New showhomes are under construction on Charles Link, and new construction on roads has begun at Charles Close. Creekwood School in Planning & Design Phase T he project to build a new K-9 school in Creekwood remains on track to meet its target opening date of September 2017, though dollars for the very last phase of the new K-9 Creekwood School have not yet been approved. According to Alberta Education Communications Director Tamara Magnan, funding for the “Chappelle West” school has already been approved right through There is also new development underway on the west side of Creekwood: a road crossing the utility corridor has been constructed at Chappelle Way. The new roads through the west lands will be constructed this June, allowing closer access to the Whitemud Creek Ravine area on the west edge of the neighbourhood. HOW Are New School Projects Chosen? Another group of showhomes and lots will be under construction, adjacent to the new school site, by June. School boards submit proposals to Alberta Education highlighting areas of high priority. From there, Alberta Education reviews the proposals according to their own rating system – which ranks the proposed projects on items such health and safety – to determine levels of need. The ones identified as most high-need are then recommended to elected officials for funding. UPDATES FROM THE CITY OF EDMONTON A number of roads in Heritage Valley are planned for 2015 and are in various stages of the design and construction process. Planning and prioritizing of these projects ensures we are minimizing the public impact while at the same time completing as many of the projects within the construction season as possible. JAMES MOWATT TRAIL South of Ellerslie Road to Rutherford Road – This portion will have the second two lanes built for a total of four lanes. 30 Avenue to 22 Avenue – This project will see the construction of an auxiliary lane and right-turn bays. Allard Blvd/Desrochers Gate South to 41 Avenue – Plans are underway to complete two lane upgrades to James Mowatt Trail and the connection to the intersection at 41 Avenue SW. Closure of this road will occur with local access for residents. 41 AVENUE James Mowatt Trail East to the Calgary Trail Interchange – This project will see construction of two lanes. Closure of this road will occur with local access for residents. James Mowatt Trail West to Heritage Valley Trail – Currently in the preliminary phase, no work timelines set. Heritage Valley Trail West to Chappelle Road – This project will see construction of two lanes, and is currently in the review process. 30 AVENUE SW Blackmud Creek Bridge to 103a Street – The timing of this project will occur following the completion of 41 Ave SW. This project will see construction of two lanes from the bridge to 103a Street and is anticipated to start in the fall of 2015 ELLERSLIE ROAD 141 Street to 127 Street – In the 2014 construction season only the portion from 141 Street to Graydon Gate was completed. The remaining portion from Graydon Gate East to 127 Street will be completed, but the work will be deferred until 2016. Project updates, detours, and road closures will be provided throughout the construction season on the developer arterial website. Developers will post signs prior to the start of construction to inform residents and provide alternative routes. That type of funding decision falls to elected officials. Tamara says the project plan remains on track to meet its target opening date of September 2017. In fact, it’s this flavour fearlessness that made the beloved Edmonton dessert an instant hit when it first debuted in 1982. Back in those days, Edmontonians were used to three standard ice cream flavours: strawberry, vanilla and chocolate, explains founder Salvatore Ursino. But he introduced the prairie city to a whole new type of ice cream that married the texture, density and intense flavour of authentic Italian gelato with the sweet creaminess of traditional ice cream. It’s a winning combination that today continues to make the dessert a popular choice on restaurant menus and supermarket shelves across the city. Formerly an antique furniture maker, Salvatore decided in 1982 he wanted to open his own business and be his own boss.
