This is an absolutely fantastic achievement. I remember when Jennifer first entered the sport, back in the early 1990s. We met when we were both doing our TPR course at the East Kurrajong Hall. From there Jennifer has gone on to become one of Australia’s best known and most loved endurance riders. Congratulations must also go to Graeme [GG], Jennifer’s husband. As every endurance rider knows, a good strapper is worth his or her weight in gold! Congratulations to both of them. Ed Above: Jennifer riding Gilbertson Blaxland. Interest and tempo is growing with the State Championships coming up with the Kilkavan Quilty shortly thereafter. Our thanks go to the Tamworth and District Endurance Club for hosting the State Championships at Manilla this year; entrants are in for a great weekend as this group always puts on an enjoyable, interesting event. This weekend also offers an opportunity to qualify for the Quilty three weeks later. The SMC is calling for nominations for the NSWERA Quilty teams, please get your nomination in for the opportunity to represent your state – not to mention the uniform provided from the great new range of clothing merchandise. We are also calling for a team coordinator for the event so if you are going to be there with a few free hours please submit an EOI. Good luck to all riders involved in these two great events and thank you to the organizers, officials, and volunteers that make these events possible. Project TQ15 to organise the running of the 50th Tom Quilty back home where it began in 2015 is under way with the subcommittee restructuring from feasibility and proposal focus to a project management and delivery team which is larger and wider based than the original team. We wish Neil and the team good luck for the task ahead. On the administrative front the Committee members are settling into their portfolio responsibilities; we have had a change of membership with Gay Bonham stepping down and being replaced by Gertraud Norton from the reserves, welcome Gertraud. We thank Gay for her many years of service; her work ethic, and wealth of talent and experience will be missed. Cheers, Tom NSW ERA COMMITTEE MEETINGS Meetings are usually held at the Arabian Society Rooms George Street, Windsor Meetings commence at 6.00pm sharp. All are invited to attend. Next meeting: Friday 17th May 2013. Richmond Club. NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 2 Track Preservation Report National Parks trails to be opened to horses – progress report Regional workplans and budgets for horse riding initiatives are currently being finalised by NPWS. Meanwhile we have seen the first real horse riding improvement after a year of words and promises. A new gate has been installed at Scheyville National Park in Sydney's north-west, finally resolving the problem of access to the horse float parking area on Scheyville Road. The old gate was narrow, with a tree in exactly the wrong spot, and nowhere to pull off the road while you opened/closed the gate. The new gate is recessed, wider and clear of trees. Draft Plans of Management All National Parks & Wildlife Service Plans of Management, both draft and finalised, can be viewed at the NPWS website at http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/parkmanagement/ ParkAndFireManagementPlansByCategory.htm Plans of management define if and where you are allowed to ride in a park. You can make submissions by post, email or directly from the website. A submission is simply your comments on the plan of management, whether agreeing or disagreeing with what is being proposed. Another two bad ones this time around. It is almost as though we are having so much success in some areas, they are trying to offset it by excluding us from others! Tabbimoble Swamp Nature Reserve – south-west of Evans Head. Horse riding not permitted. Submissions close 17 June 2013. Bargo River State Conservation Area – near Yerrinbool. Horse riding not permitted. There is a strong case for us to get this changed, as Bargo SCA across the road permits horse riding and there is a trail through Bargo River SCA which connects it to public land on the other side. Sydney's south-west is particularly limited in its riding opportunities because of the large extent of catchment areas, which do not impact this park. Submissions close 24 June 2013. Our AGM was held in February and the following people have been elected to the Zone; President – Gary Tweedie Vice president – Les Robinson Secretary – Alan Marshall Treasurer – Rowena Robinson Zone delegate – Gary Tweedie. Point score – Jenny Shepherd Rides for 2013 will be Wingello, Currawan, Sussex Inlet and Sassafras with Sassafras being the South Coast Zone Championships. Our first ride for the year was to be the Sassafras Training ride but due to weather event that weekend it had to be cancelled at the last minute. Alan is endeavouring to find another date to hold the training ride. Whilst we still have several rides in the area we have lost a few rides mainly due to the loss of ride bases and the committees to run