Make sure to have suitable tools for unloading that can handle the weight and size of the Mat-Mate. Take care when handling the crated unit to avoid injury. The Mat-Mate is sold with a universal mounting adapter plate. Before attaching the Mat-Mate to the Power Unit, make sure that the mounting plate on the Mat-Mate is compatible with the Power Unit s attachment plate. Most newer Power Units have a universal mounting system. Some Power Units, mainly older machines, require a different adapter plate than the MatMate is sold with. Contact Superior Attachments for the correct attachment plate to fit your Power Unit. Follow these steps when attaching the Mat-Mate to the Power Unit: Make sure the Mat-Mate is on the parking stand and is set on a flat and level surface. Drive the Power Unit up to the Mat-Mate and couple up to the universal adapter plate. On Site Set-Up 3-2 ON SITE SET-UP Arrows indicate direction in which beam should be level when adapter plate on power unit is completely rolled back. Make sure the Mat-Mate s attachment plate is properly attached to the Power Unit attachment frame. Inspect the latching pins that hold the Implement to the Power Unit. Make sure they are in good condition. Check that they thoroughly engage the MatMate s attachment plate. When boom arm is in raised position, and the adapter plate is completely rolled back, a minimum clearance of six inches should be between the cab and the boom arm. This should be checked before operating the Mat-Mate. If a six inch clearance can not be obtained, contact your dealer. If proper clearance is not achieved, serious injury or death could occur from the Mat-Mate s boom arm moving back too far and striking the operator or cab. A minimum of 6 inches of clearance must be attainable between the boom arm and the cab of the power unit when the boom is all the way rolled back. DANGER! On Site Set-Up 3-3 ON SITE SET-UP Hydraulic couplers will need to be installed on the Mat-Mate. Because of various coupler designs on power units, the couplers are not included with the base purchase of the MatMate. Contact Superior Attachments Inc. or you local supplier with the style of coupler on the power unit. Note: An under pressure coupler is recommended for the male tip. When a male under pressure hydraulic coupler is used coupling up is easier. It is also recommended to coupler up to male end first. The Mat-Mate has ½ NPT hydraulic hose ends. Hook up the hydraulic lines and raise the boom arm up, making sure the parking sleeve and boom arm do not strike the cab or frame of the Power Unit. If the unit has clearance, no further adjustment of the wedges is necessary until a Power Unit with a different roll back angle is used. Cycle the Mat-Mate s boom arm up and down several times until the air is removed from the hydraulic system. Due to of different mattress and loader heights, the Mat-Mate s adapter plate has three different height settings. Chose the highest setting that allows the operator to keep the Power Unit s loader frame at it s lowest height and still allow the Mat-Mate s rotary broom to come in contact with the mattress. On Site Set-Up 3-4 OPERATION Operation 4-1 OPERATION OPERATORS REQUIREMENTS Safe operation of the Implement is the responsibility of a qualified operator. A qualified operator has read and understands both the Implement and power unit Operator Manuals and is experienced in the Implement and Power Unit operations and all associated safety practices. In addition to the safety messages contained in this manual, safety message decals are affixed to the implement and power unit. If any part of the operation and safe use of the implement and power unit is not completely understood, do not operate. Protective gear is recommended to prevent any personal injury while operating, servicing and repairing. POWER UNIT REQUIREMENTS The power unit used to operate the implement must have the capacity to lift and operate the Mat-Mate s hydraulic motor. Operating the Mat-Mate with a power unit that does not meet the following requirements may damage the power unit and implement and could become a potential danger to the operator and passersby. Power Unit Requirements and Capabilities ASAE approved Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) or ROPS cab and seat belt Auxiliary Hydraulics…………………….Mat-Mate must match the hydraulic output capacity of the power unit operating the implement. Hydraulic flow of 8-20 GPM at 2000 PSI and a lifting capacity of 1200 lbs. ROPS and Seat Belts A Roll-Over-Protective-Structure (ROPS) and seat