local guides and operations experts work together to make your trip run
smoothly from start to end. Come and meet the team — they’ll put a smile

Our history
Our luxury fleet
With another 16 luxurious coaches joining the fleet from 2014, our vehicles
are the newest in Australia. Fully air-conditioned, our coaches are equipped
with reclining seats with seat belts and footrests, panoramic windows, an
on-board restroom and two-door access. They also feature state-of-the-art
technology including DVD player, GPS and PA systems. Some of our coaches
are equipped with phone chargers and WiFi*. Most importantly, they are
driven by the finest operators in the Northern Territory.
The leader
Our story began in 1912 when the Pyke family pioneered coach touring in
Australia. Starting with self-drive car-hire in 7 seater vehicles in Sydney, we
expanded to guided tours. By the 1960s, still known as AAT, we had become
Australia’s largest tour operator. In the 1980s we teamed up with pioneering
adventurer Bill King’s outback tours, to create the AAT Kings we know today.
In 2014 more people chose to travel with AAT Kings than any other guided
holiday company in Australia. With more than 100 years’ experience, we’re
recognised and awarded by our industry and are committed to maintaining
a high standard and creating a memorable experience for our guests.

Itinerary
En Route
Boarding early for the drive to Litchfield National
Park down ‘the Track’ (Stuart Highway), you’ll be
entertained by your Driver Guide with tales both
tall and true of the history of Australia’s longest
highway.
Batchelor
The gorgeous town of Batchelor is the gateway
to Litchfield National Park. Up until WWII, Batchelor
was a sleepy little hollow. Then it became an allied
air force base and the population grew quickly.
When uranium was discovered near Batchelor in
1949, the town once again grew until the mine was
closed in 1963. Today, Batchelor’s townsfolk love to
host visitors to Litchfield National Park and it’s here
that you’ll enjoy morning tea (own expense) at one
of their local cafés.
Tolmer Falls
One of the three major waterfalls along the
western face of the Tabletop Range, Tolmer Falls is
a truly spectacular sight. You’ll marvel at the water
cascading down into the deep waterhole at the
base of the falls, which is home to several colonies
of rare ghost bats and orange horseshoe bats.
Lunch at Litchfield Café
Time for a well-earned break. As part of your tour
enjoy lunch at Litchfield Café. Relax, enjoy the
company of your fellow travellers and recount the
morning’s adventure.
Wangi Falls
Ready for another swim? Wangi Falls is the most
accessible of rock pools and is a perfect spot to take
another dip.
Litchfield National Park
Established in 1986, Litchfield National Park is a
truly stunning destination. Here you can take in the
splendour of thundering falls, rainforest pockets
and sacred historic sites. The traditional custodians
of Litchfield National Park are the Wagait people,
many of whom still call the area home.
Termite Mounds
The termite mounds found at Litchfield National
Park are the incredible architectural works of local
termites. Complete with arches, tunnels, chimneys
and nursery chambers, the mounds will leave you
mystified. Listen and learn as your Driver Guide
explains the difference between Cathedral and
Magnetic mounds.
Florence Falls
Florence Falls
View the spectacular double waterfalls of Florence
Falls from a high vantage point before making your
way down the stairs to take a dip in the gorgeous
plunge pool, if you need to cool down a little. Head
back up through forest and open woodland. There’s
also time for an interpretive walk through the
scenic bush and monsoon vine forest.

Today you’re up early to get started on a day that
you’ll long remember. Travelling on one of the
longest roads in Australia, the Stuart Highway,
you’ll see some of the most amazing terrain this
country has to offer. When we turn onto the
Arnhem Highway, the Marrakai Plains will provide a
beautiful backdrop for your onward journey.
Kakadu National Park
Covering an area of more than 19,800 square
kilometres, World Heritage listed Kakadu is the
largest National Park in Australia. The combination
of mangrove fringed coastal areas, expansive flood
plains, lowland hills, open woodland and forest
habitats make Kakadu one of the most diverse
landscapes you’ll ever experience. Be amazed at the
population of wildlife in the water, on the land and
in the air – Kakadu is home to a myriad of animals,
hundreds of bird species and thousands of different
insects and plants. Marvel at the concentration
of rock art sites that illustrates Aboriginal culture
found at Kakadu, some dating back 50,000 years.