them. As is the case in other areas for the State we are witnessing a decline in membership and a decline in participation at some of our South Coast rides. Some rides have become unviable to run with the loss or suitable ride bases, the escalating costs of running a ride and poor participation numbers. The Zone is lucky to still have several generous sponsors that support us giving some rides the hope of continuing. On a brighter note, the small committee is keen to keep the Zone running and we will be looking at how we can invigorate the South Coast area. Finally, I must thank Belinda Hopley for representing the Zone at SMC last year, Belinda kept the membership well informed on the goings on at SMC level. I also wish thank our outgoing newsletter editor, Bernie La France. Bernie did a terrific job for many years compiling and producing the south coast zone newsletter. I’m sure it will be missed by our members. Animal Focus NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 6 Horsley Park Trainer HORSELY PARK PROMOTIONAL ENDURANCE RIDE - SATURDAY 9TH MARCH 2013 Article submitted by Eileen McILwain Endurance riding is a growing sport in Australia, with equestrians from a variety of disciplines getting bitten by the endurance bug. Exploring some of the most beautiful country Australia has to offer on horseback while mingling with a bunch of like-minded people is certainly appealing! There’s a lot more to endurance than just riding really, really far. Top riders spend weeks preparing their horses in the lead up to an event, evaluating recovery rates after training sessions and calculating the nutritional content of feed rations to ensure their horse is in peak physical condition. Successfully completing an endurance ride takes just as much skill as tackling a cross country course or executing the perfect dressage test. When people think of endurance the image that springs to mind is a proud Arabian, nostrils flared and tail streaming behind them like a banner. But Australian Stock Horses, Standardbreds, Appaloosas and athletic equines from many different breeds are also competing at top level. Most people starting out simply use whatever horse they have. The Australian Endurance Riders Association (AERA) is big on encouraging newcomers to the sport and many events offer shorter distances such as 10km Introductory Rides and 20km Social Rides. Horses in regular work are usually able to complete a 20km Social Ride without any trouble. These shorter distances give both horse and rider the opportunity to see what endurance is all about in a fun, friendly environment. One such event was the Horsely Park Training Ride which was held at Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) on Saturday the 9th of March. The main event was a 20km Social Ride with the option to elevate to a 40km Training Ride. The ride was organised by Charlie Gauci, one of the many volunteers for Zone 1 Endurance Riders Inc. A total of 94 riders seized the opportunity Below: Ivy Sullivan and Destiny Springs Red Rocket with Karen Mitchell and Bailey Photo: Animal Focus NSW Endurance News May—June Page No. 7 to ride through the picturesque cross country course and surrounding West Sydney Parklands and Calmsley Hill City Farm. The grass dressage arena was transformed into an endurance hub with organisers, vets and competitors milling around. After filling out the entry forms, riders were asked to present their horse for the pre-ride veterinary examination. Each horse is assessed on heart rate, metabolics and soundness to ensure they are fit to begin the ride. Animal welfare is a top priority at every event. The motto of endurance is “to complete is to win” and riders focus on their horse’s wellbeing rather than being first across the line. Once the vets gave the thumbs up, the riders proceeded to the starting line. Above: Eileen Rawlinson and Aloha Arctic Opal enjoy a break in the shade. Photos: Animal Focus It was a beautiful autumn day with glorious sunshine and clear skies. The ride began with an exhilarating lap around the race track, then it was off to the cross country course. It was incredible to ride past the enormous Olympic jumps – some of them were the size of cars! Volunteers manned the various checkpoints, giving directions and keeping track of each rider’s progress. Large buckets of water were positioned at regular intervals around the course to give horses the opportunity to drink. Keeping your horse hydrated is a crucial part of endurance, but some equines are less cooperative than others. As the saying goes: you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink! The temperature began to climb and so did the horses as they continued into the hilly country surrounding SIEC. Cresting the first hill, riders were treated to a spectacular view of the plains stretching all the way to the horizon. Competitors then made their way across the undulating parklands before threading their way through the bush. At the end of the first 20kms riders could decide to finish or elevate to the 40km Training