Sean Callery Press Kit Prepared By: SEAN CALLERY composer With a total of 13 Emmy® nominations and three wins under his belt, composer Sean Callery is not only set to score Fox’s “24: Live Another Day,” a reboot of the network’s popular franchise, but is back to composing music for the third season of Showtime’s award-winning drama “Homeland,” the second season of CBS’ hit Sherlock Holmes-inspired drama series “Elementary,” and the ninth season of “Bones,” Fox’s longest-running procedural drama. Known for composing the suspense-driven scores on FOX’s hit series “24,” Callery earned nine Emmy® nominations throughout the course of the show, which ran for eight seasons and included the 2008 TV movie “24: Redemption.” Of those nods, he won for Outstanding Music Composition three times. In 2013, Callery was nominated for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music for “Elementary,” and was recognized in the same category for “Homeland” in 2012. In 2011, Callery scored another Emmy® nod for “The Kennedys,” an eight-part mini-series that starred Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes, and premiered worldwide on the Reelz Channel. Meanwhile, Callery received the ASCAP Top Series honors for his work on “24,” and has also been recognized with ASCAP honors for his work on the CBS drama “Medium,” and for FOX’s “Bones.” On the film side, Callery is composing music for Anchor Bay Films’ “Small Time,” written and directed by Emmy-Award winning “24” executive producer Joel Surnow. The project – slated for an April 2014 release and is loosely based on Surnow’s life experience – stars Christopher Meloni (“Man of Steel” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”), Bridget Moynahan (“I Robot” and “Blue Bloods”) and Dean Norris (“Breaking Bad” and “Under the Dome”). Born and raised in Rhode Island, Callery began studying classical piano at an early age. During his teenage years, he educated himself in various musical styles and began playing jazz piano on weekends in local nightclubs. He studied composition and earned a degree in piano performance in 1987 from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. After a brief stint as a pianist with the All American College Orchestra at Disney World's Epcot Center, he moved to Los Angeles in 1987, where he began working as a studio musician and part-time assistant for several top composers including: Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, Francis Ford Coppola, Herbie Hancock and Mark Snow. Snow mentored Callery in the earliest days of his career, and the two have remained close friends ever since. In 1993, Callery was a sound editor on UPN’s “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” which was nominated for an Emmy® for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Sound Editing for a Series. Three years later, Callery met Surnow and was hired to compose the score for the USA network series, “La Femme Nikita.” Callery and Surnow began their second collaboration on “24” in 2001. Callery’s other TV projects include: FOX’s “The Finder,” Hulu’s 10-part series “The Confession,” CBS’ “Shark,” NBC’s “Treasure Hunters,” and many others. Callery has also composed music for the 2011 Tibetan film documentary, “Crazy Wisdom: The Life and Times of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.” Callery has conducted his own works, most recently with the Tenerife Film Orchestra and Choir at the Fimucite International Film Music festival on the Canary Islands, Spain. He also has three soundtrack albums featuring music from the "24" series and is working on soundtracks for both "The Kennedys" and for "Homeland." In May 2012, Callery participated in the NYU/ASCAP Foundation Film Scoring Workshop in Memory of Buddy Baker, a composer who scored many of Walt Disney’s films. Callery was a featured composer who spearheaded the workshop dedicated to Hollywood film scoring. Sean resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Debbie.