belts are essential to protect the operator from falling off the power unit, especially during a roll over where the driver could be crushed and killed. The ROPS and seat belt must be used in conjunction with one another. Only operate the power unit with the ROPS in the raised position and seat belt fastened. Power units not equipped with a ROPS and seat belt should have these life saving features installed by an authorized dealer. Auxiliary Hydraulics The power unit must be equipped with auxiliary hydraulics and be rated for the hydraulic flow rating of the Mat-Mate. NOTE: All power units must be equipped with two-way circuit, auxiliary hydraulics. Operation 4-2 OPERATION Operation at the Stall When reading the set-up and operator s sections, refer to figures 1 thru 3 on pages 4-5 and 4-6 to aid in becoming familiar with the Mat-Mate. Caution must be taken when transporting the Mat-Mate. When the Mat-Mate is mounted to the Power Unit, check the clearance under the parking legs. Raise the unit high enough to clear any obstruction (curbs, concrete step-ups, mud etc) that the operator must maneuver over. Be aware of overhead obstructions and power lines! (Figure 3.) Drive the Power Unit to the stall area to be swept. Lower the boom arm by feathering the hydraulic valve so the boom arm lowers but the rotary broom remains stationary. Once the boom is lowered into the saddle of the mainframe (Figure 1), position the rotary brush so the close side of the brush hangs slightly over the curb. This allows the debris to be swept off the mattress as it is rotating. If the boom does not completely seat itself in the saddle, adjust the height of the Power Unit s loader frame. With the brush properly positioned, engage the rotary brush. To change the amount of down pressure of the brush on the mattress roll the adapter plate forward slightly. With the boom arm lowered into the stall, start rotation of the rotary brush and lock in the hydraulic controls on the Power Unit. This keeps the flow constant to the hydraulic motor. The operator should adjust the loader frame height so the brush makes contact with the mattress (Figure 1). Drive forward keeping the brush properly positioned. The operator should proceed forward at walking speed. When the operator reaches the end of the free stall row, the boom arm is then raised out of the stall and the operator can then proceed to the next stall area. Operation 4-3 OPERATION NOTE: If the rotary brush has too much down pressure the operator will hear a squealing sound. The sound occurs because of an over-load to the system. Over-loads can be corrected by slowing the Power Unit s forward speed and/or raising the brush off the mattress so the brush is engaging less. When the overload on the system is removed, the rotary brush will restart. When disconnecting from the Power Unit the Mat-Mate s boom arm must be lowered into its mainframe saddle. Lift the Mat-Mate high enough to set it on to its parking stand. The parking stand pin will slide into the bottom of the Parking sleeve. Parking Slee Parking Stan Once the Mat-Mate is in position, lower it onto the parking stand. Shut off the Power Unit and rock the auxiliary hydraulics lever to equalize the pressure in the Power Unit and the MatMate. Disconnect the hydraulic hoses and adapter plate. Operation 4-4 OPERATION Front View Hydraulic motor Adapter plate Curb Top View Parking legs Boom arm Rotary Broom Mainframe Operation 4-5 OPERATION Boom Arm Hydraulic Cylinder Mainframe Operation 4-6 MAINTENANCE Maintenance 5-1 MAINTENANCE Daily Maintenance Refer to the operator manual for decal location. Decals should be clean and readable. If at any time they are incomplete or missing, the decals should be replaced immediately. Check that the adapter plate is in good working condition. Grease the two grease fittings on boom pivot. Lubricate the attachment pins on the base and cylinder ends of the hydraulic cylinder with oil. Keep the end of the hydraulic fittings clean and clear of debris. It helps to couple the ends together if the Mat-Mate is disconnected from the Power Unit. Check for loose hardware. Maintain brushes and replace all worn parts. Inspect the hydraulic hoses and fittings for abrasions and leaks. Check hydraulic leaks with proper equipment. Maintenance 5-2 MAINTENANCE PROPER TORQUE FOR FASTENERS The chart lists the correct tightening torque for fasteners. When bolts are to be tightened or replaced, refer to this chart to determine the grade of bolt and the proper torque. The recommended torques are measured in foot pounds.