Ride. Of the 94 starters, 29 riders went on to successfully do 40kms, while 45 riders were content to call it a day after 20kms. Not everyone made it through however, with 8 riders choosing to withdraw even though their horses passed the veterinary examination. There were a total of 12 “vet outs” with 10 horses vetting out on heart rate, 1 horse vetting out on metabolics and 1 horse vetting out lame. The overall completion rate was 78% which is an excellent result. Of course, events like this are only possible with the help of volunteers and sponsors. The ride was generously supported by the NSW Endurance Riders Association (NSWERA), the Arabian Horse Society of Australia (AHSA), Zone One Right: Kevin Sayer and Fabio with Georgia Curry and Macquarie Park Banjo NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 8 Endurance Riders Inc, Edinburgh Horse Rugs, CopRice, Turingal Park Arabians (Camille Alexander) and Hills & Hawkesbury Equestrian News. Both days offered a 20km and 40km ride, taking in the beautiful country side that Bumbaldry has to offer. Eighty two riders set off on Saturday enjoying the afternoon sun, Sunday followed with 57 riders, making the most of the cooler temperatures of the morning, some of these riders had already ridden on Saturday but wanted or needed more. The weekend welcomed a lot of new faces to the sport of endurance riding, with riders enjoying the 20km social ride, some even stepping up to try the 40km event, with a great completion rate and a lot of fun on both trails and in camp. We hope these new faces now become familiar on the endurance trails. Anyone new to the sport or local whom would like to become a member of our club; can contact any of us committee members and we can pass on information about our meetings, riding weekends, LERC rides etc. Send any enquiries to Helen at [email protected]. Our website has some brilliant information also www.lerc.com. Those who have enjoyed an endurance ride or two in the past, travelled from near and far to make use of a brilliant weekend to train their up and coming mounts. Both days were considered highly educational for young horses and great contributor to horse and rider fitness for the start of the year. Congratulations to riders who completed and commiserations to those who did not. We would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to the property owners in Bumbaldry who allowed us to access their property and water. Without their wonderful support this ride would not have been possible. A massive thank you also to our sponsors. Lachlan Fertilisers Cowra. Bunnings Warehouse Cowra. Geronimo Farm Equipment. Kintamani Arabians Cowra, Computers Inc Cowra. Tom and Louise McCormack. Massive thanks to Su Mackay for the use of her paddock to support and home our ride base. Thanks also to Back Creek Metal Signs who hand made our 4 encouragement awards which were given both days, they were greatly appreciated and a brilliant design. Our committee has received some wonderful feedback in regards to our weekend at Bumbaldry and hope that we will see the same friendly faces, together with their friends, in future at one of our LERC weekends. Hopefully after our next meeting we can cement a date for an annual ride at Bumbaldry. We hope to then run 20/40/80km events. On behalf of LERC I would like to take the opportunity to say thanks to everyone who made this weekend possible. In the future we will be seeking sponsorship and help by way of volunteers in support of our ‘not for profit’ organisation. Our sport relies heavily on community help, we in turn try to support our local community. Tina Walker ~ Course Coordinator Bumbaldry. Photo Credits ~ Kathy Richards, Tina Walker. I must say, as with all rides and being on an organising committee it was hectic, but such a wonderful weekend for the first 80km event for the NSW calendar in 2013. It was lovely to see so many old faces and lots of new comers to our sport. To the many people who contributed to our ride by way of sponsorship or who helped out as volunteers, there are too many to list individually - THANK YOU ALL!! Thank you to all our checkpoint and gate sitters, the office crew and time keepers. Emily Streckfuss and her lovely team of vets did a superb job, with Sean Pollard our Chief Steward heading up our TPR’s: Steve Broadbent, Kim Hagon, Dean Walkom and Lynn Dillon. To the extended Dillon family - Brad, Lynn, Leo, Luke, Rachel and Ben; without you all we would not have a ride, so thank you. Gil Stevenson helped create our new course and was responsible for implementing the spring loaded gates - as a rider (I also rode the 40km) thanks, it saved me getting off my horse many times - great idea! Our local Horse Welfare group ran the canteen for the weekend, lovely food; the butter chicken on Saturday night was superb. Thanks to Glen Hewitt for working the entire weekend in either the ride office or time keeping, you are wonderful. A huge pat on the back must go to Sue Walkom for organising all the computer work for the ride and post ride reports. As