i.e., not individuals) who
show dedication, service, participation, etc. in Region Activities on an exemplary level.
New Member of the Year: It is designed to reward the energy and activity of a member in
Region activities over the course of a year by a member who has not previously been active.
Event of the Year: This will be awarded to the organizer of the best event of the year, it can
be a drive out, autocross, social event, etc.
Worker of the Year: This award is presented to the individual who is always there helping at
any type of event i.e., social, driving etc. not necessarily as a participant but always there to
lend a hand.

Balloon Fiesta 2013
Story and Photos by Brian Leduc
Some of you may recall that the 2012
edition of the PofABQ balloon launch event was
conducted sans balloons due to an uninvited
guest who rudely barged into the party; higher
than acceptable winds,
which sadly grounded the
launch. Fortunately for all,
increased security at the
city limits kept the winds at
the door, allowing for a picture perfect launch event.
Porsche of Albuquerque again opened their
showrooms at o’dark thirty,
providing warm relief from
the morning chill, along
with traditional New Mexico
balloon launch breakfast
fare of hot coffee, and even hotter burritos. Over
the course of the event, it would appear that
perhaps 40 or so Road Runners, with family and
friends in tow, braved the low 40 degree tempera-
tures to await the Dawn Patrol.
While still somewhat breezy, we collectively held our breath, hoping that the reports
back from the first balloons aloft would confirm
that conditions were suitable for the Mass Ascension, and so it was that at
about 7:30, the 1st wave
took to the skies. As the sun
arose the western horizon
was covered with brightly
colored balloons (Darth
Vader excepted) as wave
after wave took to the skies
to the delight of all in attendance.
As always, kind thanks
go out to the great folks at
Porsche of Albuquerque for again allowing us to
keep a great Road Runner Region tradition going
for yet another year.

Charity
Drive-out
Story and photos by Michael Galaviz
Porsche of Albuquerque helps us out
once again with our Charity Drive Out event to
benefit The Barrett House Foundation. They
were our big sponsor, making it possible to give
100 percent of all entries directly to our club charity. Sponsorship participation was also given by
the Roadrunner Region
and Four Seasons
Cleaning. For those
who are still not familiar
with the Barrett House,
they provide emergency
shelter for women and
children who find themselves homeless due to
circumstances beyond
their control. With a
changing economy, even
women with degrees
have found themselves
homeless due to lost jobs and downsizing.
Kim and Lee Stauffacher volunteered to
run registration in Albuquerque and donated a
raffle prize. They made sure everyone had their
directions and raffle tickets after going through
the registration process and making their donation. They drove last behind everyone and made
sure no one had any problems on the road.
A gimmick rally
started once leaving the
parking lot. The play
sheet had clues and the
correct answers could
be found along route. A
little math and a sharp
eye were needed. After
scoring the play sheets
we had the results. Steve
Fallon and Peggy Baca
had top score. Bob and
Patty Blackwell & Kim and
Lee Stauffacher tied with
the next top score. Luckily
the rally prizes were the
same, so we were able to skip a tie breaker.
It was noticeable that we were in a car

club. Once arriving at the drive out location, everyone parked perfectly spaced in the yard. The
grill was hot and food was cooking. All you could
eat salmon, shrimp with a spicy habanero and
chipotle rub, and potato salad was on the menu.
Burgers were available to anyone wanting some
beef. Liz Tapia and Chris Sanchez volunteered to
cook and baked red velvet and german chocolate
cub cakes. Then off to the beverage area for a
choice of water, tea, 6 types of beer, or margaritas. Food and drink are good after a 45 minute
drive.
The 5 member blues band Mystic Vic
played almost nonstop. The band consisted of
Tom Brahl, Scott Blackwell, Jack Brant, Chaz
Jetty, and Larry Wells. They gave a small break
to allow Amanda and Randy Torbet to pass out
raffle prizes, and then continued playing. Everyone really enjoyed the music. Others were
playing horseshoes, while others were at the mini
shooting range.
We all had a fun time and had good food.
In the process the Roadrunner Region, with
Porsche of Albuquerque raised over $1000.00 to
help homelessness in our community.

Happy Oktoberfest, Zone 9ers! I hope all of
you will adhere to tradition and begin your celebrations in late September! For me, I will continue my
Oktoberfest celebrations by attending Carrera Region’s
OktoberFiesta in Deming and Las Cruces, NM. (More
about that later.)
In mid-August, I attended the DE and PCA
Club Races at High Plains Raceway in Colorado. I
volunteered to help with Grid and I was busy all weekend. I like being in the middle of the action and, other
than being a corner worker, helping in Grid certainly
afforded me that opportunity. Eric Elliff did an excellent
job of organizing and managing all of us grid workers and I enjoyed working with everyone. It was fun to
see the drivers prepare for their DE sessions and race
sessions, and once they were on the track, we were
able to see part of the course from the grid area. On
Saturday, the Enduro race had to be cancelled not long
after it began because of a serious accident in which
we lost one of our most liked and respected members,
Jerry Schouten. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his
family.
Sunday’s races went well and several drivers
from Zone 9 placed in the top spots. For a full listing of the race results, go to www.pca.org/Activities/
ClubRacing/RaceResults.aspx. Hats off to all involved
in organizing and running the DE and Club Races – it
was a very enjoyable weekend!
The next Region event I attended was Llano
Estacado’s monthly breakfast gathering at Furr’s
Cafeteria in Amarillo. The Region may be small, but the
level of participation is high and everyone enjoys getting together. I met a potential new member, Charles,
and I think LLE can count him in with their membership.
As I mentioned in last month’s column, there is
still plenty of time to attend Zone 9 Region events and
