WORLD
IMPLANT EXPO
The Greater New York Dental Meeting begins its Annual World Implant Congress
to facilitate the education of
dental professionals in all
aspects of implantology. In
addition, it will expand its
exhibit floor to include the
sale of implants, associated
materials and technology
solutions. This new addition
will supplement the expansion of the exhibit floor that
is already expanded due to
the dental laboratory extravaganza.
The GNYDM will use its
expertise in educational
programming to include
sponsored implant programs
tincluding seminars, handson-workshops, “Live” patient demonstrations and
technology pavilions to
increase the market for implant solutions through multimedia event programming.

relief, new CDT codes, and declining trends
in Association membership were discussed.
The House of Delegates elected Dr. Carol
Summerhays of San Diego as the Association’s next President-Elect. Dr. Summerhays
is immediate past trustee of the ADA’s 13th
District (California). A 1978 graduate of the

The ADA’s finances are in good stead. The
House of Delegates approved a surplus
budget for 2015 with no dues increase. The
financial reserves of the Association remain
at a very healthy level due to a recent increase in non-dues revenue.
SDDS New Resident Members
It is our pleasure every year to welcome the graduate students of our various residency programs as
new members of organized dentistry’s tripartite. We welcome them with open arms, encourage them
to actively participate and invite them to continue their membership in the future.

“The All Day Attachment Dentistry Ultimate Course”
Title:
MCEU - 3 HOURS
“Advanced Pediatric Dental Treatment”
Clinician:
George E. Bambara, M.S., D.M.D., F.A.C.D., F.I.C.D.
Faculty, Rutgers School of Dental Medicine
Clinician:
John A. Galli, D.D.S., F.A.A.P.
Attending, Maimonides Medical Center
Synopsis:
This course covers all aspects of attachment dentistry in detail and takes the mystery out
of treatment planning segmented fixed bridges, removable partial dentures and overdentures on natural teeth or implants. It emphasizes the rationale for using precision and semiprecision attachments in the treatment planning of fixed and removable partial dentures,
overdentures and implants. Each of these prosthetic options will be discussed in detail, especially implants, which require special treatment planning considerations. The role of the
restorative dentist will be clarified as the one who initiates treatment planning the number
of implants that will ensure success through the use of study models, wax bites, occlusal
set-ups and surgical stents. A clear understanding of what needs to be achieved must be
established first by the restorative dentist and communicated to the surgeon and the patient.
A greater understanding of these disciplines will lead to greater practice utilization and
incorporation of dental attachments in our practices. Various types of coronal and radicular
resilient and non-resilient attachments will be discussed including bar joints and bar units,
studs and magnets.
Synopsis:
This program will provide practitioners with an examination of some of the advanced
issues they might encounter when treating pediatric patients. It will begin with a discussion of the diagnosis of and treatment planning for deep carious lesions into or near the
pulp. Both anterior and posterior full coverage restoration will be shown in detail. The
general practitioner or pediatric dentist will learn to rule out pulpal pathosis and create
strong aesthetic restorations in the comprehensive care for nursing caries in children.
The presentation will then transition into pediatric oral surgery, with an illustration of
hard and soft tissue trauma and information on how to evaluate and prepare a treatment
plan. Emergency care and elective pediatric oral surgical procedures such as neonatal
tooth extractions, mesiodens, supernumerary teeth and lingual frenectomies, etc., will
be reviewed. This is a digital presentation of 39 years of clinical experience in private
practice.
A logical approach to the treatment planning of attachment dentistry will be presented,
thus ensuring long-term success and patient satisfaction. Clinical cases will be reviewed
and participants will gain knowledge, excitement and confidence, enabling them to utilize
attachments in their daily practice immediately. Participants are encouraged to bring questions which will be discussed throughout the presentation, as well as any of their past experiences with dental attachments. Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will
learn how to control loading and rotational forces, the “dos and don’ts” of attachment case
treatment planning, how to first do occlusal set-ups and create surgical stents and become
familiar with relining techniques. Attendees will also:
•
•
•
•
•
•

prosthetic dentistry

• Thanked the staff, the independent auditor, General Chairman Dr.

• Informed the Board that there were some items that were brought
to the attention of the Audit Committee by the independent auditors that should be looked at with some weight and acted upon
• Dr. Ratner familiarized the Board with an audit procedure. He
informed the Board that there are two main parts of an audit report.
The first is called their findings or the cleanliness of the report. He
was happy to report that Citrin Cooperman issued a clean order
report for the GNYDM. That is the highest level of quality for an
audit report meaning that everything that was reported was agreed
with. They had no problems with internal controls or bookkeeping
methods used by the GNYDM. The second part of the audit deals
with the actual findings that are broken down to two aspects. One
being management issues and the other being the actual financial
report. Dr. Ratner discussed the four major concerns brought up
in the management letter by the independent auditor in reference
to the GNYDM management. These four major concerns are the
subject of the resolution that is mentioned at the end of the Audit
Committee report and will require immediate action by the Board.
Dr. Ratner explained each of these issues
At this time a request was made by Dr. Edwab to table the vote
on this resolution until after his GNYDM presentation. A motion
was made and much discussion took place and many questions
were asked and answered. Dr. Ratner explained that this resolution
did go before the NYCDS Executive Committee and was voted
upon favorably. Dr. Lerner had no problem of resolving the issues
mentioned in the report and Dr. Ratner thanked him.
Motion Passed: To table the vote of the proposed resolution by the
Audit Committee until after Dr. Edwab’s presentation
Dr. Ratner concluded his report by discussing the last aspect of
the audit, the financial reports of the GNYDM. He presented the
pertinent points related to the financial statements. Dr. Ratner reiterated that it is the fiduciary responsibility of the Audit Committee
to follow up on the suggestions of the independent auditor. It is
now up to the Board to digest them and to take any appropriate
action. This concluded Dr. Ratner’s report and he thanked Dr.
Medrano-Saldaña.

Audit Committee and all involved at the GNYDM for their hard

At this point Dr. Medrano-Saldaña asked the Board to vote on the
