Join us and find out what fun awaits you and your friends this summer. Our program is for children ages 2 to 8 years old. We offer 6 Wednesdays of fun at Village Church from June 8 - July 13, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We have a creative staff whose goal is to plan an awesome day for your children with a special theme each week. Children will enjoy a wide variety of arts and crafts, music, storytelling, water play, outdoor fun, and even exotic animals, while making new friends. The cost for Kid’s Day Out for children 2 years old is $175, and for ages 3 to 8 is $165. Everyone gets a t-shirt! Any questions? Heartland Presbyterian Center Heartland Presbyterian Center, Parkville, Missouri, offers overnight camping and day camp activities for children having completed grades 2 - 12. Activities include swimming, horseback riding, crafts, games, Bible study, and campfires. Heartland Center is dedicated to building relationships and impacting lives in a Christ-centered environment. “We exist because we firmly believe that God changes lives through our Christ-centered programs.” The brochures for registration and information are available in the Children and Family Ministry Office at Village Church. Contact the camp directly at 816-891-1078 or online www.HeartlandCenter.org. 3 Creations by Kids: Village Summer Camp CbK offers summer enrichment as well as creative play! Camps will be for children ages 4, 5, and 6 years old and those who have just completed grades K - 6. Most camps are scheduled in weekly classes with morning and afternoon sessions. Morning classes are 9:00-12:00, and afternoon classes are from 12:30-3:30. Schedule exceptions include camp 6C/D which is 10:00-3:00 and 4-day camps. “Before care” is from 8:00-9:00 a.m. and will cost $5.00 per day. If a child is enrolled in both morning and afternoon sessions in the week, a supervised lunch space is provided. The cost is $85.00 per class (unless noted in brochure) and includes a t-shirt. Join the fun as we discover new and classic reads, embark on storytelling, play literacy games, act out favorite stories, and write our own future award-winning book! Fieldtrip to meet local authors. Travel to Hawaii with us through books, crafts, snacks, and adventures. Aloha! K, 1 Who doesn’t love these black and white waddling birds? This is a chance to learn all about penguins. We’ll be making some “black and white” crafts, conducting experiments, visiting penguins, and writing about these fun birds! (Anita Felzke and Gina Felzke) 4 The Rock Slinger and His Greatest Hit Music Camp is June 6-10 for children who have completed grades K-5. Monday through Friday 12:30-3:30 in Friendship Hall with a Friday evening dinner/performance. Arrr you ready to learn about maps? Come look for treasures over hills and mountains and through rivers and valleys. Will you travel north or south? Come learn map skills in this “pirate ship class” with your fellow mateys! (Anita Felzke and Gina Felzke) 2E– ABC Safari Preschool ages 4, 5, 6 Learn pre-reading skills as we hunt letters and animals on our safari. We will be using our imaginations and creativity. K, 1, 2 We will observe and learn about our local, natural surroundings that God has created for our enjoyment and protection. We will expand our knowledge and exercise our bodies through Yoga and Brain Gym. Lemonade stand, math facts, and money fun all week - Cha-Ching! On a walking field trip to The Village, we will learn about money and the cost of ingredients. A tasty way to learn math! (Debbie Spurlin, Megan Evans) 3EE– Action 1-2-3 (4 days—$68) Preschool ages 4, 5, 6 (M T TH F) Nurture your child’s creativity while building confidence, concentration, and communication skills in this delightful class. Mark your calendars for a short production on Friday afternoon. (Anita Menke and Aislinn Menke) 3F- Monet and Me Completed Gr. K, 1, 2 Artists Claude Monet, Jim Dine, Vincent Van Gogh, Keith Haring, and Deborah Butterfield will inspire campers as we paint, draw, and make sculpture. Completed Gr. 3, 4, 5, 6 How can a simple act of kindness change the world? Come learn how and be a part of it! Campers will spend much of their time carrying out random acts of kindness in the community and serving others. Join in! Pass it on! Stacey ElAttar brings a wealth of creativity and enthusiasm to the summer program. Stacey is a Village Preschool teacher and is our Snacks with Stacey nutritionist. Anita Felzke taught second grade for 30+ years in the Olathe School District, retiring in 2013. She loves learning and laughing right along-side the students. Anita enjoys traveling, reading, and working with animals. Julie Hauber has taught for 31 years, 25 years in early childhood and the last 11 years as a part of Village Church Preschool! She enjoys spending time with family and being outdoors walking, golfing, and gardening. Jenny Hull works at the Village Church Child and Family Development Center, is a music specialist at our Village Preschool, and directs the Village Church Morning Stars music program. She loves crafting and family! Jill Kirkland is a retired kindergarten teacher and is a first year Village Church preschool teacher. She is a mother to one of our preschoolers and enjoys spending time with her family. Stephanie Leiserowitz taught preschool for 21 years, and for the past 10 years has been at Village in the 6 Extended Day program. She enjoys gardening as well as volunteering with Paws for Freedom. AM Classes 9:00-12:00 WEEK 4 · June 27 - July 1 4A– Stepping up to Kindergarten Preschool ages 4, 5, 6 In this camp we will focus on skills needed for a GREAT start to Kindergarten. Join us as we learn through games, stories, cooking, and play! This is sure to be a fun time. (Stephanie Leiserowitz and teen) 4AA– Cowpoke (4 days—$68) Preschool ages 4, 5, 6 (M T TH F) It is Rootin’ Tootin’ cowpoke week! Calling all cowgirls and cowboys to join us for some