this was the first 80km ride in NSW to use the new computer program, and Sues first solo attempt at being the computer guru on the day of the ride it was a challenging task that was met with great determination and we managed to get through it by the end. NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 16 The committee would also like to make special mention to Jessica Taylor (Bonham) for being in constant telephone contact with us over the weekend to help trouble shoot the few computer issues we faced – Jess, you are a star! The Flat Tops Rural Fire Brigade helped cart water around the course over the weekend and the Williams Valley Endurance Riders Club is happy to be able to contribute a nice donation to help support this small local unit as a result of our ride. OK, to the ride……we opened up the ride base from Friday lunch time, with lots of people taking advantage and arriving early. With plenty of shade trees and open spaces to park and set up camp it was a relaxing way to get the weekend started. Gil and Brad created a fantastic course this year with some new properties to ride through and very minimal tar, only about 4km in total I think. The views were beautiful and the weather was kind to us on the day which was a bonus. We had some lovely rain the weeks leading up to the ride which helped to soften tracks and ensure plenty of natural water around the course. We had 123 riders and horses participate in the weekend, with 55 entries in the 80km; 6 Junior, 13 Lightweight, 22 Middleweight and 14 Heavyweight. We were fortunate to have generous sponsorship and had Rugs for 1st place and Best Conditioned showcasing the sponsor’s names and our bold black and orange club logo. These looked fantastic and I am sure we will see these horses proudly wearing their rugs at coming rides. Best Condition results are as follows. Junior - Macquarie Park Shafeeq, ridden by Georgia Curry Light Weight - Kerewong Shelfyre ridden by Anne Hills Middle Weight - TTH Headliner ridden by Thomas Herman Heavy Weight - Halimas Efdikam ridden by Gary Pevy There were 44 riders in the 40km event with many experienced horse and rider combinations taking advantage of an early ride in the calendar and a lovely new course to get their horses ready for the 2013 season riding season, along with many new faces and some junior riders attempting their first 40km training ride. It was great to see lots of families out riding together this year. Caps or trophies were handed out as successful completion prizes and I too was fortunate to have a NSW Endurance News May—June Page No. 17 successful completion on a new young mare and have a lovely cap to show for our efforts at the ride. 24 were entered in the 20km social ride. It was fantastic to see so many local riders come along and support the ride and enjoy the atmosphere of an Endurance Event. Many enjoyed the course and are keen to step up to the 40km next year so we are happy to help nurture these NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 18 new comers along to grow our members. Thanks to all the experienced riders who offered assistance to these new people over the weekend we had some great feedback of the support that was shown. A big thank you to all riders and their support crews for leaving the ride base in perfect condition. Buckles will be presented to all successful competitors and of course there will be some novelty prizes still to be decided by our club president and Head Vet, Kym Hagon. A beautiful handcrafted stock whip donated by Ken Frazer on a mounting plate donated by Paul & Ted Taylor will be presented to fastest time. The Tailender award will again be sponsored by Equitales Braided Horsehair Jewellery. In conjunction with the marathon, there will be an 80km no frills ride. This ride will be held on Sunday, travelling the same course as the final day of the marathon, with a 5km loop to make up the distance to 80km. All riders in the 80km ride must leave the ride base at 4.00am. The course traverses some very scenic country, mostly through private property with magnificent views and is suitable for novice horses. Both vet checks for this ride will be at the Manilla show ground ride base. Buckles will be presented to successful competitors. And just so we cater for everyone, there will also be a 35km training ride which will leave the ride base a little bit later and travel the same leg as the final leg for the marathon ride. The ride will again be conducted on the eastern side of the Pacific Highway, with the ride base located at the Kundabung Hall in River Rd Kundabung. The Hall provides a great venue with an inside canteen, good camping and flushing toilets! The ride base is located adjacent to the Northern railway line and this is taken into consideration at all times, with no problems encountered in previous years. We have extended the camping area within the ride base and again have access to Ron & Marilyn Urban’s paddock across the road for additional campsites. Firewood will be provided but please bring your own (human) drinking