ur club will be part of a Ford display at Sinclair Ford that will
be held on June 27th. Sinclair is our major sponsor
and we need as many members rides in attendance as we can get. Club member, Ron Schodroski is our contact to Sinclair and would appreciate the help of our members to fill the lot. The
event will benefit The BackStoppers. We will meet
at Sinclair after 9 am. We will have more details
available at our board and membership meetings
this month. This is a club event for points.
he Mustang Club of St. Louis will hold
their all Ford show that will be held at the
Museum of Transportation on June 6th.
We have outgrown the parking lot at Sugar
Creek Park so we have changed our meeting
location. We will now meet at the Des Peres
medical complex which will be the first right after
you exit Highway 270 to Dougherty Ferry Road.
The street name is Highland. There is an Emergency Room sign at the entrance. We will be
meeting at 9 am and we will be leaving at 9:15
am. If you prefer, you can go directly to the
show. This is a club event.
T
he 7th Annual Spirit of
the
Midwest
Rides
for
Guides Car Show
will be held at the
Machinist’s Hall located at 12365 St. Charles Rock Road in
Bridgeton. The June 28th show benefits Guide
Dogs of America. No caravan for this show as
we will meet at the show location. . Club member Burt Pennington would appreciate your support. This is a club event.
A
he Federal Mogul car cruise will be held at
their facility located at 3186 Riverport
Tech Center in Maryland Heights. Many of
our members attended last year. It offers a display of their facility and a car display. There is no
charge for this event. Dan Kelly noted that they
had some very nice attendance prizes last year.
The event will be held on Friday, June 12th from
4 to 8 pm. Food and drink will be available. If
you would like more information, please contact
Dan. This is not a club event.
lthough not a club event,
many of our members
plan on attending the
Charity Rod Run to be held
in Wentzville on Friday, June 5th. The event will
be held from 6 to 9 pm. There is a required donation of $10 to benefit the City of Wentzville
D.A.R.E program. The main road is closed but
open to all registered vehicles. You can cruise
as you please or park and watch cars and trucks
of all variety.

e had a situation
where three different
events
that we normally attend,
all happened on the same
day. The Classics on
Wheels car show was
held on May 2nd. For the
past couple of years, the
show was held in the fall.
This year it was moved
back to May which happened to be the same
weekend as Valley of
Flowers
show
in
Florissant and the Shelbyfest held in Jeff City, so
our members were all at
different shows. Neverthe-less, we did have a
good turn out in Elsberry
with 19 of our member
cars in attendance. Five
of our members took
home a trophy and Scott
Lewis took the “Best of
Show” award. We also
got to see a Kenny
Simms burnout. Thanks
to Mike McCallister for the
donuts. It was a great day
for a car show at all three
events.

n Saturday, Aug. 22nd and Aug. 23rd, the
club will be making an overnight trip to
Jefferson City. We will leave at 7:30
a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22nd. We will caravan to
Jeff City at a location that will be posted next
month. The club has a special hotel rate set up
at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. It is $74.00 per suite
per night. The suite includes a king size bed and
pull out couch. They will also honor this rate if
you want a room with two double beds and/or if
someone wants come down early on Friday
night or stay thru Sunday night. The price also
includes complimentary breakfast for 2 on Sunday.
The hotel offers an indoor pool and fitness
center, and covered parking in a 4 level garage. Once we get an estimated number of cars,
they will block off parking for us in the garage.
To make reservations call 800-338-8088 and tell
them your with Fords Unlimited to get the special
rate. Right now we have 20 rooms blocked for
us. They are asking that we try to book before
July 23, when it gets closer to that time, we will
adjust the number of rooms that they are holding
for us.
Right now we have walking tour scheduled for the Missouri State Capitol Building at
2:00 on Saturday, Aug. 22nd, in the afternoon. The tour of the Capitol is free. We will
need to arrive about 1:45. This is a walking tour
and will include stairs, however there is an elevator available. After the tour, there is an on-site
Missouri History Museum that will walk thru. We
will go to dinner as a group, however those details have not been worked out.
On Sunday morning, we have a 10:00
a.m. tour of the Missouri State Penitentiary, also
known as “Alcatraz of the Midwest”,
booked. There is a $13 charge and a waiver
that must be signed for the tour. We will need to
arrive about 10 minutes early. Parking is on the
Street, but it should not be a problem, as we are
the first tour of the day. The tour would enter
the upper yard through the front entrance. The
Page 3

