WELCOME TO CONCOURS DU SOLEIL 2015
Here we are again together for the most exciting event of the fall season in
Albuquerque, Concours du Soleil!
We welcome you to our 9th annual show organized for one simple reason:
to raise funds for our community.
This show would not be possible without
1. Car owners who generously share their beloved automobile(s). They are
the heart of our show and some of the finest people you will meet.
2. Sponsors and major contributors. Please support the businesses you
see in this program, corporate generosity is the backbone of a thriving
community.
3. Albuquerque Community Foundation was asked to become the organizers
of Concours 9 years ago. The staff continues to design an event every
year that becomes the talk of the town while raising funds for local
nonprofit organizations.
Watch SeeHotCars.com for the announcement of this year’s grant
distributions.
Thank you for your continued generosity.

2015 CONCOURS DU SOLEIL:
TEEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP
OPPORTUNITY
It knocks but so many youths can’t hear it.
Today’s teens hear the nagging
voices of self-doubt. They hear the
taunts and pressures of their peers.
They hear the voices of teachers
and parents. And they wonder if
they can do more, be more, be
something.
About 8.5 million American youths
don’t have a caring adult in their
lives. That’s 20 percent, or 1 in 5
kids in America. But research tells
us that resilient kids are the ones
who have someone cheering them on. They’re distinguished by the presence of adults
who give them opportunities and hope.
Mentoring teens can take a myriad of forms, and it often takes a village. Studies tell
us that the best mentoring is embedded within opportunities in the community and
workplace.
And the risks of not intervening at this stage in life are too great. Approximately
82 percent of America’s prison population are high school dropouts. Intervening
and offering opportunity before high school is imperative. Offering entrepreneurial
opportunities to middle-schoolers also addresses unemployment. Youthunemployment rates are staggering, with some estimates at 25 percent. Students who enter
the workforce with skills, confidence and mentoring are far more likely to fare better.
In the end, it produces students who are financially literate, so they can make good
money decisions later in life, avoid common pitfalls, buy homes and own businesses.
They will transform themselves, their families and their communities.
This year’s Concours du Soleil will fund entrepreneurial programs supporting teens.
Studies show engagement in the life of a teen can change their entire life. The
feeling of being a part of a setting or a group, providing opportunities for positive
contributions and recognition, participating in an environment in which teamwork is
encouraged, good ideas are rewarded and new skills are developed.
CREATIVE PARTNERSHIPS REAP THE
BEST REWARD FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
100% of the proceeds from this weekend’s events will benefit our community
Now & Forever. A portion will be added to the Cinco Amigos permanent fund
of the Albuquerque Community Foundation. The remainder will be granted to
local nonprofit organizations.
Since this partnership began, Concours du Soleil has raised over $600,000.

1955 FERRARI 500 MONDIAL SERIES II
PAST WINNERS
Owner: Robert Phillips
Designed to compete in the up to two-liter class, this car was painted French
Racing Blue for the original owner, Francois Picard, who took delivery in May 1955.
In November, as a Ferrari team entry, it took a class win at the 1st Gran Prix of
Venezuela driven by Eugenio Castellotti and Harry Schell. One month later, the car
went on to class wins in two races at Nassau driven by Porfirio Rubirosa and Ebby
Lunken. It was the first Series II car imported into the US and quickly garnered
another class win at the March 1956, 12 Hours of Sebring driven by Porfirio
Rubirosa and Jim Pauley. Following a complete restoration begun in 2000, it was
adjudged a 100 point car, winning its class at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance
in 2008 and was awarded the Enzo Ferrari Trophy by Piero Ferrari for the Best
Ferrari in the field at Pebble Beach. In fifteen meets, the car has been awarded 28
trophies. It is one of three remaining with an original motor of the original eight made.

For generations to come. No one knows exactly what tomorrow may
bring. So what can we do now to help assure that our community’s future
needs are met? The Impact Fund was created to address this question. It
presents an opportunity for all who love Albuquerque to invest in our most
important issues, initiatives and needs for generations to come. Think of it
as our savings account for the future of our community. The flexible dollars
it provides enable the Albuquerque Community Foundation to respond to
emerging needs as they arise - and invest significant funding leadership in
initiatives that strengthen both our community and our future. We are simply
better together.

2015 FEATURED CAR
PORSCHE 918 SPYDER
When talking cars of the future, you have to mention the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder.
From its stunning design to truly brilliant performance and efficiency, the Porsche
918 Spyder has introduced the world to the idea of a hybrid supercar or hypercar.
Styled after of the Carrera GT supercar, the 918 Spyder utilizes the best of Porsche’s
history, while keeping both eyes driving to the future.
This hypercar uses two electric motors, one for the front axle and one for the rear.
With five drive modes available through the steering wheel controls, this car can
switch from a fully electric car to a “Hot Lap” mode which incorporates its 4.6-liter
V-8 engine propelling the car from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds to a top speed of 211 mph.
The 918 is a plug-in hybrid, allowing the battery to reach full charge in less than
7 hours from a standard 110-volt household socket, or in less than 30 minutes with
the optional DC fast charger on an industrial circuit.
Production of the 918 ended in June 2015 leading to extremely limited availability.
With under 300 units in the United States, we are proud to have the Porsche 918
Spyder be the 2015 Concours du Soleil featured car.
13
Headlined by the Porsche 918 Spyder and the
1983 De Lorean DMC-12 replica time machine,
the “Back to the Future” category takes a look
into the future of sports cars. From the hottest
supercars to the electric powered Tesla, this
category depicts what we view as cutting edge.
So why call it “Back to the Future”? In the sequel,
“Back to the Future II,” Marty McFly and Doc
Brown embark on a quest 30 years into the
future to repair the space-time continuum. They
travel in the De Lorean to an age of flying cars,
hoverboards and robotic gas stations. The year in
the movie is 2015, inspiring this category and the
overall theme of Concours du Soleil, 2015.
“Back to the Future” has been a cultural icon
since its release. The original film was the highest
grossing film of 1985 and became an international
phenomenon, leading to two sequels. The trilogy
remains immensely popular after 30 years and
has even inspired rides at the Universal Studios
theme parks in Orlando, Florida; North Hollywood,
California; and Osaka, Japan.
Although many predictions from the movie have not
come to fruition, some of them have - we have handheld
tablet computers, personal electronics and 3D movies.
Some of the other predictions about 2015 from “Back to
the Future II”:
What Came True