water. The usual canteen will be operating with great “take away” food and sit down meals in the hall. The track will be similar to the past two years, starting through private property for a kilometre or so before travelling through the Maria State Forest and Maria National Park. Almost the entire track is situated within the State Forest and National Park travelling along great forest trails. We are hoping to gain access to some additional tracks this year to enable more variety between each leg. There are no big hills with a maximum elevation of only 90 metres throughout the entire course, providing mostly flat going over forest trails which are excellent under foot. The ride is dual affiliated with Queensland and we are looking forward to seeing our neighbouring Northern Rivers riders again this year. 80km, 40km (trainer) & 20km (social) rides will be conducted. Buckles are awarded for all 80km completions and there are best conditioned awards in all 4 divisions. To get to the base, turn east off the Pacific Highway onto Kundabung Rd opposite the (former) Kundabung Motel and follow the tar road for a short distance through the small village of Kundabung, across the railway line to the Kundabung Hall. Cobark is a rural community located in a fertile valley bordered by the Barrington Tops, our slice of the high country; 3 hours north of Sydney, 2 ¼ hours north of Newcastle and a 1 ½ hours west of Taree. Whilst the area is renowned for steep hilly country, the ride will be run mainly over the gentle sloping parts of the valley with the more rugged country providing a spectacular backdrop. The course will be a mixture of dirt roads, paddocks and farm tracks and forest trails, with a number of shallow river crossings. The rivers are a feature of the area, pristine, crystal clear water with rock pools and cascades. The course will follow sections of the Cobark, Barrington, Kerripit and Bowman Rivers. There are no bitumen roads. An introductory ride of 20 km and an intermediate ride of 40 km, extendable to 60 km (elevator) will be held along with the 80 km endurance ride on the Sunday. Since the ride is 2 weeks before Shahzada, either the 40 – 60 km elevator or the 80 km endurance ride will be an ideal leg up. NSW Endurance News May—June Page No. 31 Vale Betty Wade Many people in endurance would have met Betty Wade (Meg's mum) at some of the rides she went to with the Castlebar Team. Without fail she would manage to charm them all with her interest in all that was going on and with her warm, caring nature. Betty was always on for a chat and we would have many people calling in to say hello to her whenever she was at a ride. Within the Castlebar camp she was legendary for having all sorts of wonderful food tucked away in containers that she'd bring out during the course of the ride as well as her healthy snacks. At the rides Betty would be busy pottering around camp, getting meals ready for us, cleaning up afterwards and always on hand with encouragement and positiveness. She also had a very keen sense of humour. Betty was a very surprising person when you learnt about her background. She grew up to be an exceptional theatre nurse in her home town of Broken Hill and had to fight a legal battle to be able to leave the town and further her studies in Sydney. She nursed in Queensland in a rural area working with many of the indigenous people. Unfortunately she caught tuberculosis and this illness ended her career but not her joie de vivre for life. Betty met her husband Bill and together they built up a very successful company and Betty became a mum, took on looking after the cattle and farm and became a board member of the company. All of which she did very successfully. A favourite story that I've heard from family is that she was busy marking the young cattle (dressed in surgical whites and gloves) when she realised she should have been at a board meeting. Off she dashed to get changed, popped back into the cattle yard in her silk outfit to check that things were being done properly and then sped into town at a rate of knots to the board meeting. Having spent a lot of time with Betty when Meg was in the Epworth Hospital recovering from her serious fall at Tumbarumba ride I am especially saddened at Betty's passing. Betty dropped everything in her life and moved herself down to Melbourne to be by Meg's side through every step of the recovery process. She spent every day with Meg and gave her as much support as possible. Her devotion to her three daughters and the gracious way in which she lived her life is a tribute to Betty. The world is a little less bright now that she has passed on and she will be very sorely missed by all at Castlebar. Minutes of the first meeting have been distributed. Today they met with the new manager (Bill) at Del Rio. Whatever was discussed with Stuart still stands. We would then pay the deposit on receiving approval from the AERA. Charlie suggested that Tom McCormack write up a set of conditions for lodgment of the deposit. Dogs on leads will be allowed but