CAMP: MORE THAN SUMMER FUN SOUNDVIEW FAMILY YMCA Camp Nonoma & Walsh Enrichment Camp 2016 Summer Day Camp Brochure WHY SUMMER CAMP AT THE YMCA? At the Y, we help children and teens realize their potential to be active, engaged and thriving members of the community. Our youth programs nurture social, emotional, cognitive and physical development, providing kids with the skills and support they need to be successful in school and life. Summer is the cornerstone of youth development at the Y. When kids have a chance to break from the routine of school and explore in a new setting, the Soundview Family YMCA summer camps are there to help them discover who they are and all they can achieve. At Camp Nonoma and Walsh Enrichment Camp, youth have an opportunity to build new skills and talents, foster relationships with friends and role models, and develop a sense of belonging so they feel comfortable to be themselves. Our welcoming and inspiring setting motivates kids to push past their comfort zones to try new things and build confidence in their abilities. NEW AND EXCITING AT CAMP NONOMA THIS SUMMER! We welcome everyone ages 3-15 to join Camp Nonoma! At Camp Nonoma and Walsh Enrichment camps you can expect plenty of fun and exciting activities each day! We’ve made some great additions to our camp this summer! In addition to our field trips for Pioneers and Adventurers, we have added special events for our Discover, Greenhorn, & Explorer Campers. Each week will be something new from magic shows to carnival parties to a visit from Curious Creatures, we’ve got a lot planned for all ages this year! Our goal is to make sure all children learn to be safe in and around the water. Children in Discovery and Greenhorn units will receive 3 swim lessons per week with no additional charge. Participants in the Explorer, Pioneer, and Adventurer units can take advantage of our swim lessons twice a week at a minimal cost. Here at the Soundview Family Y there is something for every child! Camp Nonoma is more than a camp, we are a family. THE Y IS HERE FOR YOU The Y has supported the health and well-being of youth through camp for over 130 years and today is one of the largest providers of camp programs in the United States, serving more than 1.3 million kids and adults a year. Whether day camp or specialty camp, youth will find a program that best meets their needs and summer schedule. With financial assistance available, all kids have an opportunity to experience camp. Please talk with us if you or someone you know could use assistance to send a child to camp. OUR MISSION: To put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. SOUNDVIEW FAMILY YMCA P 203 481 9622 W soundview.org WHO IS THE STAFF? Eighty percent of our staff are 18 years or older and each receives a minimum of thirty hours of training in safety, positive behavior management, activity planning, and more. Our staff give kids the confidence to be themselves, let loose and be silly. We hold ourselves to the highest standard of care to ensure your child makes the most out of their summer in a safe and structured environment. GRADE LEVEL GROUPINGS Rooted in the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, the Y’s approach to youth development helps kids grow in spirit, mind and body, all while having fun. Our camp allows children the opportunity to learn new skills everyday. By offering shorter periods of 35 minutes per activity, we allow children to engage in a wide variety of activities each and every day, including: arts and crafts, swimming, sports, & team building. Explorers, Pioneers, and Adventurers will also learn archery and use our high ropes course. Each week we build confidence and self-esteem by celebrating Wacky Wednesday in our silliest outfits that correspond to the week’s theme! Every morning we start off the day by bringing a few staff in front of the camp to do an activity that gets the kids laughing, cheering, and ready for a great day! Pioneers and Adventurers will go on field trips and our younger campers will enjoy special entertainment. All campers will be bussed to one of our local schools to enjoy a delicious, FREE, hot lunch daily. Please see our lunch calendar for more information. COUNSELOR IN TRAINING Counselors in Training (CIT) are today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders!
