ST. SALVATOR CHURCH in Klementinum
is a part of the former Jesuit Klementinum College by Charles Bridge.
Today it belongs to the academic parish. Founded in the 16th century it
was completed in the 17th century by a famous Italian architect Carlo
Lurago and belongs to the most valuable early baroque buildings
in Prague. Its architecture was inspired by the church Il Gesu in
Rome, a model for many sacred buildings in the baroque era. The
church houses a beautiful organ from the 18th century and popular
orchestral and organ concerts take place here. St. Salvator (Holy
Saviour) Church is established as the first academic parish in the Czech
Republic and as a categorial parish. It offers a platform for ecumenical
and interreligious dialogue and is open for spiritual seekers and nonactive Christians.

HISTORY OF BAROQUE ORGAN
After preliminary research of the Institute for care of historical
monuments we don’t know nor the author neither the year of
construction of the organ. It’s sure, that at the end of 17th century
there were two onemanual (one fingerboard) organs, that were partly
reconstructed and put together by organist J. M. Gruber between 1698 –
1699. The next reconstruction is mentioned in 18th century. The technical
research of K. Wegscheider showed, that today’s organ has an older parts
from 17th century.

Fantasia in A Minor, BWV 904
Robert Hugo - organ
Got his first univesity degree at the Faculty of Science at the
Charles University in Prague. He also is a graduate of the
Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, the Department
of Music Theory. He studied organ with Milan Šlechta at
the same institute. In the season 1992-93 he worked as
a conductor in the National Theatre in Brno. In 1992 he
founded an ensemble Capella Regia Praha, which performs
mainly Czech Baroque music. He is a specialist on Czech and
South German Baroque music. In 1998 he made the famous
recording of Czech Christmas Mass by Jakub Jan Ryba for
the Deutsche Gramophon staring Magdalena Kožená. Robert
Hugo teaches at the Academy of Early Music of the Masaryk
University in Brno. He is currently an organist in the Church
of the Holy Saviour in Prague.
