We are the champions!
Indoor Soccer Comp 2011
by Ingar Kirkland
Like the blistering winds that blow across the Scottish headlands, Kangan teams stormed
into the grand final resulting in an epic encounter of biblical proportions.Teams can from
afar– Kangan Institute had entered 4 teams - for the annual TREV Indoor Soccer tournament held at Maribyrnong Action Indoor Sports Centre. The early round robin matches,
full of high spirited encounters, saw all of our four teams progress to the semi-finals,
with the eventual Grand Final being fought out by two teams – DTF & Multicultural Stars
- from our Sport, Recreation and Natural Therapies Department. The grand final was a
replay of an earlier seesawing encounter between the two teams which resulted in DTF
winning 8 to 7.
If the earlier encounter between the two teams was nail bitting, the grand final was even
more awesome. Both teams played with adrenalin pumping through their veins, searching for the upper hand as they went goal for goal, and thrilling the large crowd with their
soccer skills. No sooner had one team scored a goal, the other team fired back, and as
the final siren was blown both teams had scored 6 goals each. Extra time was called and
both teams lifted to greater heights, trading blow for blow - but the deadlock could not
be broken with both teams scoring 2 goals.
With near exhaustion and nerves on edge, team members faced a penalty shoot out.
The players lined up for a best of five shots each to determine the winner, but even this
scenario resulted in a remarkable 4 all draw, and so the teams entered a golden goal
penalty shoot out. Once again the teams traded blow for blow….one all…two all and
suddenly it was all over, Multicultural Stars had prevailed, and they were the 2011 TREV
Indoor Soccer Champions. The spectators erupted giving a resounding applause to both
teams – what a match – what a tournament – well done to all.

A friend is a person,
Who is loving and kind,
Who will always be honest,
And will never tell lies,
A friend will help you,
Within good times and bad,
In any situation,
Things will never be sad,
A friend will stay with you,
If you need to talk,
Just go outside,
And take a long walk,
A friend is a person,
Who will listen to you,
You can tell them everything,
They can be honest with you too,
A friend is a person,
Who would never get upset,
If you both liked a person,
You won’t have to fret,
A friend would never cry,
If you told them how you felt,
They would never put you down,
Wouldn’t let your heart melt,
A friend is a person,
Who will always be a friend,
In times when you get sick,
They’ll have flowers to send,
God makes these friends,
Just for you,
In good times and bad,
You’re a friend to them too.
