Corporate Profile
Ain Society is a voluntary welfare organization registered with the Registry of Society on 10th October 2000,
with an IPC status, and is affiliated to the National Council of Social Services. Our focus is on helping families
with cancer-stricken members. We provide financial, mental and emotional support for all our clients with the
hope of easing their burden as they are going through this very trying period.

Life is all about making everyday count. For the elderly and cancer-stricken, it actually goes beyond counting
the years or months, even days. For them, it is about making every moment matter. At Ain Society, we believe
that it is only when you look with your heart, can you see a vision of hope. It is only when there is shared belief

At Serenity, we hope to provide an oasis of solace for individuals and families affected by cancer through guidance on financial, social and psycho-emotional support.
Support
Programmes and services are introduced and tailor-made to suit
the needs of the cancer patients and their family members. This is
to provide support while they navigate from the period of diagnosis
to remission.

There is a need to empower our stakeholders
with skills and knowledge. We believe that
through education, both patients and family
members are kept informed of the available resources, thus improving their quality of life.
Being aware of our own strengths and limitations,
there is a need to build partnerships with other
organizations. This is to harness the available
resources in order to deliver a holistic service for
our patients and their family members.
There is also a need for us to create awareness
amongst the community, which is our second
stakeholder, in our fight against cancer.
Cancer Care Services
Financial Assistance
We help families of the cancer-stricken who are limited financially by providing financial assistance through our schemes,
with hope to alleviate the financial burdens of these families. The tangible assistance is rendered to ensure patients’ adherence to medical treatments and acquire the intended consumables. Apart from assisting with medical cost, we also provide
monetary assistance for low-income families affected by cancer.
Counselling
The struggles to cope with cancer are often confounded by many circumstances. Managing one’s acceptance and expectation can be difficult for both the cancer patient and family members. We provide counselling for the patients and family
members to support a more positive outlook of the future and develop effective coping strategies. We conduct various
forms of counselling from individual to family to support groups. Support groups are organized once a month where patients express their feelings and thoughts.
Support Groups
We hold support groups on a monthly basis. The support groups serve as an avenue for our cancer patients to share experiences and knowledge. This enables our clients to be aware that they are not alone in the battle against cancer. The emphasis on HOPE and STRENGTH are inculcated during these sessions.
Therapeutic Play
Through therapeutic play, our young clients of Clubskidz are encouraged to express their emotions and at times enhance
their psychological ability. One of the activities is Artsploration, where the kids are encouraged to express their emotions
through artwork.
Back 2 School
A child who may be affected directly or indirectly from the cancer treatment may be unable to attend school due to fatigue
and the effects of treatment. Thanks to student bodies in universities such as NUS and NTU, we are able to deliver homebased tuition for these affected children.
Social and Recreational
We organize a range of outings and annual events for our beneficiaries and their families. The objectives of these events
are to enhance the emotional and social interaction skills and to promote bonding between the client and their families.
Workshops
We conduct workshops and courses which focus on improving the individual's quality of life. Our current workshops and
courses include deportment classes, Moneywize and problem-solving skills.
Spiritual Classes
Quran recitation classes for Muslim patients serve as a platform for clients to gain spiritual strength in dealing with cancer.
Similarly if necessary, for non-Muslims, we will ensure their spiritual needs are taken care of too.
Roadshows on Cancer
Series of talks are regularly organized, focusing on the medical and social aspects of cancer. The objective of these roadshows is to dispel damaging myths and misconceptions about cancer. Through this, we hope to generate awareness especially within the Malay/Muslim community and improve the public’s attitude towards cancer.
Mammogram Screening
Breast cancer remains the leading cause of death among Singaporean females. We work closely with the National
Healthcare Group Diagnostic to bring the ‘Mammo-bus’ to the neighbourhood to make it easier for residents to get their
mammogram screening done.