1917 MODEL T FORD ROADSTER PICKUP
Owner: Dave Merewether
A driver from the past. In 1917
cars were simpler. The Model
T had no starter, no generator,
no water pump, no fuel pump,
no speedometer and no gauges.
The engine was simple enough
that farmers could make
adjustments and repairs. This
car was upgraded to the 1919
configuration with a starter and

1931 ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM II
1940 DARRIN PACKARD VICTORIA
Owner: Gregg Solove
Phantom II. While all Springfield
Rolls-Royce are of interest to
collectors, the highly developed
Phantom II, in particular the AMS
and AJS series are particularly
prized for their advanced
engineering and quality of build.
Constructed with a left-hand drive
arrangement, these chassis were
often outfitted with expensive
coachwork by Brewster in a
variety of styles. The car retains
the original carriage line of the
Croydon, giving this Phantom
II a distinctive appearance. This particular car is named ‘Hiram’ due to the cars
appearance in the Hiram Walker whiskey ads.
Owner: Robert Friggens
This particular car is built on a
Packard Super Eight chassis,
the most desirable. It has a
special dash taken from a 1938
Packard limousine. Its engine
has twin carburetors with a high
compression head. It is 160
hp and can easily go over 100
mph. It has a 127” wheelbase
which makes for a comfortable
ride, even at speed. This car
exemplifies a late 1930’s Parisian
design plus Packard’s then newest Super Eight chassis (so advanced that Packard
used it until 1954).
1932 PACKARD 902 OPERA COUPE
Owner: Irwin Harms
While most car manufacturers
were closing their doors from the
effects of the Great Depression,
Packard Motor Car Company
continued to concentrate on
building upscale cars for society’s
elite of the United States and
abroad. This 902 Opera Coupe is
a fine example of J. W Packard’s
business model. She is powered
by 319.2 CI Straight 8, 110 hp, with a three speed transmission with overdrive.
Weighing in at 4505 lbs. she can achieve a top speed of 100 mph. The “sticker”
price new was $2,795.00. She also had a supporting role in the 2009 movie
Georgia O’Keeffe, starring Joan Allen, Jeremy Irons and Ed Begley.

2014 GRANTS
THE HISTORY OF CONCOURS DU SOLEIL
The car owners involved decided to formalize the show and model it after the
infamous, “Concours d’Elegance” held in Pebble Beach each year.
established. Each year the weekend
mirrored the previous year, a 2-day
weekend in Los Ranchos. $100,000
in grants have been awarded through
the Foundation. The Cinco Amigos
Endowment Fund grows to $90,000.
1997
Concours du Soleil began as an informal
gathering of the New Mexico Viper
Club displaying cars at a residence in
Albuquerque’s northeast heights. It
quickly grew attracting more owners and
a bigger audience each year.
2011-2013
A road rally was added to incorporate
a Friday event. Drivers were led by a
police escort from Mercedes Benz of
Albuquerque to the Napa Speedway west
of Albuquerque where the rally was held.
Although the rally was fun for everyone
involved, the money raised was not worth
the time and effort to plan so it was not
continued.
2004
A “test-drive”. Organizers staged an
informal Concours which proved to be
a wonderful weekend. Everyone decided
it was a good idea and ventured to plan
something on a bigger scale and Carrie
Tingley Hospital Foundation agreed to be
the beneficiary for the following year.
As local business owners interested in the success of the Greater
Albuquerque community, we focus our grantmaking on Economic and
Workforce Development.
We believe it is our responsibility to help grow business and provide
educational opportunities for residents. To achieve that, we looked for
result-oriented programs focusing on the next generation so they are better
equipped to find gainful employment.
With that goal in mind, we selected the following programs to receive grants:
1. Microsoft YouthSparks Camps-launched in August of 2014, camps are
preparing middle school students for the technology based jobs of the
future
2. A New Day Youth & Family Services to provide a home to homeless youth
while learning vital life-skills guiding them to a productive adulthood
3. UNM’s Lobo MotorSports for the Formula SAE race car program
4. UNM’s Law School for need based scholarships
2005-2006
Organized by Carrie Tingley Hospital
Foundation, the first Concours du Soleil
was held at its current location in Los
Ranchos. It encompassed a Saturday
night gala and Sunday public show. Carrie
Tingley would organize the show for two
years when a conflicting fundraising event
would preclude them from participating
in 2007. All proceeds were donated to
Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation.
2014
In an effort to raise more funds for
the Albuquerque community, the
organizers incorporated a Friday night
crowdfunding event. Proceeds from this
event helped fund the “Driving to the
Future” technology classroom inside the
Epicenter @ Innovate ABQ. Focusing on
Economic & Workforce Development and
Entrepreneurship, the Epicenter provides
a space for technology camps for
Albuquerque students and a meeting/
gathering space for entrepreneurial
organizations.
2007-2009
The Albuquerque Community Foundation
is asked to take over the planning of
the event. The Cinco Amigos Fund is
