See it all Nine Unforgettable Productions Welcome to the 2012–2013 Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater Season—a collection of captivating works that includes three new productions, two of which we have never staged before. The fall semester opens with a vengeance as Mozart’s Don Giovanni takes the stage, followed by a new production of Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow, and Massenet’s Cendrillon (Cinderella). The spring semester continues with our first production of Handel’s masterpiece Xerxes, followed by Philip Glass’s mesmerizing Akhnaten. This will be IU Opera’s first production of a Glass opera. In celebration of the 200th birthday of Giuseppe Verdi, his popular comedy Falstaff draws the opera season to a close. The IU Ballet Theater season, with artistic director Michael Vernon, is a powerful offering of diverse choreographies—Fall Ballet: Light and Shade, Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, and Spring Ballet: Old World, New World. Your investment in an IU Opera and Ballet subscription will secure the best seats in the house. In addition, you’ll receive the benefits of additional ticket coupons, free ticket exchanges (subject to upgrade fees, if any), the privilege to renew your seats from season to season, and free lost ticket replacement. You also will be able to buy single tickets to any production before they go on sale to the general public. Join us as our 64th Opera and Ballet Season unfolds to reveal the creative talents of our faculty, guest artists, and students! Sincerely, Gwyn Richards Dean, IU Jacobs School of Music General Manager, IU Opera and Ballet Theater music.indiana.edu/operaballet @IUOperaBallet IUOperaBalletTheater Talk about a womanizer.