Elder Care Services
SAGA
SAGA (Serenity Active Goldern Ageing) seeks to enhance “Meaningful Lives While Ageing” by encouraging
the elderly to live an active lifestyle, individually and as a community. SAGA started to recruit senior citizens
around the Eunos area since April 2013. About 215 elderly, aged 50 to 85 years old, have so far registered
their interest to participate in the active ageing programmes organized by Ain Society and our partners.
Mental Wellness Session
Every Monday 2pm - 4pm. SAGA Collaborates with Health Promotion Board, Fei Yue Community Services, RSVP (The
Organization of Senior Volunteers) and other agencies in advocating mental wellness of the elderly through workshop,
health food demo, dialogue, group games, play & art work. The sessions are held at the Multi Purpose Hall of Ain Society.
Physical Health Exercise
Every Tuesday 9am - 10am. Two professional volunteer trainers from MOV3 provide Movement Efficiency Training (MET)
exercises to better coordinate the mind and body movements of the elderly. The exercises are held at the Multi Purpose
Hall of Ain Society.
Psycho-Emotional Well-Being
Every Wednesday 10am - 2pm. A group of about 10 elderly will explore places of interest. The outings are guided trips
enriched with educational value through commentary on the places of interest. The aim is to sustain psycho-emotional wellbeing through appreciation of the beauty of nature and interesting places.
Social Kampung Lifestyle
Every Thursday 2pm - 4pm. In promoting community bonding and cohesive living, elderly residents from various racial
groups come together to sing, play games and interact with one another. These sessions are held at the Multi Purpose
Hall of Ain Society.
Therapeutic Geriatric Counselling
SAGA reserves Friday as the day to provide clinical support to the elderly during their difficult times if the needs arises. We
collaborate with Shan You Counselling Services in providing assessment, recommendations and solutions to their predicament. The counselling session is conducted in the conducive counselling room of Ain Society.

Daffodils Giveaway
More than 400 volunteers including cancer survivors and Ain Society staffs were stationed at 12 MRT stations
on 8th February 2014 to distribute daffodils in support of World Cancer Day. It was a bright day as the yellow
daffodils attracted curious passers-by. In less than three hours, all 50,000 daffodils were given out. A QR-code
printed on the daffodils wrappers, which when scanned with a mobile phone application, presented users about
the common myths and misconceptions about cancer.

Visits to Hospices
Following the Daffodils Giveaway event, 16 volunteers from Ain Society including cancer survivors and elderly
members from SAGA (Serenity Active Golden Ageing) group visited HCA Hospice and Dover Park Hospice on
17th February 2014. Aside from distributing daffodils to the residents at the hospices, food ration items such as
milk and biscuits were given out to patients from the hospices. Ain Society aims to spread the message of
hope to the cancer patients.

Breast Cancer Seminar and Launch of Ain Society New Logo
On 15th February 2014, Ain Society organized a seminar on breast cancer to increase awareness and dispel
myths and misconceptions about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. The seminar, held at
SingPost Auditorium concluded our cancer roadshows that had been organized at various mosques and community centres since October 2013. Invited speakers, Dr Melanie Seah, Consultant at the Breast Cancer Clinic
of Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Ustaz Badli Shah Alaudin from Malaysia, presented talks on the different perspectives of dealing with cancer. Dr Seah presented the facts and myths of breast cancer while Ustaz Badli
Shah presented a talk on spirituality and dealing with the emotional stresses of cancer.
Sharing sessions by an ovary cancer patient whose mother is a breast cancer survivor and by a spouse of a
deceased breast cancer patient gave insights on dealing with the disease. It was a very emotional session,
which brought some to tears. Although the topic for the seminar was breast cancer, the Guest-of-Honour,
Speaker of Parliament Mdm Halimah Yacob brought to attention on the issue of lung cancer among men.
Speaking at the event, Mdm Halimah stressed that more needs to be done to curb the habits of smoking especially among men. Mdm Halimah was there to launch Ain Society’s new logo and passenger bus donated by
Hong Leong Foundation.
Hong Leong Foundation was very generous in donating us our first ever passenger bus. The passenger bus ferry
our less mobile beneficiaries to and from their medical appointments, as well as to our centre-based programmes. THANK YOU HONG LEONG FOUNDATION!

