RECENT GAMES:
GAME #52 (February 22) – Sacramento 114, Atlanta 104 (ARCO Arena, Sacramento, CA)
The Hawks hung tough most of the night, but could never quite overcome an early double-digit deficit, in falling to
the Kings, 114-104, on Tuesday in Sacramento … After an early first part of the first quarter, the Hawks saw the
Kings finish the period with an 18-4 run to pull ahead by 14 (33-19) … The lead stayed in double figures most of the
second quarter, but by half the Hawks did trim the deficit to 10 (57-47) … In the third, the Hawks made a move,
cutting the lead down to four late (80-76) before the Kings extended it back to 7 (86-79) heading into the fourth …
After the lead ballooned back to 15, the Hawks fought back to get within five (101-96) with just 5:21 remaining, but
Sacramento finished the game strongly, winning by 10 … Al Harrington finished with 25 to pace the Hawks, while
Antoine Walker added 23 … Josh Smith scored a career-best 19 points to go with 10 rebounds, and Tyronn Lue
chipped in with 13 … Chris Webber paced six Kings in double figures with 30 points … Mike Bibby followed with 23,

A rough third quarter cost the Hawks, as Cleveland broke open a close contest and coasted to the 111-89 win at
Gund Arena on Wednesday in Atlanta’s final contest before the All-Star break … After a seesaw first period,
Cleveland took a six-point lead (30-24) as Zyrdunas Ilgauskas scored 9 … The lead was extended to 13 in the
second (39-26) but Atlanta climbed back in and was down just five (55-50) at the midway point … Midway through
the third, with the Hawks down just seven, the Cavs gradually built the lead to 18 … Another lengthy run early in the
fourth put the game away … Antoine Walker (21 points) led six Atlanta double-figure scorers, which included Josh

games) … Blazers head coach Maurice Cheeks suited up for Atlanta in 1991-92 (56 contests) … Tony Delk and

Trade Winds Blowing
On February 24, the Hawks acquired a 2005 or future first-round draft pick along with Gary Payton, Tom
Gugliotta and Michael Stewart from the Boston Celtics in exchange for forward Antoine Walker … "This trade
will give us the opportunity to continue to develop our nucleus of young players for the remainder of the year,"
said Hawks Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight. "We're thrilled to be able to make a deal
which brings another first round draft choice, while still allowing us salary flexibility this summer. We thank
Antoine (Walker) for his contributions to the organization both on and off the court, and wish him the very
best." … The first-round draft pick the Hawks will receive is the lesser of the Celtics’ own 2005 first-round pick
and the pick they obtained from the Lakers on August 13, 2004 as part of the Payton deal. Regardless of
when the Hawks receive the pick, it is lottery protected.
J. Smith Takes All-Star Weekend by Storm
Hawks rookie Josh Smith recorded perfect 50’s on his final three dunks en route to a victory in the 2005 Sprite
Rising Stars Slam Dunk title on NBA All-Star Saturday (Feb. 19) in Denver … The high-riser became the third Hawk
in club history to win the championship, joining Dominique Wilkins (1985, 1990) and Spud Webb (1986) … The
Hawks are the only franchise with three different winners since the contest’s NBA inception in 1984 … After getting
the Pepsi Center crowd’s attention with a free-throw line jam for his opening act, Smith leapfrogged a seated
Kenyon Martin and thundered home an alley-oop that brought them to their feet … On Smith’s first dunk of the final
round, he donned a throwback Wilkins jersey and paid tribute to the soaring windmill jam that No. 21 made famous
… Smith closed out with a 360-degree reverse spin jam to clinch the trophy, downing Suns star Amare Stoudemire
in the final round … The 19-year-old Smith becomes the second-youngest player to ever take home the dunk title,
to Kobe Bryant (18), who took the honors in 1997 in Cleveland … The day before, Smith had the opportunity to
exhibit his all-around game, as he was a member of the rookie squad that fell to the sophomores, 133-106, in the
got milk? Rookie Challenge … He finished the contest with 12 points (4-8 FGs, 4-4 FTs), 6 rebounds, 2 assists and
1 block in 24 minutes of action.
‘Nique Named a Finalist for Hall of Fame
Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins highlights a list of 16 individuals named as Finalists for election into the Naismith
Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2005 … The ninth-leading scorer in league history and a nine-time NBA
All-Star, “The Human Highlight Film” also won two NBA Slam Dunk championships during his outstanding playing
career … Wilkins is currently the Hawks’ Vice President of Basketball … The Class of 2005 will be announced on
Monday, April 4 at a news conference in Saint Louis, MO prior to the NCAA Men’s Championship game … A
Finalist needs 18 of 24 votes from the Honors Committee for election into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of
Fame.
Misc. Notes
When Al Harrington dishes out 5 or more assists in a game, the Hawks are 6-2 … The Hawks are 6-4 when
shooting 50% or better from the field … Atlanta is 5-5 when scoring 100-plus points, and has won four of the last
five when topping the century mark.
Trends
Josh Childress has recorded five double-doubles in his last seven games, averaging 15.3 ppg and 9.3 rpg (.571
FG%, .850 FT%) during the stretch … Boris Diaw has averaged 22.8 mpg (including a season-best 36 mins v/Ind
on 2/5) over his last 12 contests (5.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.7 apg), after not playing (coach’s decision) in six of the seven
previous games … Since missing six games with a strained left Achilles, Tyronn Lue is averaging 12.5 ppg and 6.5
apg (.500 FG%, .667 3FG%) in his last two contests.
Josh’s Block Party
Hawks rookie Josh Smith blocked an NBA season-high 10 shots in a 90-68 loss at Dallas on 12/18, becoming the
youngest player in NBA history (19 years, 13 days old) to reject 10 or more in a game … Also, Smith did not
commit a personal foul, becoming the third player in history to total double figures in blocked shots, and not be
whistled … The others were Keon Clark (12 blocks, 3/23/01) and Calvin Booth (10 blocks, 1/13/04) … Smith is
averaging a team-leading 1.84 rejections per game on the season, leading all rookies and ranking 11th in the NBA.
Josh’s Jam Fest
Equally impressive to the blocked shots, the high-flying 6-9 rookie has racked up several dunks worthy of a
highlight reel … In fact, Smith has compiled 71 high-percentage rim rockers so far this season (out of his 140 total
field goals made on the year) … As a team, the Hawks have crammed in 200 on the season, making Smith
responsible for 35.5% of the team’s slams … He had 7 of the club’s 39 in November, 32 of the team’s 55 in
December, in January blasted 25 of the team’s 71, while the club has 35 in February (Smith has 7 in the month,
having played in only five of 10 games in the month while spending time on the injured list).
Solid in the Paint
Atlanta has mastered their opponents many nights this season when it comes to points in the paint … On the year,
the Hawks hold an average advantage of 45.1 (2390) – 41.5 (2198) in that stat, having outscored or tied their
opponent in 30-of-53 games in that category.