Itinerary
En Route
It’s an early start this morning to travel down ‘the
Track’ (Stuart Highway), heading to the amazing
Nitmiluk National Park and Katherine Gorge. Your
Driver Guide will keep you entertained along the
way with stories about Australia’s longest highway
and the history of the region.
Adelaide River War Memorial
Continue to the Adelaide River War Memorial where
you’ll have time to stroll around the memorial.
Dedicated to the many men and women who lost
their lives in the north of Australia during WWII,
this is a beautiful memorial, surrounded by lush
gardens and native plants. Afterwards, stop for
morning tea (own expense).
Nitmiluk National Park
Now we head into the amazing Nitmiluk National
Park. Previously known as Katherine Gorge National
Park, this park spans more than 292,000 hectares.
With rugged landscapes, thundering waterfalls
and unlimited flora and fauna, Nitmiluk is a haven
for adventurers and nature lovers alike. The name
‘Nitmiluk’, meaning ‘Cicada Place’, came from the
Jawoyn people who are the traditional custodians
of the park.
Nitmiluk Visitor Centre
Take some time to browse through the Nitmiluk
Visitor Centre. The Display Centre and Heritage
Museum features large scale models illustrating
the flora, fauna and rock formations of the
Park. Photographs, memorabilia and traditional
Aboriginal artefacts are also on display. If you’d like
to purchase your own Nitmiluk memory, the Centre
has a range of souvenirs and artefacts handmade
by the Jawoyn people.
Katherine Gorge Cruise
A key highlight of your day will be the Katherine
Gorge cruise. One of the most visited sites in
Australia’s Top End, Katherine Gorge is a stunning
network of thirteen gorges carved from billion year
old sandstone that are home to many rapids and
falls flowing from the Katherine River. The two hour
cruise will put you at the heart of Katherine Gorge
among freshwater crocodiles, wonderful bird life
and some of the most amazing scenery that the
Northern Territory has to offer.
Leliyn (Edith Falls)
The landscape at Nitmiluk National Park changes
dramatically through the wet and dry seasons, but
whatever the time of year, Leliyn (Edith Falls) always
has refreshing water to enjoy. You can take a swim
in the waterhole beneath the falls, among the
paperbark and pandanus trees (seasonal).
Aboriginal Rock Art
The spirit and culture of the Aboriginal people
is ever-present at Nitmiluk. Throughout the park
you’ll see original Aboriginal rock art that expresses
in images this very deep spiritual culture.
Buffet lunch in the Park
Lunch will be served in the lush and shaded outdoor
setting of the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre.

Itinerary
En Route
Today you’re up early to get started on a day that
you’ll long remember. Make your own way to
Darwin General Aviation Airport and after a 30
minute scenic flight you’ll arrive at Bathurst Island.
Here you’ll be met by your local guide and be taken
on a journey through the Aboriginal community
of Wurrumiyanga.
The Tiwi community
Learn about the Tiwi people and their unique
culture – a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit
a modern day Aboriginal community. This one
day tour will provide you with an insight into the
Tiwi people’s rich culture and lifestyle. The tour
will reveal scenes seldom seen by many outsiders
and leave you with a lifetime memory. Many cities
are blessed with island destinations close by, but
only Darwin has the Tiwi Islands. They are home
to the Tiwi people, coastal island Aborigines with
permanent smiles.
The Museum
First you will visit the museum with its interesting
displays of traditional art and depictions of the
Tiwi ‘dreamtime’ stories and Early Mission Precinct
with its unique Tiwi style Catholic Church. Your
guide will tell you about the colourful history of
the early mission days and learn how the Tiwi
people have blended their culture with Christianity.
Morning Tea with the Tiwi Ladies
At morning tea you can enjoy billy tea and damper
whilst we spend time with some Tiwi Ladies while
they work on their weaving and painting. Your
guides and the ladies will also demonstrate their
totem dances and perform a smoking ceremony
to bless their visitors and explain the meanings
behind them.
Arts and crafts co-operatives
You will also be taken through the world renowned
Tiwi arts and crafts co-operatives and see where
the artists work and possibly see some of them at
work. You also have the opportunity to purchase
Tiwi arts and crafts and screen-printed fabric at
Island prices.
Alternative Ferry option
Taking the ferry to Bathurst Island provides a more
economical way to experience Tiwi culture.

Bathurst Island scenic drive
You’ll then set out for a scenic drive through the
wilderness of Bathurst Island. Relax by a local
waterhole where a delicious picnic lunch is served.
Lookout and burial site
Stop at a picturesque lookout, which is the setting
of a Tiwi burial site where we can learn some of
the complex rituals associated with the Pukamani
Poles (burial poles). Your guide will also share their
knowledge about traditional bush tucker, bush
medicine and the natural fibres and dyes used by
the Tiwi people. We then return to the community
before your return flight back to Darwin.