they must remain on a lead and not taken into cabins. There have been a few issues with the TQ15 subcommittee; Gay has submitted a verbal resignation from the TQ15 Executive. In camera took place after which it was agreed that the TQ15 sub-committee would review the situation and return to the next SMC meeting in April with a plan for the way ahead. Charlie said we now have a proposed Logo for the TQ15. It is the first Quilty winner. The discussion on this matter ended at 7.05pm and Ron Males, Charlie Gauci and Neil Clarkson left the meeting. Membership Growth Project Marlee said she sent out an email on this. We need to get a package together for people who want to do promotions at events. Essentially she suggested a small card which could be stapled to riders pink cards. It would contain details of the organization and how to contact us. Pink cards are usually for day members. The back of the pink card is blank. We could add our details to this when we need to print new cards. Suggested either arm bands or a sash which would denote experienced people so that inexperienced people know who they could consult at a ride. Suggestion the Chief Stewards should speak to new riders, advising them what they need to do after they have completed a ride. New riders may not know that they need to vet etc. Tom Mc suggested that this subcommittee could use the teleconference facility. They would cut down the need to discuss things at a SMC meeting. Teleconferencing is not expensive. Tom Mc will give the details to Marlee. NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 36 EA Affiliation. (Background notes circulated on 17th Feb) Tom Mc brought the meeting up to date on what is currently proposed by the EA with regard to endurance riding. Advised what the deal was and what the current proposal is and why the last proposal was rejected. There is now an amendment on the table for consideration. Tom Mc gave a detailed background to the negotiations with EA. In Summary, if we don’t sign, Tom Mc said he did not know where we would stand. Tom Mc said he recommended that we go with the second option below. We have two options. Support for the $8,000. On a show of hands - unanimously against this. The second option: $4,000 if sponsorship is forthcoming. Agreement by majority at this meeting to support this if there is sponsorship forthcoming. Election of SMC executive (Charlie Gauci). Charlie said he had this put on the Agenda for discussion at this meeting. He gave his view on how the SMC is elected at an AGM. The last 5 AGMs have all been the same when it comes to voting for the executive. It seems to become quite an issue the way it has been done. He suggested that the executive be elected at the next NSW SMC ie. the first SMC meeting after the AGM. Charlie gave a brief outline of what went on with the voting at the Manilla AGM. Approximately 80% of the people around the table had no idea what was going on. This happens constantly when new people are elected. They should not have to pick their leaders for the next year without knowing any of the players involved. Charlie suggests that the executive not be elected at the AGM. Do it at the next SMC meeting. Everyone who wants to stand for an executive position should nominate 7 days before that meeting. This would give people time to collect votes and to plan and other people to work out who is who and decide who to vote for. This is just a procedure that can be changed. Those who are currently in the executive positions at the time of the AGM, would stay on in a caretaker role until after the next SMC meeting. Tom P said he had a meeting with Jeff Slatter from Sport and Recreation. Jeff is concerned that we don’t use postal voting etc. Tom P said that our governance person might like to discuss this with Jeff from Sport and Rec. Charlie said he feels that five proxy votes are too many. The way our Constitution currently reads, you need 75% of the membership – not 75% of the people at the meeting – to get anything passed. This needs to be changed. Tom P disagreed with Charlie’s interpretation of the 75% rule. Charlie spoke about SIAC – Horsley Park. Arabian Society sponsorship, as endurance – they feel that we are a minority group. This includes the Quilty. This comment is coming from the Arabian Society committee. Grants. (Background notes circulated 16th Feb) We are getting $6,500 pa. We need to do the report and lodge it and we get our final money in June. They are redefining the application process and we will be advised in due course. 