Wild West fun. We’ll bring the ranch to Village Church with a real saddle, steer roping experience, and more! (Julie Hauber and Kayla van Thullenar) 4B– M&M’s, Music and Movement Completed Gr. K, 1, 2 Spend a week experimenting with sounds and instruments during this camp of music and fun! (Renee Reimer and Elizabeth Young) 4C– Art Exploration Completed Gr. 3, 4, 5, 6 Students will create a sculpture, a silly Cubist paper bag head, a glue batik, and a self portrait handprint piece. Please bring an oversized shirt to wear as a smock, and a pair of nylon pantyhose. Melissa Terryberry and Mary Grace Poskin) PM Classes 12:30-3:30 4E– I Spy Preschool ages 4, 5, 6 Secret Agents will solve mysteries using hands-on activities. Agents will sharpen their observation skills on an alphabet hunt, find I Spy colors, and conduct a scavenger hunt. We will expand our knowledge and exercise our bodies through Yoga and Brain Gym. (Cindy O’Reilly and Mary Grace Poskin) 4G– Cooking 101 Completed Grades 3, 4, 5, 6 Spend a week learning some fun cooking skills and recipes. Come hungry and ready to get creative with food. (Renee Reimer and teen) Sue McGinness has a master’s degree in special education and has taught at Village for 7 years. She and her husband have 2 children, both of whom attended Village Preschool. Sue enjoys reading, music, and travel. Anita Menke has a bachelor’s in elementary education and theatre arts as well as a master’s in curriculum and instruction. During her 3 years at Village, she has witnessed the wonder and excitement of children. Mollie O’Donnell is a first year Village Preschool teacher with our 3's class. She enjoys reading, road trips with her family, and volunteering. Cindy O’Reilly has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education and has taught for 22 years. The past 9 years she has been a reading specialist for K-5th. She and her husband Joe have 4 grown sons. Renee Reimer is a second year Village Preschool teacher with our 3s class. She is a recent graduate of Bethel College and enjoys music and art. Debbie Spurlin has taught at Village Church Preschool for 27 years and was one of the first Creations by Kids teachers 12 years ago. Debbie is thrilled to be working with her daughter this year! Melissa Terryberry is a full time high school art educator. She has 2 children and enjoys crafting in her spare time. Learning about Geocaching is inspiration for a fun, summer family vacation. Mary van Thullenar is a Village Preschool teacher with our 3 and 4 year olds. She has taught summer camp for the last 4 years. Mary enjoys teaching children how to move and be healthy. 7 AM Classes 9:00-12:00 WEEK 5 · July 5-8* *4 day week, T-F 5A– Wee Wizards (4 days—$68) (T W TH F) Preschool ages 4, 5, 6 Preschool scientists will discover the world of dinosaurs, volcanoes, and more in this fun-packed morning of experiments and projects. It’ll be out of this world! Join us for fun adventures with the Cat in the Hat! (Renee Reimer and teen) 5C– Tournament of Board Games (4 days—$68) (T W TH F) Completed Gr. 3, 4, 5, 6 Children will use their brains to play a variety of table, board, and card games. Outside, campers can stretch their arms and legs playing different yard and playground games. Campers will also have opportunities to invent and create their own games using different recycled materials to take home and share. Come join us for a fun week - let the games begin! (Melissa Terryberry and teen) 8 AM Classes 9:00-12:00 WEEK 6 · July 11-15 6A– Block City Preschool ages 4, 5, 6 Help us build our city at Village Church. We will use different building materials to create structures. A special visitor will bring big trucks for show-and-tell as our class learns about community workers. K, 1, 2 Spark your child’s imagination and creative spirit with music and drama. We will find their hidden talents! Mark your calendar for our production on Friday afternoon. Volunteers of the church will visit with us about serving others. During the week, campers will also have opportunities to travel and do outreach ministry. Bring a friend! We can make a difference. At Surf Shack VBS, kids have fun being kids as they explore the Bible, make new friends, sing songs, and learn how to catch the wave of God’s amazing love! Your child will “surf” through life with God and others. This 2016 VBS includes Catch-the-Wave Music, Discovery Dunes Science, Craft Hut Art Creations, delicious snacks at Shack Snacks, games at Recreation Station, and presentation of mission opportunities at Beach Ball Mission! VBS surfers of all ages will learn that God gives them the wisdom and love to step out in faith as Jesus works through them —whether they’re at school, playing with friends, or helping out at home. This VBS week will make a lasting impact on surfers, so grab your sunglasses and beach towel and head to Surf Shack! Parents are invited to a closing celebration: Friday at 11:45 a.m. in Friendship Hall. K-6th Staff from Heartland Camp will meet us at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 63rd and Roe Ave, and will bring a unique blend of outdoor and congregational ministries. It’s for kids who have completed grades K-6. Heartland staff will bring art supplies, curriculum resources, game equipment, and stories with activities. The curriculum is Christ-centered and activity based, which encourages hands-on learning. The strength of Heartland’s TRAVELING Day Camp is people! The teams are comprised of young adults who are selected for their work ethic, Christian commitment, and love of children. The Heartland staff is trained to lead Bible studies, worship, singing, & crafts, as well as wild, zany recreation. Christian camps are uniquely capable of impacting lives for Jesus Christ. This week can serve as a life-changing experience in your child’s faith development. Our counselors invest in your kids and model what it means to live a life for the Lord.
