Welcome
On behalf of the National Hydraulics and Environment Laboratory and the Hydro Engineering
Center of Electricité de France, of the Research Group on Hydraulics in Environmental and
Civil Engineering of the Université de Liège, and of the Laboratory of Hydraulic Constructions
of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, we warmly welcome you to the second
International Workshop on Labyrinth and Piano Key Weirs in Chatou (Paris).
4 keynotes lectures and around 30 technical papers from 5 continents will be presented by
people with varied background (engineers, researchers and academics) to state and
summarize the current knowledge on Labyrinth and Piano Key weirs. Significant time will be
devoted to discussion in an environment willing to be friendly, co-operative and noncompetitive. Social and technical events including a guided tour in the EDF R&D’s Hydraulics
and Environment Laboratory, a sightseeing boat trip on the Seine River and a visit of the
Malarce dam will offer the opportunity for participants to meet and share as well as to
discover France.
We wish you a pleasant and fruitful workshop.

General information
Venue
The workshop will be held at the Research & Development center of Electricity of France, in
Chatou near Paris (France). EDF site address: 6, Quai Watier – 78401 Chatou.
Getting to Paris and local travel
Paris is easily accessible by plane, train or car. Main international airports are Paris-Charles
de Gaulle and Paris-Orly.
Local travelling is offered by RATP (www.ratp.fr). The hotels and the workshop venue can be
easily reached from downtown Paris by Metro or RER Train.
To facilitate transportation to the workshop site, transfers by bus will be organized for all
workshop participants on Wednesday, November 20th, and Thursday, November 21st,
between hotel Holiday Inn Paris Bastille (located : 11 rue de Lyon, 75012 Paris, near “Gare
de Lyon” RER station, see map under “Accommodation”) and the EDF site. Departure of
the bus at 7:00 AM, arrival on the workshop site around 8:00 AM.
Participants wishing to reach the workshop site on their own can use the public
transportation network (Metro and RER). The workshop venue can be easily reached from
downtown Paris (about 45 mn) by RER A (red line), direction “Saint-Germain-en-Laye”. Go
down to “Rueil-Malmaison” station (NB: avoid “Chatou” station, which is further access to
the site). From “Rueil-Malmaison” station, you can either take a shuttle or walk. See details
below.
