SPRATLEY Gifted Center
The Spratley Gifted Center (grades 3-8) provides a full-time program for identified gifted students
who have highly advanced skills and aptitudes. In addition to mastery of foundational content and
skills, students attending Spratley are expected to master advanced competencies across all content areas.
The Spratley Gifted Center will provide opportunities for extensive research, inquiry based learning,
literary and scientific analysis, independent study, and project based learning that focuses on topics of
strength and interest. This comprehensive instructional program is designed around the cognitive
characteristics and learning styles of gifted children, providing a multidisciplinary curriculum incorporating focused reflection, interaction, and discussion. Best practices for gifted instruction include:

A full range of academic and fine arts
electives are available, including:
Spratley environmental studies include
a middle school science fair, raising trout,
butterfly garden, adopt-a-spot, environmental clean up and the development of
an outdoor classroom. The SGC is a
Green School and Clean City award
winner.
Spratley participates in the following
academic contests:
American Math Exam, Battle of the Books,
Geography Bee, Odyssey of the Mind, PTA
Reflections, Scripps Spelling Bee, Technology
Student Association, and Virginia Math

Twice Exceptional Students
Accommodations or modifications determined
by a student’s special education Individual
Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan, as required
for the student to receive a free appropriate
public education, are incorporated into the
student’s gifted education services at Spratley.