Enriching Lives of
Seniors Programme
Serenity Active Golden Ageing
(SAGA) is very thankful to RSVP Singapore (The Organisation of Senior
Volunteers) for conducting a three
months pro bono, the Enriching Lives
of Seniors Programme (ELSP) for the
elderly. The programme, conducted
from March to May 2014, was designed to boost the mental well-being
of the elderly through simple and interactive learning activities such as
Arts and Craft, Sudoku and Cognitive
puzzles.

registered participants will continue to
live a meaningful live with the love
offered by community leaders.

Projek Kasih at Mediacorp SURIA
Mediacorp Suria Channel and Ain Society collaborated for the second time for Projek Kasih on 16th May 2014.
Hosted by Mediacorp artists Khairudin Saharom, Nurul Aini, Dyn Norahim and child star Budiman Hakeem, the
programme featured two hours of entertainment and heart touching interviews of our beneficiaries who shared
their experiences in the struggle against cancer.
The show kicked off with Eiss singing Ain Society’s theme song ‘”Bagai Kaca Berderai””(Shattered Glass)
along with our cancer children of Clubskidz. Throughout the rest of the show, viewers were entertained by Taufik Batisah, Gurmit Singh and Malaysia’s latest singing sensation, Hafiz Suip impressive performances. There
were also thoroughly entertained with performances by famous local chefs, musical child prodigies and “Cup of
Life” - a cheerleading and freestyle football display by famous SURIA channel stars.
Prior to the live show, Gurmit Singh and Taufik Batisah visited our featured beneficiaries’ houses to conduct
interviews. These interviews gave viewers a peek into the lives of our cancer patients and the struggle they
went through, including a story of our youngest beneficiary, ‘Baby Cinta’ who was only 11 months old.
To show support for those who are affected by cancer, the performers hung origami paper cranes at the end of
their set. The paper cranes, signifies HOPE - a message that Ain Society wants to spread to everyone who is
dealing with cancer. This year, Projek Kasih TV Telepoll managed to surpass the projected collection amount
of $500,000. The total amount collected reached $527,000 that evening.

Projek Kasih Radio Telepoll
Our radio telepoll received strong support from listeners each year. The campaign, now in its 8th year which
ran from 23rd May to 13th June 2014 was led by three favourite radio personalities and idols, AB Shaik, Hafeez Glamour and Dyn Norahim who is official ambassador for Ain Society.
Sad and heart-wrenching stories of clients, who are cancer patients under Ain Society’s care and the appeal
from the DJs during the four consecutive weeks on air, touched the heart of listeners and drove them to dial in
their donation through three Telepoll lines. We were touched by the consistently strong support given by radio
listeners each year. Our 2014 Telepoll campaign raised $339,000.
Dyn Norahim, who has been chosen to be the official ambassador for Projek Kasih since 2012, “My experience
doing the interviews with the cancer patients made me realized that cancer comes unexpectedly. Be it young
or old, we can’t anticipate cancer. I asked myself - Am I going to be next?”
Ain Society would like to thank all our kind donors for their contributions towards helping those in need.

Serenity Mother’s Day Celebration
On Saturday 17th May 2014 Ain Society threw a Mother’s Day celebration at Lagun Sari restaurant for our
benefiaries from the Serenity Cancer Support Group participants and their family members. The celebration
was accompanied with fun and light games and wonderful performances by our cancer patients. One of our
beneficiaries, Mr Talib Bin Salleh, went on stage and performed a song dedicated to all mothers. Despite suffering from stomach cancer, he impressed our guests with his vocal abilities.
30 lucky draw prizes, consisting of shawls and dresses sponsored by Aurah Boutique, Sahara Shawls and
Shawls by Kiss were given away including household appliances courtesy of Friends in Charity. The grand
lucky draw prize-winner walked away with a gold bracelet worth $400 from GoldHeart, Women Empowerment
Programme by Mdm Nor Jannah Levinge and shawl from Shawls by Kiss.

CEO Appointment as Member of South West CDC
Congratulations to Mr Haji Md Yusof Ismail for receiving the Certificate of Appointment as Member of the South
West Community Development Council on 27th May 2014. We hope that Mr Haji Md Yusof Ismail, in his third
term as District Councillor will continue to uphold high standards and excellence in serving the community.

