There were a couple of upsets but those students were able to complete the tests on the Friday. Pupil Free Day Alicia O’Neill Scarlett Hall Alex Martino For your attention or interest PHOTO DAY Wednesday 1st June Please only bring your envelope and money on the day not before. Our Pupil Free Day was very successful with staff members engaging in a range of different learning activities. Some staff worked with the Kindy staff, some worked with the Year 8 teachers and some worked as a primary group on Mentoring for Learning. In the morning we looked at the research of John Hattie and started our work in the area of Positive Education. We have had many positive comments about the learning and the challenges the day brought to a range of staff members. Barossa Partnership Review Meeting On Tuesday I attended the Barossa Partnership Review morning. This was challenging but rewarding. Students who are on school grounds before 8.30am and after 3.30pm are not supervised and the school is not able to take responsibility for them. Before 8.30am students need to wait under the shelter near the staffroom and after 3.30pm they are asked to come to the office so we can supervise them. DATE: 26th May 2016 TERM: 2 WEEK: 4 Quote: “Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.” Roald Dahl WOW Next Tuesday, the Reception to year 5 students will be involved in an environmental presentation by Wipe Out Waste (WOW). Students will be learning how to reduce, recycle and compost waste. SHE Programme The SHE programme will begin on Tuesday. Girls in years 3-7 are all invited to be a part of this very interesting programme. Bec Normington is managing this programme and will be telling the girls more about it in the next couple of days. School Photos Next Wednesday is school photo day. We expect all students to be dressed in full school uniform on that day. Any students out of uniform will be very obvious in their class photos. Please make sure you have your envelopes completed and the money enclosed for your child to bring to school Wednesday. Please do not bring money and envelopes to school before photo day. The photographers will deal with the money and orders directly; we do not have a role in the transactions at all. History Walk I hope you had the opportunity to go and explore the History Walk the weekend before last. Our students’ work was fantastic (as usual) and they should feel very proud of their contribution. Thank you to Kylie Murray and Courtney Adam’s students; Marg Underwood and Sally Keane’s students and Emilie Mazis’ students for preparing work for the display. A big thank you also to Kylie Murray for organising our display. Cross Country Congratulations to all students who participated in the District Cross Country last week. A special congratulations to: First place in 9yo boys Kaleb White. Fourth place in 10yo girls Mackensee Rossack. Seventh place in 11 yo girls Shari Davis. Third place in the 11yo girl’s team event: Shari Davis, Hannah Quodling and Cassie Clayton. Mackenzie Rossack will now represent the district at Oakbank on the 9th June. We had 52 students representing NPS from year 3 up and there were over 580 runners from around the district. Cross Country is a real challenge and everyone who participated should be very pleased with themselves for completing the course. Choir Congratulations to Marg Underwood and our choir. The choir was assessed last week and received a B grade. Once again our students performed very well, behaved perfectly and were wonderful. Thank you all for your hard work and commitment to the choir. Auditor This week we have had the auditor here reviewing our finances. As expected, we received a very good report, which supports the great work of Ali Eberhard. Well done Ali. Working Bee Thank you Adele White and the Grounds Committee for organizing the Working Bee. We had approximately 10 parents and teachers here working to clean the school and do the extra things needed to make our school look better. The students really appreciate the efforts of those who attended because their school is much cleaner now. Community Notices Barossa Valley Little Athletics CROSS COUNTRY EVENT When: Sunday, June 26 Where: Bethany Reserve, Bethany. Cost: Gold Coin (plus $5 Come & Try fee applies for non Little Athletics Members) Time: from 11:00 – 2:30 Events: Tiny Tots 40m, Under 6 (500m) to Under 17 (3000m) This is a fun day for the whole family. All athletes welcome, you do not have to be a registered Little Athletics Member – come and try fee applies here. There will be a canteen operating. GERMAN NEWS 2016 Over the past two weeks, classes have had the opportunity to witness the life cycle of a Monarch Butterfly. We have continued the theme of The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Die kleine Raupe Nimmersatt, with a focus on its lifecycle and the associated German vocabulary. Thanks to Mrs Underwood for sourcing the caterpillars! We have been able to set up a suitable environment within the German Room for the caterpillars to eat until they were full. On Monday morning of week 4, classes were greeted with 6 cocoons. In approximately 2 weeks, we should be seeing butterflies emerging – we are all very excited. The school looked amazing. We were so lucky with the weather and achieved a lot. The German school was operating at the time and they were impressed with the work that was done. The comment to me was, “You must all really love your school, to give up your precious time on a weekend!” The assistance was really appreciated. For a young inexperienced choir their performance was amazing. Their overall grade was a B, again impressive as the South Australian average is a C. As their choir teacher I’d like to congratulate them all on an excellent assessment. Marg Underwood RAA Visit On Wednesday of Week 3, we had a visit from the RAA who ran a fantastic Street Smart workshop for 5 lucky classes. Our guest speaker, Hilary, highlighted the importance of things such as seat belts, helmets and roadcrossing techniques. Students who attended each session took home a flashing light or reflective tag for their backpacks to help them be more visible to motorists when walking, skating or cycling on the roads.