COACH'S BIO:
Coach's Name: MIKE WOODSON (Indiana ’80)
Overall NBA Coaching Record:
10-43 (first year)
Record with Atlanta: 10-43 (first year)
The Atlanta Hawks named Mike Woodson as the team’s new head coach on July 8, 2004. Woodson, who
becomes Atlanta’s tenth head coach since the franchise moved to the Atlanta area in 1968, spent this past
season as an assistant on the staff of the World Champion Detroit Pistons.
The top assistant on Larry Brown’s Pistons staff, the 46-year-old Woodson has 19 years of NBA experience as a
player and coach, and served three-of-the-last nine seasons as an assistant under Brown in both Philadelphia
(2001-03) and Detroit. He also worked as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers (1999-01) and the
Milwaukee Bucks (1996-99).
One of the chief architects behind the Pistons’ suffocating defensive effort during the 2003-04 regular season and
the playoffs, Detroit held the opposition to 84.3 points per game this past year, which equaled the league’s best
total defensively (along with San Antonio).
In addition, the Pistons’ point differential of +5.84 was the second-best in the NBA and they limited opponents to
41.4 field goal shooting, the league’s third-best performance. During their 23 postseason games, Detroit
intensified their efforts defensively, holding teams to 80.7 ppg and 39.2 FG shooting, and in the five-game Finals
series against Los Angeles, the Pistons kept the Lakers more than 16 points under their regular season average
and hounded them into shooting 41 percent from the floor.
The 11-year veteran and 6-5 guard played for seven teams in the NBA after he was selected in the first round of
the 1980 Draft by the New York Knicks with the 12th overall pick. In 786 career games, Woodson averaged 14.0
points (10,981 career points), 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 25.5 minutes of action, enjoying his best campaign
in 1982-83 when he played for the then-Kansas City Kings and posted 18.2 points per game. Woodson and
Knight were teammates the following year and helped the Kings to a third-place finish in the Midwest Division
(38-44) and a first round playoff berth against the LA Lakers.
In addition to the Knicks and Kings (both in Kansas City and Sacramento), Woodson also played with New
Jersey, the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston and Cleveland, before retiring from the game in 1991. His teams
advanced to the playoffs five times, where he averaged 12.2 ppg, 2.6 apg and 2.3 rpg.
Drafted out of Indiana University, Woodson, in his junior season, helped lead the Hoosiers to the 1979 National
Invitation Tournament (NIT) championship with a 53-52 victory over conference foe Purdue and was named to
the All-Tourney team.
During the summer of that year, he played for Bob Knight and captained the United States team that participated
in the Pan Am Games, joining teammates Isiah Thomas and Ray Tolbert in winning the gold medal.
A two-time All-American (1979 and 1980) and four-year letterman, Woodson suffered a herniated disk in his back
after five games (and a No.1 ranking) into his senior campaign and had to undergo surgery. Upon losing
Woodson, Indiana went 7-5 in the Big Ten, but once he returned, IU finished the conference season at 6-0 and
captured the Big Ten title. Despite the limited action, Woodson took home the league’s 1980 MVP award.
The fifth-leading scorer in IU history with 2,061 points, Woodson averaged 19.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in 104
games with the Hoosiers. He graduated with a degree in physical education.