Visit by ICCE-Colombo Plan
On 17th June 2014, Mr Tay Bian How, Director of ICCE-Colombo Plan of which head office is in New York,
USA, and Ms Winona Pandan, training coordinator from ICCE-Colombo Plan visited our Serenity Social Service Centre. They were in Singapore for a meeting with the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) where they decided to drop by to pay a visit to our CEO, Haji Md Yusof Ismail, who is also an appointed international trainer by
Colombo Plan.

Qudwah Hasanah - Exemplary Father Award
On 15th June 2014, over 400 guests including beneficiaries, celebrated Father’s Day at this year’s Qudwah
Hasanah 2014 (Exemplary Father Award 2014) event held by Ain Society at The Stamford, Swissotel. This
was the third year Ain Society organized the Exemplary Father Award event. The event showcased stories of
sacrifices and roles fathers played in ensuring the successes of their children in their lives, education and wellbeing. Smartly dressed in their Baju Melayu and Baju Kurung (traditional Malay clothing), guests were greeted
with live drama performances by a renowned local Malay cultural group - Sri Warisan, and also Orkes Mutiara.
Beautifully orchestrated, Orkes Mutiara performed nostalgic songs from the 1960s popularized by movies produced by the legendary Cathay Keris Studios.
At the event, Ain Society announced five nominees from different backgrounds, who were nominated by their
family members, friends and acquaintances as Best Exemplary Father. To proceed to the final round, nominees had to fulfill a set of criteria and be interviewed by a panel of six-member jury consisting of a child development consultant, doctor, entrepreneur, motivational trainer and Syariah court mediator. The criteria included,
but were restricted to, facing hardships, leading by example, providing the family financially and educating his
children, participating in either social work, volunteering, caring for the environment or other noble causes.
Mr Rajah Somita was crowned as this year’s winner of The Exemplary Father Award Qudwah Hasanah 2014.
Mr Somita, 67 years old, and father to five children, went through tough times to get to his children to the varsities. A decade ago, despite his poor health due to nose cancer, Mr Rajah willingly took up more than one job to
meet the needs of his children’s education. His sacrifice however, did not go to waste, as his children are all
now graduates in various fields.

Friday Mosque Collection
More than 100 volunteers from Ain Society gathered at the Serenity Social Service Centre on 20th June 2014
to participate in the Friday Mosque Collection donation drive. Accompanying our volunteers for the project was
a group of taxi drivers from Perpaduan Amal Dan Ibadah (PADI) who dedicated their time and energy to
transport our volunteers to and from the 67 participating mosques all over Singapore.
Volunteers poured in to the Serenity Social Service Centre as early as 10 am, all geared up to perform their
duties with enthusiasm. The volunteers consist of adults, teenagers, children as well as beneficiaries from Ain
Society and their families. Despite the scorching weather, volunteers willingly held on to their donation boxes at
the respective mosques. At about 2.30 pm, the volunteers returned their donation boxes to our centre with collections from their assigned mosques.
This year, we managed to collect slightly over $45,000, a feat not possible without the help of our volunteers.
Ain Society would like to express our utmost gratitude to the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) for
giving us the opportunity to have this fundraising effort since 2012. All proceeds are allocated to help support
and fund programmes held at the Serenity Social Service Centre for our beneficiaries.

Iftar (Break-Fast During Ramadan) with Ain Society
On 4th July 2014, Ain Society was honored to have received sponsorship by Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel for an
Iftar session together with our beneficiaries and supporters. The event was graced by the Guest-of-Honour,
MP for Marine Parade GRC, Assoc Prof Fatimah Lateef, who handed out green packets to the Ain Society
beneficiaries.
With Riz Sunawan as the host of the event, the Guest-of-Honour Assoc Prof Fatimah Lateef opened the evening with a welcome speech followed by a sermon by Ustaz Hj Ahmad Dahri. As the guests break fast and enjoy
the various line-up of delicious food, the students of Hougang Secondary School performed a few music pieces
that they had put together specially for the event. These students also provided a free moving photo booth service complete with fun and colourful props, so that the guests were able to capture the memorable event and
bring it home as a gift.

