2010 Estate Viognier
Stainless Steel
There is no bottle of Rideau white wine
more savored and extolled than our
Estate Viognier. Suppressed, ignored,
and uprooted for its reputation as an
unusually finicky grape, Viognier saw
a drastic decline in plantings over the

making an especially large impact on
the California Central Coast. Despite finding ideal conditions in this
region, the grape remains unwieldy on the vine, requiring much
attention and dedication to guide it safely towards harvest. Following our annual tradition of stainless steel Viogniers, our 2010
vintage maintains the delicacy of aroma and fruit that our Viognier
is known for, ultimately providing a rounded and complete bottle
of wine that can stand up to even the most complex red wines.

2009 Estate Syrah
With five acres resting on the highest
hill overlooking our estate, Syrah is
the most widely-planted red grape
on our vineyard. Indeed, this major

adopted by our region as a whole and

our property. The warm days can
be tasted in the attack, with dark
red fruit up front. The cool nights are evident on the finish, where
chalky earth, mocha, and a variety of spices mingle with the initial
fruit notes. The wine is drinking as a nice, bold young red now, so we
O
n a cool November evening, winemakers Nick and
Amanda, along with the whole staff of the Rideau
Vineyard winery, could be seen celebrating with wine and
barbecue under plastic tents as the rain fell. They were
celebrating what the skeletal branches of our estate vines,
reaching towards overcast skies, also signal: harvest is now
over. The weather cooperated perfectly – as it has for most
of this year – holding back rainfall until all fruit had been
harvested from the vines. Our estate fruit, along with that
which we have acquired from other nearby vineyards, has
benefited from a moderate growing season, with mild temperatures through the summer capped off by a late heat-wave
that helped to finalize the ripening. We had a particularly
bountiful harvest of Viognier, all of which is characteristically lovely, displaying the mix of bright tropical fruit, structural acidity, and unique minerality that always makes it so
popular. The cool summer should make for a spicy estate
Syrah with soft fruit and healthy tannins. Though the fruit
is still young, you’ll likely be tasting some of our stainless
steel whites by the summertime. Now that all the
fruit is safely in the winery, we can enjoy

2010 ‘Stainless’ Chardonnay
2008 Estate Grenache
As compared to our bolder 2009
Estate Grenache, the 2009 Fleurde-lis Grenache is light-bodied
and wonderfully bright with a
mild tannic backbone. The bright
strawberry notes are a
perfect complement
to lighter meat dishes,
such as turkey or ham.
The long tradition of heavily-oaked,
creamy California Chardonnay’s
finds its opposite in this lovely, 100%
stainless steel interpretation. With
fruit from our sister site, La Presa
Vineyard, this bright,
crisp Chardonnay reveals the complexity
inherent in the fruit.
This month, we are sending our Platinum Club
Members a free bottle of our 2008 Estate Grenache. The nose of our 2008 Estate Grenache is
a mix of wild berries and mulberry spice while
the palate, texturally, can be described as buoyant
but not thin, vibrant with wild strawberries and raspberries. It finishes wonderfully round with smooth tannins. This bottling has had some time in the bottle;
it is drinking very well right now, so enjoy it with a holiday meal this season.
