is brilliant.
With this new system, state-of-the-art
pay machines replace existing parking
meters in Calgary’s downtown and
central city business districts.
It’s been almost a year
since we launched the
ParkPlus System™
in downtown Calgary
and we want to thank
Calgarians for embracing
this revolutionary
approach to parking. >>
The ParkPlus System places Calgary
ahead of all other cities in the world
in terms of its citizens’ ability to grasp
and employ this new technology.
People continue to use the system in
record numbers and to sign up for cell
phone accounts to take advantage
of the convenience and additional
features offered to cell phone account
customers.
This past year our information team
has taken the ParkPlus message to city
streets, malls and Plus 15s. To date
we’ve held nine information sessions
to educate Calgarians about the new
pay machines and cell phone account
system. As a result of these sessions
and our advertising initiatives, we’ve
heard a lot of positive comments from
ParkPlus users and we have continued
to make improvements to our system
based on these suggestions.

Financial highlights 2007
Each year the Calgary Parking Authority
contributes a portion of its net revenue
to the City of Calgary. This net revenue
is generated through parking facilities
and the enforcement of parking bylaws.
Our operations are not funded by
municipal tax dollars. At the direction of
the City Council, the Municipal Impound
Lot operates on a break-even basis, at
no cost to taxpayers.
The charts beside show the revenue and
expenditure, including capital costs, of

Boldly going where
everyone has gone before.
NOW PAY PARKING TICKETS ONLINE.
The Calgary Parking Authority (CPA)
has launched a new service that allows
people to pay their parking tickets on
the Internet.
Customers simply go to
www.calgaryparking.com and follow
the Pay Tickets Online link or go to
www.parkplus.ca and click on the Pay
Tickets Online tab. Once they provide
their parking ticket number and license
plate information, they will be guided
through a simple, step-by-step process.
The service also allows them to look up
all outstanding tickets and pay them at
the same time.
And now it is even easier to make early
payment and qualify for a fine reduction
by paying online. The cost for the
service is $3.00 per ticket and major
credit cards are accepted.
The Pay Ticket Online program is part
of the Calgary Parking Authority’s plan
to provide an increasing number of its
services online.

“The new ParkPlus System brings Calgary
into the 21st century. Great cities around
the world have moved to similar systems
because it is an efficient use of street
space and a great convenience to parkers.
This enhanced parking system improves
access to downtown by opening up
more parking spaces and is a step to
addressing what downtown guests
expect. Parking is important to a vibrant
downtown and we are delighted by the
steps taken by the CPA.”
G
eorgi-Anna Sizeland, Chair Calgary
Downtown Association – May, 2008
Your safety is our priority
As part of its commitment to improving
the security of patrons and staff, the
Calgary Parking Authority recently
hired experienced security
professionals. We are now
pleased to offer 24/7 security
coverage in our surface lots
and parkades.
In addition to patrolling
in specially marked security
vehicles, the CPA will be
instituting bike patrols in all
its facilities later this year.
Officers will work in pairs to
provide enhanced response times
during congested periods in the
downtown core.
Pay Less Starting Earlier
Enter our parkades or surface lots after
4 pm on weekdays and receive the
evening rate two hours earlier. Before
the Even Earlier program began, evening
rates typically began at 6 pm, but now
customers can take advantage of the
discounted evening rate Even Earlier.
The early evening rates will be in
effect weekdays in our parkades and
surface lots in the downtown core and
in Kensington.
Because evening rates are much
lower than daytime rates, we hope to
encourage people to come downtown
for theatre and cultural events and to
come to visit the many restaurants and
nightclubs in the city’s core. See you
anytime after 4 pm, Monday to Friday
and pay less.
Our Customers
Are Great!
Each year we say thank you to our customers by providing
drinks and snacks at a variety of locations throughout the
downtown core. Calgary Parking Authority customers are loyal
and supportive, and this is one of the ways we recognize them.
Thank you for your patronage.

