The team visited Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary to talk about Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success with the 2nd–5th graders. The kids were divided into small groups so each player could talk with the kids about one of the blocks. Giving the kids the opportunity to talk with the athletes in a smaller group setting has worked really well. As one of the teachers shared, “I think it was a GREAT idea to break the kids up into small groups; they were very engaged and psyched to be talking with the players.” The team also visited the Janet Pomeroy Center and spent an entire afternoon playing basketball and 24 | CCSF Men’s Basketball interacting with the folks there. The Pomeroy team gave the Rams their first loss of the season, but both sides were all smiles at the end. The half-time show with both teams dancing together was a highlight to be remembered and cherished. Although the members of the Pomeroy Center certainly took away some fond memories, the Rams players benefited even more from the experience. Outreach Program | 25 CCSF RAMS BASKETBALL CAMP FUN BASKETBALL & LIFE SKILLS The City College of San Francisco Rams Basketball Camp has enjoyed ten years of success, teaching hundreds of children life skills through fundamental basketball principles. The camps are designed to provide a fun and exciting basketball camp experience for each camper while teaching the fundamentals of the game. This goal is achieved by teaching fundamentals and skills through station work. Character and sportsmanship are addressed at the beginnning and end of each day at camp. Each camper receives a camp shirt when they walk in the gym, a camp ball on the last day, and life skills handouts at the end of each camp day.