2012 grant is $14,900. This ended at the end of 2012. We have been granted an extension of time until the end of June to use what remains of this money – if we have projects on hand we need to get them done. Tom Mc feels that we can make good use of this money. Tom Mc referred back to the AGM minutes in which the financial reports are shown. Worked through the allocation of the 2012 money and what to do with the possible loss for the year. Are we happy to accept the $8,000 loss. We are not broke. We have $87,000 in the bank. We passed a motion some time ago that we maintain $50,000 in the bank. Agreement by those present to go with and accept the $8000 loss. Social Ride Affiliation fees. Casey said she had been looking at the fees charged for social rides. The amount of money that the RO gets is a lot less than from trainers and endurance rides. After affiliation fees and vet fees are paid there isn’t enough left over to run a successful ride. Speaking on 25 per riders per vet. Marlee said that these training weekends are really good for encouraging new members. There is too much going on at the Q60 to assist new riders and members. Question remains: how are we going to make ends meet? Tom Mc said we will run at a loss this year and if so, we will need to revisit all of our activities next year. We could have a debate about affiliation fees at that time. Portfolio allocation. Marlee advised that she had discussions portfolios with some members and received comment from others in compiling the projected list. She asked if anyone had any comments on the portfolios they had been allocated. None were forthcoming. Bank account signatures. MOVED Greg Moore, Emma McCormack THAT the signatories to the bank account be amended to be any two of Tom McCormack, Tom Perkins or Marlee Turnbull Carried Unanimous Membership numbers for year to date: Senior: 248 Junior: 14 Intermediate: 13 Associate: 18 Honorary: 6 Total 299. I have already contacted the Dept of Fair Trading and the forms have been lodged to change the role of public officer to myself. The details of the new class of Intermediate Membership has also been lodged. Thank you to Tom Perkins for hopping in with so much practical help. Tom and I are going to get together soon to wade through the boxes of files and assorted documentation to decide upon what can be archived or possibly discarded. The ride calendar is in good shape. The main thing to approve Friday night will be the new St. Albans ride that has moved back a week to avoid Woodstock. Buchan in Victoria have asked to dual affiliate with NSW, but as it's the same weekend as Canberra at Brookvale. This could be a problem and will require input from Steve Roberts and Snowy Zone. The NSW ERA 2012 AGM was conducted in Manilla as part of an educational weekend on 2nd February 2013, hosted by the Tamworth & District Endurance Club; three days of workshops and information and training sessions. Hands down, the ‘best ever’ rating is clearly theirs. Our thanks go to the club and, in particular, Gay Bonham and her extended, hard working family. Committee elections were conducted and outgoing members Gary Tweedie, Kerry Spratt, and Carol Griffiths were thanked for a job well done and we welcomed new members Emma McCormack, Greg Moore, and Marylou Locke; and reaffirmed Belinda Hopley, and Gay Bonham into new terms. Marlee Turnbull will be our new face at the AERA table, replacing Gary Tweedie. 2013 will be a challenging year for NSWERA with the launch of project TQ15 for the 50th anniversary of the Quilty in 2015, managed by an SMC subcommittee; the launch of our new membership category for short distance riding that will, hopefully, broaden the appeal for our sport; and a sub-committee to be formed for a project to target membership growth during 2013. In the weekend following the AGM we were well represented at NP&W workshops at Kulnura and Scone where horse access to specific National Park Trails was detailed and prioritized. What can we say? 'Thank you Fiona!' seems all too little for the hours, work, and effort she has expended on our behalf. Cheers, Tom. Tom McCormack – Treasurer, AERA Invoices for approval P&L Tom Mc once again referred to the figures presented to the AGM. We are up $16,000 at this point in time. We will have bills coming in one of which will be an insurance bill from the AERA. Question on merchandise: what margin of profit and what do we charge for freight? Marlee suggested 10%. Probably more important to get our branding out there rather than make a profit. Belinda Hopley – There are new CS/TPR procedures. *CS – Briefly the changes are: The applicant must act as Assistant CS at 3 separate affiliated endurance rides, preferably under 3, but at least 2 - different accredited Chief NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 38 Stewards. Once the SMC has approved the CS Candidate’s progress to this point, all documents are forwarded to the AERA Chief Steward for final assessment and accreditation and an oral exam relating to people management skills and ability to act calmly and think laterally in difficult situations. To maintain accreditation a CS must officiate at least one affiliated endurance ride every 24 months and can regain accreditation by officiating at one affiliated endurance ride under an accredited Chief Steward *TPR – is just being tweaked (retaining accreditation) as we speak. It is up to the Ride CS to ensure the TPR is satisfactory if they have lapsed. Please remember to add the TPR’s and Vets to the volunteers’ list (with the Ride Sec) to be covered