Order Taking Sanity What impressions are your customers forming as they stand in your store and wait to be helped during these busy prom order taking days???? When it comes to customer service, the old adage holds true, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” Those first few seconds your customer spends in your business will speak volumes about your professionalism, experience and concern for the most important person at your company – that customer. Make those initial moments count by paying close attention to the first impression your business is making to the rest of the world. Your Professional Image The first impression your customers get of your business will give them plenty of information about your professional image. If your staff is less than helpful, your customers are likely to label you with a less than stellar image rating. In fact, they may tell others about their less than satisfactory experience with your co mpany, discouraging other prospective customers from walking through those doors! Social media has instant results! Your Office Environme nt You may wonder what a clean store has to do with customer service, but the presentation has everything to do with how your business comes across to potential customers. When a customer walks into an environment filled with clutter (or worse), it is likely to distract her from her business – which is paying your goods and services. However, if your stores are relatively neat, clean and inviting, the customer probably won’t give his surroundings a second thought because she will be preoccupied with their order transaction. I know, I know….who has time to clean???? But starting each day on the right foot makes it easier!! Choosing the Right People When a customer walks into your place of business, who does he encounter first? A warm, welcoming employee dressed professionally and ready to greet him with a smile? If not, it’s time to put some time and energy into finding emp loyees that will exude the type of professional image you want for your business. Train them well, ensuring their service is impeccable and consistent with every customer that walks through your door. The First Greeting Customers will begin assessing your service at the first “hello,” so be sure that initial greeting is on the mark. Anyone who comes in contact with your customers should be trained to greet them with a smile and a friendly, “How may I help you?” Annoying habits like gum chewing and constant texting, personal conversations etc… should be strictly prohibited in your company – from the top down. Professional dress should also be a requirement of course. By paying attention to those first impressions, you can win over customers much more quickly and effectively, right from the first “hello.” Prom order taking creates lines and “wait time” issues for all perspective customers. A number system to be sure they are not skipped over assures everyone they will be taken care of as quickly as possible a nd in proper order. A greeter who can pass out numbers and give them guidelines on what choices they will be asked to make will help greatly when their time arrives to be waited on!! Hang in there everyone!! Visa Survey on Prom Costs Inflation for Annual School Dance Most Acute in the Northeast with Spending Twice That of Other Regions SAN FRANCISCO, April 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite continuing economic sluggishness, a new national survey by Visa Inc. shows that when it comes to high school proms, Americans appear to be willing to spend ever increasing amounts. American families who have teenagers will spend an average of $1,078 each on the prom, a 33.6% boost over the $807 spent in 2011. "Prom season spending is spiraling out of control as teens continuously try to one-up each other," said Jason Alderman, Senior Director of Global Financial Education, Visa Inc. "It's important to remember that the prom is a high school dance, not a wedding, and parents need to set limits in order to demonstrate financial responsibility." The prom spending data also revealed some interesting regional and income level disparities. Families in the Northeast will spend twice as much as every other region of the country. Regionally, the survey found: Northeastern families will spend an average of $1,944 Southern families will spend an average of $1,047 Western families will spend an average of $744 Midwestern families will spend an average of $696 One troubling statistic is that parents surveyed who fell in the lowest income brackets (less than $50,000) plan to spend more than the national average - $1,307. Breaking down the spending by family income, the survey found: Parents who Parents who Parents who Parents who Parents who Parents who make under $20,000 will spend an average of $1,200 make $20,000-$29,999 will spend an average of $2,635 make $30,000-$39,999 will spend an average of $801 make $40,000-$49,999 will spend an average of $695 make over $50,000 will spend an average of $988 make over $75,000 will spend an average of $842 The Visa survey also found that parents are planning to pay for 61% of prom costs while their teens are only covering the remaining 39%. "One of the reasons that prom spending may be running amok is that parents are paying the vast majority of the costs, giving teens little incentive to economize," Alderman added. *The survey results are based on 1,000 telephone interviews conducted nationally from March 30 – April 1 in cooperation with GfK Roper OmniTel.
