THIS YEAR’S ONE BOOK TWO VILLAGES SELECTION
A narrative as rife with laughs as it is with tears
“This is a beautiful book, deeply felt, both scorchingly honest about what it feels like to love and care for a mother
who has never loved you back, at least never the way you had wanted, and achingly wistful about a gentle father who
could never break free of his domineering wife and ride to his daughter’s rescue.”

MEET AUTHOR ROZ CHAST IN WINNETKA AND NORTHFIELD
SEPTEMBER 15 AND 16!
Roz Chast, a New Yorker cartoonist since 1978, is the author of the graphic memoir Can’t We
Talk About Something More Pleasant?, this year’s One Book Two Villages selection. In this
work, Chast addresses the realities of what it is to get old in America today–and what it is to
have aging parents today–with tenderness and candor, and a good dose of her characteristic
wit.
The book is a New York Times Best Book of the Year, National Book Award Finalist, winner of
the Kirkus Prize, and a winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for the best books of
2014.
Chast will be the guest and featured speaker at two One Book Two Villages events this fall.
Mark your calendar for Thursday, September 15 for the cocktail party reception and book
talk at the Winnetka Community House. Friday, September 16 we will host a luncheon and
book discussion at The Happ Inn in Northfield. These events are brought to our community
with the generous help of the Friends of the Library.
Watch the Library website for details on tickets for the dinner and luncheon events which
will go on sale June 15. To receive the latest news on the author appearances and all library
events, subscribe to our eNewsletter by texting WINNLIB (all caps) to 22828.
