Visits Care Centre
M
arc Habscheid and Tim Vanstone
of the Western Hockey League’s
Prince Albert Raiders recently
took time out of their busy schedules to
visit residents and hockey fans living in
the Swift Current Care Centre and Palliser
Regional Care Centre.
The SCCC Activities Department hosts
men’s gatherings every second month and
the idea of a hockey theme was mentioned.
Tim Vanstone, son of Health Services
Manager Jackie Vanstone, asked coach
Marc Habscheid if he would be able to participate and the two were the honoured guests of the day.
Marc Habscheid was a member of Team Canada at the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary and enjoyed
a successful career in the National Hockey League. He scored 72 goals and 91 assists in 345 career
games with the Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota North Stars, and Detroit Red Wings. Since retiring as
a player he has coached the Kamloops Blazers, Kelowna Rockets, Chilliwack Bruins/Victoria Royals,
and the Prince Albert Raiders. Marc coached the Kelowna Rockets to a national championship
Memorial Cup in 2003-04 and even brought his championship ring for the residents to see and touch.
Tim Vanstone is from Swift Current and will be entering his 4th season with the Prince Albert Raiders
this fall. Tim has scored 15 goals and 23 assists in 159 career WHL games. Tim is a former Swift
Current Legionnaire where he scored 14 goals and 19 assists in 38 games in 2011-12.
Staff at the facility brought in various items of sports memorabilia and Sports Trader in Swift Current
lent some old equipment to the event including skates, sticks, and hockey gloves.
Travis Kelln, a former player in the Western Hockey League, was also recognized as his father, Wayne,
is a resident of the Swift Current Care Centre. Travis is now the principal at Fairview School in Swift
Current.
A huge thank you and appreciation is extended to Marc and Tim for stopping by for a visit!

Train the
Trainer, TLR
T
he region will be offering a Train the Trainer course to equip individuals with the knowledge
and resources needed to deliver the TLR (Transferring, Lifting, Respositioning) program to coworkers.
You are a trainer candidate if you:

are an employee of the region/agency
support the standards of the TLR program
have the ability to disseminate TLR material
have the physical ability to demonstrate the moves
are comfortable and confident with training co-workers
show good communication and motivational skills
have job duties that allow for the flexibility to provide TLR training sessions
show interest in promoting a safe work place
have a strong background in healthcare environment preferred

Upon successfully completing this course, participants will be provided with a Certificate of
Completion. Certification is valid for three years, and trainers must be re-certified in order to retain
their active status. TLR certified trainers are not authorized to provide general participant training in
agencies that are not authorized to use the TLR program.

Linen Transition
in Maple Creek
T
he provincial linen service strategy
for Saskatchewan health care was
announced nearly two years ago.
Since that time, there has been a great
deal of planning completed by 3sHealth
and the provincial health regions/
Saskatchewan Cancer Agency to prepare
for the transition to the new service
which will begin province-wide in the
fall of 2015.

In Maple Creek where plans are
continuing towards the transition
into the new Southwest Integrated
Healthcare Facility, an interim strategy
K-Bro Institutional Linen Plant
for linen is in place. K-Bro Linen
Systems, the new provincial linen
solution, is now working with the Cypress Lodge Nursing Home and the temporary acute
care services location to provide linen services in the community.
Switching to K-Bro in advance of the move into the new facility is allowing the staff and
facilities to develop standard work and consistent processes for the delivery of clean linen
and the transfer of soiled linen. The end goal is to have the institutional linen process
in place and familiar prior to moving into the new facility so that focus can be solely on
the transition of services without needing to be concerned with a new linen process. All
personal clothing will continue to be laundered in the facility via washer/dryer machines
located in each of the three long term care houses.
Prior to the implementation of the K-Bro linen
solution all institutional linens and residents’
personal clothing were being processed
at Cypress Lodge using domestic laundry
equipment. The industrial machines on-site
were experiencing mechanical challenges and
were not replaced due to the impending move
to the new facility.
Staff at the Cypress Lodge Nursing Home are
commended for their efforts and ideas on the
implementation of the new linen system.
The first shipment of K-Bro linen took place in Maple Creek on April 8, 2015.
