Principal’s Message
Dear Parents,
Orchard Elementary School is a great place to be. We have an incredibly supportive community, a
faculty that is committed to students’ success, and parents that provide countless hours of service
to the school. It is truly a nurturing, caring, and safe environment. However, I feel one of my most
important responsibilities is to continually ensure that the school is a safe place for all in attendance. One area of safety that all individuals are concerned about is that of bullying. It is my commitment to address bullying and ensure that students are safe and parents are informed.
Often times bullying is misattributed. While offensive behavior is certainly inappropriate and not
tolerated it is not necessarily bullying. For this reason it is important that all of us have a common
understanding of what bullying is.
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The
behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying includes actions such
as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding
someone from a group on purpose. To keep it simple: bullying is repeated, an imbalance of power, and purposeful.
This year all teachers are taking time to teach children what bullying is, how to recognize it, and
how to stop it. I encourage you to have a similar conversation with your child. Additional information and support on bullying is available at stopbullying.gov.
Together we can help prevent this inappropriate and damaging behavior. If there is ever a concern about bullying please contact me immediately. I am committed to investing the time needed
to solve any bullying issues that arise.
Thank you for your support and lets make this school year a tremendous one.

PTA Message
Welcome to another great school year at Orchard!! Our PTA
theme for this year is "ORCHARD EAGLES UNPLUGGED". With this
theme we would like to focus on helping our students and families to spend less
time with technology and media, and more time reading, playing
(especially outside), creating, exploring, spending time with family and
friends, and generally living a well-rounded life! Students will participate in monthly "UNPLUGGED CHALLENGES" to help achieve this goal.
When each challenge is completed, students will earn a BRAG TAG to
display on their back packs. At the end of the year, if students have
completed at least 5 challenges, they will be able to spin our prize
wheel and win a reward! The monthly challenges will be:
September- Create something and submit it to REFLECTIONS
October- Get active and Play outside everyday
November- Go Tech Free for a week. No video games or TV
December- Perform an act of service for someone in need
January- Read, Read, Reading challenge
February- Write a thank you note each week
March- Be Soda or Candy Free for the month
April- Run/ Walk challenge
We will also have bonus Brag Tags for participating in the Egg Drop and/or Science
Fair!
We believe these challenges will be fun and rewarding for your children and hope
you will encourage them to participate. You can even make it a family challenge and
get everyone involved!

Spanish Immersion PTA Message
Dear Parents,
It was nice to meet many of you at Back to School Night. We are excited to welcome Srta. Valladares, the new first grade Spanish Immersion teacher, to the Orchard Spanish Immersion program. We
are also excited welcome first graders to the Spanish Immersion program as we begin the transition to the state’s dual immersion model.
One of the main events for the Spanish Immersion program is the Dance Festival.
Within the next few weeks your children will begin learning their dances for the Festival. Thanks to so many of you who signed up to help with that event at Back to
School Night. We will be in touch as this event draws closer to let you know how
you can help. This year the Dance Festival will be held on Thursday, October 24th
so mark your calendars!
My committee and I look forward to working with you all this year. If you have any
questions about the Spanish Immersion program, I can be reached at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Nicole Paulson

Introducing our New Assistant Principal!
Hi, my name is Ryan Wells and I am the new TSA at Orchard Elementary. I
feel excited and privileged to be able to work with the teachers and students
here at Orchard. Parents and community have already impressed me with
their involvement and I know that is one reason Orchard is such a great
school!
I grew up in the Air Force, but have lived in Pleasant Grove for the last 10 years with my
family. I have been a teacher for the past eight years and have taught third, fourth, and fifth
grades. I am passionate about the teaching profession and look forward to making this a
fabulous year here at Orchard Elementary!

This year we are starting an exciting new tradition at
Orchard. Each faculty member has been asked to fill
out a “TEACHER FAVORITES” sheet. This collection
will be stored in a binder in the office for everyone
to look at. If you need a gift idea or a way
to brighten a faculty member’s day, this is
your answer. We appreciate all your support. Here’s to a FANTASTIC year!!!
