Conference Program - Institute for the Public Life of Arts and Ideas
FUTURE HUMANITIES TRANSFORMING GRADUATE STUDIES FOR THE FUTURE OF CANADA COME PLAI WITH US / VENEZ JOUER AVEC NOUS Now in our sixth year, The Institute for the Public Life of Arts and IDEAS (IPLAI) fosters dialogue among disciplines at the university and with organizations outside of it. We are a collaboration of seven faculties and the McGill Libraries. We reorient the university and engage more deeply with the world-at-large. We work on important questions ‒ public questions ‒ bringing artists and community organizations into collaboration with researchers. We create opportunities for creative teaching and learning, and involve students as active partners in major collective undertakings beyond the classroom. 8:00 - 9:15 Faculty Club Check-in + Breakfast Registration; Ideas and Innovations Poster Session 9:15 - 9:30 Bronfman 151 Welcome* 9:30 - 11:00 Bronfman 151 Plenary 1* Student Plenary 11:00 - 12:00 Bronfman 151 Plenary 2* From Being to Doing: Mobilizing the Humanities Register: http://goo.gl/49sBdT THURSDAY, MAY 21 Suzanne Fortier, McGill Principal Introduction: Angela Campbell (McGill) Graduate Student Representatives Register: Same as above Anne Krook (consultant) Moderator: Lesley Cormack (Alberta) Register: Same as above 12:00 - 13:00 Faculty Club Lunch 13:00 - 16:00 Faculty Club Plenary Workshop* on the PhD in the Humanities: short presentations, group work, general discussion Program—Martin Kreiswirth (McGill) + Kathryn Temple (Georgetown) People—Lynn McAlpine (McGill and Oxford) + Susan Cake (Alberta) Purpose—Frédéric Bouchard (Université de Montréal) + Barbara Crow (York) Moderators: Leigh Yetter (McGill) and Paul Yachnin (McGill) 16:15 - 17:30 Bronfman 151 Keynote* Graduate Studies in the ReImagining of 21st-Century Universities Register: http://goo.gl/lZUEw1 17:30 - 19:00 Faculty Club Reception Chad Gaffield (University of Ottawa) Moderator: Ollivier Dyens (McGill) 8:50 - 11:30 Multiple Locations Five Parallel Activities Convene at the Faculty Club for coffee and tea, then head to breakout sessions.