steel gate will clank behind us just like we were
inmates entering the prison. We will tour the upper yard, then take a seat in the oldest housing
unit from 1868. We will hear history and interesting stories of the inmates, tour the underground dungeon cells (optional of course), tour
the cells and then walk back to our vehicles. Then drive around the block to the lower
yard to the back of the property to tour the gas
chamber and hear more history. Since the property was built in 1836, this tour is not suitable for
wheelchairs, crutches or walkers. Many people
have gone on the tour with canes without a problem. Cameras are welcome, wear comfortable
shoes (no sandals, please). If it is raining, bring
umbrellas. If paying by check make it payable
to: Jeff City CVB or have correct change cash.
Please note: they do NOT bring a bag of money
to make change.

A little rain didn’t stop our night
at the Rascals game to benefit The BackStoppers, held
on May 16th at the T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O’Fallon, Missouri. We were
not able to drive our cars around the field but Josh Johnson did throw out
the first pitch. We thank Dan Kelly for all the work that he
put into this successful fundraiser.
Paula Goodrich turned in these photo’s taken at the
very successful Shelbyfest held in Jefferson City.

s at our Rascals game, the
weather forecast was not
good for the Salute to the
Troops car show held on May 17th at
the VFW Hall in O’Fallon Missouri.
Club members Scott and Lynette
Lewis host the show and members
Kenny and Gwen Simms, Mark and
Sandy Carey and Bart McNail helped with parking and registration. The show was held
to support veterans needs. Due to the uneasy forecast, the turnout was small this year
but our club supported with 16 members cars and trucks in attendance. Other than a
few sparse raindrops, the day stayed dry and we were heading home at 1 pm.

rolled over to 400,000
miles. It has a 4.0 V6
engine with automatic
transmission, 4 wheel
drive. We bought it in Oct. 2003 It has the original engine and transmission. There has been no
work done to either. All we have done is the necessary maintenance and a lot of tires. We have
definitely gotten our monies worth and it just
goes to show that with regular maintenance they
can go a long way. As I write this I have already
put another 1000 miles on it.

fter years
of storing
car show items at various different locations,
we finally bit the bullet and
have rented a small storage locker. We now
have a central location to store our BBQ pits,
coolers, tents and so on. We thank Dan Kelly for
setting this up for our club.
S
ome of our members represented our club at the Valley of
Flowers parade held on May
3rd. Dan Kelly turned in this information. “Attending were myself with a car
load of grand kids, Jerry Grimmer with
his son Greg and grand kids, John
Sullivan with Mark Carey as his copilot, Jake Turnipseed and his daughter, Josh and Mom, and last but not
least was Ed and Julie Mauzy and
kids with his big blue Raptor with the
large flags and bubble machines in
the bed. He added another bubble
machine this year as the older one
wasn't producing enough bubbles!”
L
ike the a speeding freight train, our show
is coming upon us at a fast rate. At our
May 20th car show meeting there was
plenty to discuss. Show chairman, Jim Biermann, addressed many of items that needed to
be address now.
Dan Kelly brought a plaque example that
was approved by the board of directors. We
have ordered the plaques and we should be in
good shape on this.
Jim has been working on the car show
shirts and we may go to a colored shirt this year.
Last year, we ordered 72 and sold out so this will
be addressed this year. Get yours early.
The final show flyer was approved and we
should have flyers by the board of directors
meeting, if not, at our membership meeting this
month.
What we need now is the commitment
from our members to be available to fill all of the
needed spots at the show. We need people
parking cars, working concessions, counting ballots and the many other jobs that have to be
done. This is the day that you bring your car and
probably won’t see it again until you go home.
For our club, this is a work event and we need
all hands available to be successful.
