The Newsletter of the Dominican Development Group
In his address to the DR Diocesan Convention in February and
in his remarks to the Dominican Development Group Board,
Bishop Holguín reflected on 2011 and looked forward to 2012.
His comments, summarized below, mirror the dynamic and
spiritually alive nature of the Dominican
Episcopal Church. They are “outward and
visible” signs of “inward and spiritual” realities,
the purpose of the Church being mission, the
proclamation of the evangel.

Obispo Holguín hizo comentario sobre el 2011 y sobre lo que él
anticipaba para el 2012. Un resumen de sus comentarios está
contenido en este artículo y muestran el dinamismo

In his convention address Bishop Holguín notes that it is
normal in the DR that new missions are formed every year.
However, never before has he had the privilege in one year
of visiting nine new missions during his pastoral visits
– that is until 2011. These are:

New Assignments and New Clergy: South-to-South
missionary from Cuba Rev. Emilio Martín Fumero,
began a two-year term of service jointly sponsored by
Mission Personnel of TEC and by the Diocese of the
Dominican Republic. He is assigned to San Pedro & San
Pablo in La Barquita and to San Felipe in Sábana Perdida.
The Rev. Canon Servio Moscoso retired from the
States and now jointly serves with the Very Rev. Ashton

Brooks at Epiphany Cathedral. The Rev. Daniel Robles
also returned from the States and now serves as assistant
to Fr. Vicente Pena in San Juan Bautista and related
missions. Of note, it was Fr. Robles who founded San Juan
Bautista in 1972.

In the East Archdeanery the Rev. Napoleón Brito has
been assigned to Centro Buen Pastor school and church
in San Pedro de Macorís thus relieving the load on Rev.
Álvaro Yepes who still is in charge of San Esteban Church
& school as well as the Bishop Kellogg Center. This division
is timely for the Sisters of Transfiguration, who founded
Centro Buen Pastor in the late 1980’s, for reasons of age
and health, plan to retire and return to the United States
in two years.

Bishop Holguín has assigned recent seminary graduate
from El Salvador, the Rev. Roberto Castro, to San
Bartolomé in San Cristóbal and San Miguel in Dona Ana.
This lightens the loads of the Rev. Milquella Mendoza and
the Rev. Ramón Gil. Rev. Milquella remains in charge of the

DDG transferred some $760,000 in support of the
Dominican Episcopal Church for scholarships, the

and for your great generosity” in support of this “great
missionary work we are carrying on in the Dominican

worked through a thorough revision of its Bylaws.

for the 2011-12 school year.The way this
works is that the school permits an
unfunded “student” to remain in school
with the hope that the scholarship will
come through. If you can see your way to
make a contribution of $300 for a full
scholarship, or even a partial one, please
send it to the Dominican Development
Group at the address below. One
hundred percent of your contribution
goes directly for its designated purpose.

Correction. In the January edition of Compañeros
Dominicanos we reported that representatives of the
SWFL Daughters of the King attended the Fifth Annual
DOK meeting at San José, Boca Chica. It was actually
representatives of the Southeast Florida who attended that
meeting.