Hari Raya Gathering, Salam Lebaran
Salam Lebaran is an event dedicated especially to the donors and supporters of Ain Society who have given
us their utmost support through various events and programmes. Through this event, we wanted to show how
grateful and thankful we are towards their kind and unwavering support towards our cause.
Held at InterContinental Hotel on the 17th August 2014, highlight of the event was the presentation by Ain Serenity team. Besides presenting the current number of beneficiaries Ain Society has, the Serenity team also
showed how the lives of Cancer patients and their families had changed with the help and contributions of the
supporters and donors.

Clubskidz Trip to Jurong Bird Park
On 14th September 2014, Ain Society had the privilege to organize an outing for the Clubskidz members together with their families to the Singapore Jurong Bird Park. The activity was sponsored and organized by the
South East Mosque Cluster (SEMC). The kids and their family truly had an enjoyable time during the outing.
Ain Society would like to thank SEMC for their sponsorship and would like to extend our gratitude to their volunteers who rendered assistance during the trip. The support has gone a long way in bringing smiles to our
Clubskidz children.

Clubskidz at Formula One Race Practice
On 19th September 2014, the Clubskidz members aged 9 to 12 years old were given the opportunity to watch
the practice session of the F1 race at the Marina Bay Circuit. The activity was sponsored by the Singapore
Tourism Board.
It was their first time, getting up close to watch the practice session of these fast cars live instead of watching it
on television or online. It was also a first time for them to be at the Singapore Sky Suite and to enjoy a buffet
while the F1 practice session was taking place below. They also had the opportunity to spend some time with
Mr Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Mayor of North East District.
Ain Society would like to thank the Singapore Tourism Board for their kind sponsorship that brought smiles to
our Clubskidz children.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Mammobus Screening &
Walk Against Cancer
On 11th October 2014, Ain Society organised a Mammobus screening. We invited renowned guest speaker
Dr Elly Sabrina Ismail, to grace the event with a talk titled “Do you really think breast cancer will not affect
you?” and approximately 30 participants attended this one-hour talk.

Charity Dinner
Ain Society Charity Dinner 2014 was held on 15th October 2014 at the Orchid Country Club. The Guest-ofHonour Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister for Manpower and Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC, graced
the dinner attended by 360 guests. The evening started with a speech by the GOH.
Highlights of the event were the line-up of performances by Ain Society’s own volunteers and beneficiaries. We
had our children cancer patients, better known as Clubskidz, to showcase their Kolintang music, the elderly
volunteers SAGA displayed their dancing talents, while the youth volunteers, also known as Ain Youth Wing performed 3 songs in different languages. We also had a special energetic dance performance by a group of
intellectually-challenged youths known as D’Artistes.
Our dinner would not have been possible without the support of our regular donors like the NTUC FairPrice
Foundation, Lee Foundation, Tote Board, Singapore Island Country Club, MUIS, Far East Organization, Loyang Tua Pek Kong, Woodlands CCMC, Woodlands Galaxy CCMC, PAP Community Foundation, Darul Aman

Visit by President Tony Tan
31st October 2014 certainly marks a proud and unforgettable moment for Ain Society indeed, because we received a visit by honorable guest, President Tony Tan Keng Yam. The President was greeted with a warm welcome by our Board Members, staff and volunteers and was presented with a short performance by a performing artiste. As one of the beneficiaries for President’s Challenge 2014, we were extremely grateful for this opportunity in having Dr Tony Tan to visit us at our centre and to try out playing the Kolintang instrument. Thank
you, Mr President!
Ain Society’s Kolintang Musical Group had the honor of opening the President’s Star Charity 2014 show featured on Mediacorp Channel 5. Collaborating with Chinese Orchestra Ruan Xian Chamber Ensemble for the
first time, they played a wonderful rendition of Katy Perry’s roar. Despite performing in front of a huge crowd for
the first time, our Kolintang Group did extremely well. And most importantly, they were able to inspire the others out there.
