May our hearts and souls embrace Psalm 113:3 that declares, “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised.” It is our prayer that tonight, we will praise our glorious God and worship the King Who has been faithful to our school system since its origins in 1963. Many things have changed since then, but our Lord has not. Nor has the heart and soul of our schools: the education of our children in God’s way. We are still educating the entire child–mind, body, and spirit. We still have godly men and women who daily model Christ in their classrooms while integrating Biblical principals into all our subjects. We still have chapels, service hours, mission trips. And, we are still a family to your family. As you can imagine, I meet a lot of graduates from our schools, and there is a unique reaction to having attended DC or XC. Their memories go beyond the typical school memories. The people I’ve met tell story after story of how faculty, staff, coaches, or fellow students challenged them, impacted them, and changed their lives. A certain chapel spoke to them. A mission trip inspired them. A fellow student prayed for 4 Dayton Christian School System them. A teacher believed in them. We also receive letter after letter of former students who openly confess that they were one of those “problem” students, but how the scripture they memorized as youths came back with power as adults, completely transforming them later in life. Those are the letters that humble me and remind me that what we do here is not void or in vain. We are indeed educating for eternity, and tonight is just a small thank you to all of you who have participated in that–friends, donors, family, alumni, students, staff, faculty. We are all united in one family as children of a loving Father. We praise YOU, God, and thank YOU for allowing us to be a part of a heritage of fifty years at this remarkable school system. We are excited to see what You bring to us in the next fifty years. 50th Anniversary Celebration 5 A Letter From Bud Schindler Founder & President Emeritus “Look at the nations and watch—and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” Habakkuk 1:5 In 1963 when God gave a small group of believers the vision to begin a Christian school in Dayton, little did we know the miraculous journey that He had in store for us. We literally had no idea what God had in mind. Starting with a meager student body of fourteen children, we grew to a system impacting thousands of young lives both nationally and internationally for eternity. Our greatest joy and passion has been for the wonderful young people and their families that God brought into our lives. We have watched and celebrated their victories, wept and prayed with them in times of sorrow and struggle, and with them gave praise to our precious Savior as they grew into adulthood. Their lives today bring us such joy as they serve our Lord literally around the world. The Apostle John in III John 1:4 expresses well 8 Dayton Christian School System the way we feel about our students: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” We embrace the truth that anything of value can only be accomplished by praying and totally depending upon God. Our commitment has been and continues to be to pray and experience His grace and mercy as He works. Jeremiah 33:3 continues to appear on our walls as a testimony of our dependence upon Him: “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” God has indeed done great and mighty things in the ministry of Dayton Christian. Humbly serving Him with you, - Bud & Carole Schindler 50th Anniversary Celebration 9 Dayton Christian School System Leadership On behalf of the Board of Trustees for the Dayton Christian School System, I would like to take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to God for this ministry and the impact of the dedicated teachers and administrators who have worked in the lives of children in the Dayton area for the last fifty years. This current board and the trustees who have served before us have had the unique perspective of watching the Heavenly Father’s mighty hand move powerfully in initiating, growing, and sustaining this ministry for the last half century. It has been a humbling privilege to serve, seeking God’s will and direction as He has called parents and teachers to partner sacrificially to assure that our children are not simply being educated for life on this earth, but for all eternity. The logo utilizes classic symbols of the Christian faith, including the Sword of the Spirit and the Shield of Faith (Ephesians 6:16-17). The colors represent the existing branches of our school system--burgundy for our school system, purple for Dayton Christian, blue for Xenia Christian, and green for Dayton Christian Homeschool. We also incorporated the school system’s long-time tagline “Educating for Eternity” and added the new tagline “Faithfully Looking Forward.” God has blessed the Dayton Christian School System in incredible and miraculous ways over the years, but “Faithfully Looking Forward” was thoughtfully added to this year’s logo to demonstrate that we truly believe that the Dayton Christian School System has not just a rich heritage but also a promising future. Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” We’re not done running! Thank you for celebrating this special year with us. We cherish your friendship! 50th Anniversary Celebration 19 DCSS History Timeline of DCSS Schools and Facilities 1963 Dayton Christian Elementary School started with a kindergarten class of fourteen students in the facilities of Patterson Park Grace Brethren Church, under the name of Patterson Park Christian School. 1965 Patterson Park Christian School became Dayton Christian Elementary School and received an Ohio State Charter (K-8) with full accreditation. 1967 1968 22 Christian Junior High School began in the facilities of Christian Tabernacle Church in downtown Dayton.
