Typically by this time both the speck and red patterns are in full swing. You can target either species about anywhere along LA’s coastline. Primarily speaking, Breton Sound, Black Bay, Bay Eloi will be among the areas to target. Live shrimp under a cork around the outer islands, shallow water rigs and reefs will be the most productive. The deeper water areas like the Wreck, Black Tanks, the Dope Boat, Central Rig Facility, Five Wells, the Compressor and BLK 32 will be holding numbers of larger trout, typically caught on the bottom on Carolina rigs with live shrimp or live croakers. Be sure to adjust your weights accordingly. The general rule of thumb is to use the lightest weight possible to get to the bottom. Capt. Kerry Audibert OUGHT TO BE FISHING CHARTERS, LLC. www.CaptKerry.net and ZZZ2XJKW7R%H)LVKLQJFRP J GRAND ISLE une promises to be awesome. The wind has settled down from a blustery May and the trout are plentiful. Platforms in Barateria Bay and oyster reefs are full of school trout, while beaches from Four Bayous to East Timbalier will be full of larger spawning size trout. They can be taken on croakers, live shrimp and a host of artificial lures. Top water action in early morning light is the top draw for many anglers. Redfish will begin to gang up along the beaches and bull reds are fairly numerous in the passes. Offshore action out of Grand Isle should be good this year with a focus on mangrove snappers. Come on down to the coast this June, fishing is great! Capt. Danny Wray 225-721-8459 www.calmwatercharters.net [email protected] 504-259-5304 PUT YOUR PASSION ON YOUR PLATE! I find that early in May we can catch good numbers of Specks with plastics, but by the end of May live bait works best for Specks. June Speck fishing is most successful with live bait. Shrimp, Croakers, Pogies or Mullet. So far this season has been a little different than years past. In years pass Lake Pontchartrain has produced good numbers of above average size Specks for the first few weeks of June then the gas wells in Lake Borgne produces better. I think the bridges in Lake Pontchartrain will produce most of June BUT if the bite dies off in Lake Pontchartrain make the move to some of the gas wells in Lake Borgne to finish of a great day of catching South Louisiana Specks. The deep passes in the area will also hold good numbers of trout during the slower portion of the tide. Unknown Pass bridge, L&N bridge, Millers & Blind Rigolets are all close to the marinas and offer protection from strong winds. The passes, bridges and gas wells are best fished with live bait on the bottom. Speckled Trout are not the only type of fish you will Capt. Mike Gallo Angling Adventures of Louisiana, LLC www.AAofLA.com catch. There are Black Drum, Sheepshead, Flounder, Croakers, Redfish and they are all GREAT on the table. I use a drop shot rig but the Carolina rig is very successful as well. Don't forget Dudley's reefs in Lake Pontchartrain these reef are best fished with a slip cork rig & live bait. When my clients want Redfish I point the Blue Wave to the Biloxi Marsh. My clients and I have been catching Redfish with the Golden Eye Spinner. I really like this short arm spinner and I know the REDFISH in the Biloxi Marsh like it also. We have also caught Redfish on Jerk Baits, Spoons and Shrimp under corks. Look for areas of skinny water to catch Redfish. I have been concentrating on areas with clear water, S,A,V and bait fish. June fishing is HOT and so is the weather. Drink plenty of water. Hope all your ANGLING ADVENTURES are successful ! ! ! The rip lines are filling up with dolphin and weehoo and the tuna are jumping. Last year the fish stayed close and it was rare that I had to go further than 20 miles to catch tuna but some years the floaters is where it's all happening. We will just have to wait and see what this year brings but so far short runs have produced. If you want to really have some fun on the rip grab some live bait and a spinning rod and cruise the rip for bulls. A big bull dolphin can't turn down a little live bait of any kind. I don't like to kill a bunch of chickens so when I fish for dolphin I like to set two large hard tails behind the boat and have someone on the bow with a small live bait on a spinning rod. There are few things as fun as seeing a 30lb bull eat your live bait and start giving a gymnastics demonstration. Be sure to have a second rod ready though because the big boys are rarely alone. Very often the big hard tails get eaten first and then I pitch the spinning rod bait to the bulls that follow the first fish in. Also, I use 100lb seaguar flouro and a 9/0 Mustad 39950 circle for NEW ORLEANS 7 “J VENICE TO BURAS une Is Busting Out All Over” will hold true in Venice this year. The high River of May will be on a steady fall, the birds will be diving and the trout will be biting. Downriver, the trout will be in their summer pattern. They will be holding in the outer bays hungry for shrimp. I’ll be throwing a plastic shrimp or a live one under a cork. I’ll be making plenty of noise. This noise attracts the trout until he finds your bait. Then I’ll move east out into Breton Sound. The rigs and outer islands will be my hunting grounds. Around the rigs I like to swim one of the new swim baits in a green or glow color. Then I’ll Carolina rig a live shrimp under and around the legs of the rig. If I can get live baby crockers, I’m in heaven. On the islands its cork time for Capt. Peace Marvel me. Live shrimp under a cork is hard to beat this month. Make sure you watch for (504) 858-8862 diving birds. They will tell you where the PeaceKeeper Charters shrimp are. The shrimp will tell you where Peacekeepercharters.com the trout are. Reds will be along the shoreline. Market the dolphin. They are not really leader shy and the larger circle helps you survive all bait on a kale hook or a ¼ oz. jig head will the jumps and flips without pulling hooks. produce. I usually hang this offering under a cork. If this doesn’t work, try a spinner or I'll see ya out there! spoon. Behind Buras on the west side, the trout COASTAL ANGLER MAGAZINE Capt. Owen Langridge (225) 978-1136 [email protected] www.bigocharters.com will be on the beaches and under the birds. The cork offering that worked east will work west. The only thing that will beat a pink plastic shrimp is the real thing. I’ll start out the morning on the beaches, fishing the first trough in the breakers. If it’s too rough, I’ll move inside over the oysters. Trout will always be over the oysters. While fishing the oysters keep an eye out for the birds. When they start diving, move upwind of them and drift silently into them. The trout will be there and will hit almost anything. Yes, June is where it’s at! Come on down and “pass-a-good-time”! JUNE 2013 State of Louisiana Makes Great Strides for Recreational Anglers May 24, 2013 – Yesterday, NOAA officials announced a change to Louisiana’s federal red snapper recreational fishing season, which was originally set to run a mere nine days, will now begin on June 1 and remain open through June 24, with a bag and possession limit of 2 fish per person at a 16-inch minimum total length. NOAA administrators came to the decision to extend Louisiana’s federal red snapper season based in large part on research conducted by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries biologists that proved Louisiana was landing less fish than previously accounted for by NOAA. “The decision by our federal counterparts to extend the Louisiana federal red snapper season was no doubt based on a combination of good, sound science provided by our biologists and the pressure we have continued to put on them,” said LDWF Secretary Robert Barham. “These actions only strengthen our case for regional management. We will continue to show accountability and that we have the best intentions for the resource and our recreational anglers.” JUNE 2013 “I am extremely proud of the team of biologists I work with. Because of their dedication to the resource and our local fishermen, NOAA is now working with us, instead of against us,” said LDWF Assistant Secretary Randy Pausina. “We still have significant steps to take toward our proposed state-by-state management method.” Next week LDWF Secretary Robert Barham will officially modify Louisiana’s red snapper season to mirror the federal season. There will also be discussion of the state snapper season at the next Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission meeting set for Thursday, June 6. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is charged with managing and protecting Louisiana’s abundant resources.
