Programme Arrival of Parents and Guests Welcome Andy Squires, Headteacher Introduction Jeannette Astley-Jones, Head of Performing Arts Faculty Guest Speaker Hannah Thomas Musical Interlude Presentation of the Oscars Hannah Thomas Vote of Thanks Andy Squires, Headteacher Departure of Parents and Guests 2015 Shakespeare in Schools Festival Performance of Julius Caesar Welcome Welcome to the Performing Arts Awards Ceremony, our annual celebration of achievement and participation in the Performing Arts at Denbigh. We value highly the strong Performing Arts culture we have at our School and the opportunities it offers our students to learn, observe and perform in the disciplines of Music, Drama and Dance. Our students are extremely talented and always bring such passion and excitement to their performances. Today’s ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate these students and look back on the experiences they have had over the last year. This year we are delighted to have opened dedicated Performing Arts facilities in the newly built extension to the School. The additional space and bespoke accommodation we now have for students participating in Music, Drama and Dance are outstanding and this will only enhance their experience of the Performing Arts at Denbigh. This commemorative brochure contains a review of the year and shows how our students have performed at in-school events and productions, competed in regional competitions, and gained knowledge from attending professional productions and workshops. One of the highlights of last year was the School production of Starlight Express which is pictured in the brochure. This year’s production has been ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and our students have performed with great skill and imagination. Our students also gave a wonderful performance of ‘Julius Caesar’ at the Stantonbury Campus Theatre, as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival. In school students competed in the ever popular and keenly contested Talent Show and performed for parents and the local community at the Christmas Event, which this year was on the theme of the World War I Christmas Truce. The brochure contains the names of all the students we are recognising today for the contribution they have made to the Performing Arts and, new for this year, we are rewarding students who have demonstrated commitment to the Performing Arts over a number of years with half or full colours. It also lists all the students who have taken part in every Performing Arts event throughout the year and those students who are part of external musical groups in association with Milton Keynes Music Co-operative. The brochure features pictures of our students performing with conviction and confidence. As well as recognising the achievements of our students today, we would like to take the opportunity to thank our staff for their contribution to the success of the Performing Arts at Denbigh. The staff listed in the brochure, from both within the Performing Arts Faculty and beyond, give their time and expertise willingly and we thank them for this. Thank you for joining us today and helping to make this such a special event for our students and the School as a whole.