Residential Parking Permits
What are residential parking permits?
Residential Parking Permits help
communities manage the number of
non-resident vehicles in their area by
restricting parking to residents with
parking permits. For more information
about the Residential Parking Permit
Program and how to establish a
Residential Parking Zone, please visit
the City of Calgary website at
www.calgary.ca
If I have a permit, where can I park?
As long as you comply with traffic
bylaws, you may park anywhere in the
restricted area or zone for which you
have a permit. Visitors using permits
must park no further than one block
from the residence they are visiting.
How can I renew my permit?
Fashionably
Early.
ENTER AFTER 4 PM
FOR EVENING RATES
Residents must provide proof that they
live within the zoned area and may apply
for the permits by mail, fax (537-7001) or
in person at Calgary Parking Authority’s
offices at 620 – 9 Avenue SW.
Residents are responsible for renewing
their permits. Permits must be renewed
yearly and may be renewed up to two
months before the expiry date.
The Calgary Parking Authority sends
out reminders about 45 days before
permits expire.
Can other people use my permit?
No. Parking permits are issued
to license plates registered to a
specific address. They are not
transferable and cannot be used
in other restricted parking zones.
Can I take my permit with me
when I move?
No, your Residential Parking
Permit becomes invalid if you
move. You must change your
vehicle registration at a registry office
and re-apply for your permit if you move
within the same zone or if you move to
another zone.
I have visitors coming to my home.
What can I do?
Each single family, semi-detached,
triplex, fourplex or rowhouse unit can
apply yearly for two visitor permits. Lost
or stolen visitor permits will not
be replaced.
Residents who live in a building
containing five suites or more in
a restricted area may apply for a
temporary visitor permit for an out-oftown guest. Prior to issuing the permit,
i
we require proof of your address
and proof that your visitor is from out

to remain parked. Note: Parking is
limited to the maximum time, as
indicated on the traffic signs in the
zone you parked.
Simply follow the easy payment

Save Big!
Now small vehicles can save 25 per cent on short-stay, on-street parking in
Calgary. With the new PARKsmall discount, vehicles that are 3.8 meters or
less in length are eligible for a discount in on-street ParkPlus parking zones.
Cell phone account holders who drive vehicles such as motorcycles,
scooters and the following cars qualify for the discount: Smart Car, Geo
Metro, Mini Cooper, Echo, Swift and Insight.
It’s another plus to the ParkPlus System and is available when you sign up
for a ParkPlus cell phone account. Visit parkplus.ca for more information or to
sign up.
Enforcement Innovation
The Calgary Parking Authority uses a digital photo enforcement system to
collect more detailed information about the time and location of vehicles in
violation of time-limited parking zones.
The new enforcement system works in conjunction with the ParkPlus System
to discourage people from parking all day in areas designed for hourly
parking or time-limited parking.
This automated system will increase the CPA’s ability to respond to the
concerns of business owners and residents who live in time-restricted
areas, such as residential parking permit zones, and allow the CPA to more
effectively monitor hourly parking.

Parking at
the Curbside
“I’m writing to say that your
policy of giving first-time
offenders in your ParkPlus
System a break is a good idea.
A couple of weeks ago, when
dropping off a pair of shoes
at Alpine Shoe Repair in
Kensington, I saw an empty
parking space, grabbed it, ran
into the shoe repair shop, ran
out again and came home. I
was somewhat shocked two
weeks later, to receive in the
mail what looked like a parking
ticket. I had not been aware
of the new parking system in
that neighborhood, so had no
idea that I had violated it. Since
then, I have read your wellwritten brochure, A Revolution
in Parking for Calgary, and
educated myself on the matter.
Your policy of giving warnings
to first offenders, and including
your brochure to let them know
what it’s all about, is certain to
improve public attitude toward
the system.
That’s good thinking. Well
done.

The staff can only release the vehicle to

third Saturday of the month and check
out our unreserved auction.
About 125 vehicles left unclaimed at
the Impound Lot are auctioned each
month and while there’s no guarantee as
to their quality, you might just find that
special bargain.
All automobiles are unlocked and open
to viewing beginning at 10 a.m. on
auction day. They cannot be started

under the hood. Many vehicles have no
keys; however, a locksmith is available
on site.

RV Parking Pointers
When and where is it legal to park my RV?
You may park your RV on the street or in the alley adjacent to your property
for up to 36 hours as you pack for a holiday trip.
You must then be away for at least 48 hours before parking again.
You may park on your front driveway for up to 24 hours as you clean your
vehicle or prepare for a trip.
City streets and alleys are not large enough to allow for long-term parking
of large vehicles. Because of their size, parked RVs might block signs,
pedestrians and other vehicles from another driver’s view. Please be careful
when parking your RV. Consider storing your vehicle for long periods of time
in either an RV storage park or, if you have the space, your back yard.
Note: Recreational trailers, utility trailers, semi-trailers and mobile equipment
must be attached to a towing vehicle if left on a city street. Liability and
collision insurance will normally apply only while the trailer is attached—check
with your insurance agent.
Service improvements
We are working to serve you better by moving many of our counter
services to an enhanced website. Later this year and in 2009, we will
be offering the ability to obtain residential parking permits online, added
services for businesses as well as other e-services. Watch our website
for these enhancements coming soon.
