Joseph Vogel, Pastor GETTING READY FOR THE COMING OF CHRIST Jefferson residence: 605-966-5716 Email: [email protected] Deacon Joe Twidwell Cell phone: 712-253-9273 Email: [email protected] The word Advent means “coming.” In Advent, we recognize that Jesus came to us 2,000 years ago. Also in Advent, we recognize that He will come again, either at the end of our own life or at His second coming when the final judgment will take place. We must always keep in mind the third coming of Jesus: in our everyday life, in the poor and the lonely, in the Eucharist, and in the Word of God. Do your best to attend daily Mass at least once a week. Did you know that if you attend daily Mass at least once a week, your IQ will increase at least 100 points? Just kidding, only trying to see if you really read the bulletin. Read and pray the daily Mass readings. There is a very intentional plan on how the readings are presented as they prepare us to recognize His coming. Pray for those who are not attending church and invite them to come to Mass with you. Most people who return to the practice of their Catholic faith only do so because someone invited them. Pray these readings with someone else in your family or a friend. Something happens when we reflect and share the Word of God with others. Pray the Rosary. Pray it alone, as a family or with a friend. The mysteries are all about the life and love of Jesus. Join a Rosary Club. To find out more about Rosary Clubs, please call the Parish Office. Go to Confession. Nothing is better for the soul than to get cleaned up as you prepare to meet Jesus. Don't be so busy this Advent season. One of the primary obstacles to holiness is busyness. Internet Resources for your family for Advent: One of the great things about the internet is that there is so much information available for our use. If you want to find some Advent activities for you and/or your family search the internet. Search the internet for the following topics: Catholic Culture Advent activities; 10 meaningful Advent Activities for Catholic Families; Christmas Advent Calendar EWTN.co. A Reflection for your week…. Every morning when we get up, let us pray, “Lord, show me someone today with whom I may share your love, mercy and forgiveness.” Mother Teresa of Calcutta once said, "Whatever you do in your family, for your children, for your husband, for your wife, you do for Jesus." Every night when we go to bed, let us ask ourselves, “Where have I found Christ today?” The answer will be God’s Advent gift to us that day. By being alert and watchful we will receive an extra gift: Christ himself. Let us remember the saying of St. Thomas Aquinas: "Without God, I can't. Without me, He won't." HOLY DAY AND HOLIDAY MASS TIMES Imm. Conception Sacrament of Reconciliation: 30 minutes prior to Daily Mass (ending 5 minutes prior to Mass); 1 hour prior to weekend Masses except 11am Mass (ending 15 minutes prior to Mass) or call for appointment.
