Joinery
Hardwoods
Nothing makes a piece of furniture sturdier than the joinery of yesteryear. Real wood joinery expands and contracts with the rest of the table, and doesn’t fail or work loose after years of use, like
metal connectors. There’s a reason antiques are still valuable today: because joints like dovetails and
mortise and tenon stand up to the wear and tear of daily use.
In the age of particle board and veneer, we
choose to use real, solid hard and soft woods. Our
furniture is sturdy, made to last a lifetime of use.
Hardwoods’ beauty increases with age, so you’ll
pass on a beautifully worn and loved piece to
your grandkids someday.

Peg Mortise and Tenon

Pegs hold the tenon in place,
adding attractive, functional
details to the furniture’s surface. Blind Mortise and Tenon
Tenon does not stick out
of the mortise on the other side. Still has the holding
power of other joints, without adding surface detail.

Our faux finishes bring the patina of history to
the wood. The right combination of wood stain,
paint, sanding, and distress brings the surface
to life with character. We also have beautifully
stained and lacquered finishes that highlight the
natural beauty of the wood and bring out the
grain. There are many combinations of wood,
stain, paint, and other surface treatments that
change the appearance of the furniture, so if you
don’t see what you want in our menu of finish
samples, just ask!

grade hardwoods to hand forged

Variations
When we say that our Savannah Bench is a “signature piece”, it
means that we’ve made it many times,
in many sizes and finishes, perfecting the design for maximum style and
comfort. It’s distinctive, organic leg
curvature is held together with mortise and tenon joints that use working
pegs. It’s available from 4 to 12 feet
long, though, as with all our products,
you can request custom specifications,
such as different lengths, wood inlays,
custom carving, or a different stencil!

Finishes
A furniture’s finish brings out the wood
grain, or gives the appearance of age, while protecting the surface. There’s an endless number of
combinations of wood, stain, paint, distress, lacquer, etc, that can be combined to make the wood
look just the way you want.
For a sturdy, new piece of furniture that
looks old, our faux finishes are hand painted and
distressed to create the kind of beautiful patina that
you’d normally find on antiques. Faux finishes can
also create the appearance of materials other than
wood, or just an unusual surface.
Sometimes you just want a fresh, clean coat
of paint in any color you can imagine, or any combination of colors. Just let us know what you want,
or, if you’re not sure, we’ll help you decide.
Stains and lacquers highlight the natural
beauty of the wood, bringing out the grain while
protecting the surface. Timeless and classic, our
stain finishes look great with, or without, some
distress added to the surface, making it look old