for insurance purposes. Please also be aware that a Training ride that is 4060K must have a standard 1hr vet check RuleA16.1. In the 2012 Rule add-ons, Elevator Ride rules 19.2.1 “Training rides that are designated as elevator rides must be a minimum distance of 40k and a max of 65k and comprise 2 or more legs”. Horse WelfareThanks Gay for a great AGM. By all accounts the extras were great. Due to travel commitments I was only able to attend the Large Animal Rescue presentation and thought it was great. It promoted long discussion on the trip home, and gave us all lots to think about. I would urge all horse owners and handlers to get a travel plan in place (have emergency numbers in phone, 1st aid kit, blanket etc). “Equine Emergency Rescue” details are on the Queensland Horse Council Home page. I would also like to strongly urge everyone to have a fire plan after the recent very high fire dangers across the state. Chelsea Kramer is a vet from Coffs Harbour who is willing to travel outside Zone 6 to help at rides. New recommended fees for vets for 2013 (and on the website): 80 km ride $590 + GST; 120 km ride $660 + GST; 160 km ride $820 + GST; Marathon $425 + GST per day for endurance accredited vets. Non accredited vets will be 75% of the accredited vet fee. Vets may only be paid the GST providing that they supply a tax invoice. Haydn Fisher No EW at this stage. He would like letterhead so that he can send letters if necessary. The Secretariat should generate a report each week and email to Haydn. Greg Moore Chief Stewards are up to date. Vets are up to date. Snowy have been very good sending things. Please don’t send anything in PDF form. Please send as a Word document. If sending a photo – do not send large ones as in 9 gig as these will need be resized. Marylou Locke – Zone 6 The Zone has five rides this year. Two new ones. Hoping to run a 40 next year at Bulladelah. We have a pointscore running. Zone 1 – Casey Holtom – Zone One has had its AGM. Had our first event for the year with 124 entries at our training weekend. Ran a TPR school. We have had a very large increase in council fees. Q60 coming up. We have a date for St Albans. Putty will be our Zone One championship ride. Trying to promote the sport to new comers. Did some flyers and used arm bands at our ride. Facebook page going well. Had someone allocated for meeting and greeting newbies. Zone 4- Steve Roberts – Dispute Resolution & Disciplinary Process amendments The Zone AGM was held on 9 February,. The ACTERA offered to host the Zone Championship ride on the October long weekend, in conjunction with Zone helpers, as has been done the last 2 years at Coolamon & The Rock. This has proven to be a successful way of spreading the workload, with the host club providing everything to do with the course & the Zone people doing the rest such as ride administration. Profits are split between the groups. The course will be 120km, possibly an elevator from 100km, in 4 legs, with a stand-alone no-frills 80km event, plus a trainer & possibly introductory ride. A meeting to discuss further details has already been held to develop track ideas. These schools need to be sanctioned by the NSW SMC prior to the running of the event. Organisers should not run schools without discussing it first with the NSW SMC. Kurrajong Event Greg said there is a person in our local area who is training a horse from inside the vehicle. She has also been observed training a horse which is running free up the Comleroy Road, Kurrajong while she is riding another horse behind it. This person is an endurance rider and she has been spoken to in the past. If she pays her membership and becomes a member of NSW ERA, she would need to be advised that her insurance would be wiped. If she becomes a member she could be warned. Code of conduct paragraph was read from the rule book. Tom Mc welcomed Casey, Emma and Marylou to the SMC. There being no further business the meeting closed at 10.30 pm A training course on the operation of the new database will be conducted soon by Jessica Taylor; invitations to attend will be extended to other clubs in southern NSW. The course will be held on a weekend at the Weston Club which should make attendance easier for more people. Ride dates - some dates were jostled around this year to fit around the State Championships in Manilla and the Quilty in Queensland, and there is the new (20 and 40 km) ride at Bumbaldry near Cowra. The track is varied like those at the Shahzada with a bit through paddocks, some bush tracks, some steep bits etc. The Lachlan Valley Endurance Club has leased the state forest (apparently a couple of thousand hectares) that the ride will be mostly held in, for this purpose and for future rides (up to possibly 160 km) for the next few years. So this is excellent news and will mean that there will be a new ride on the ride calendar to compensate for the loss of Tumbarumba. The club there has sadly been dissolved and its assets dispersed. Business Arising from Previous Minutes and Action sheet Belinda commented on the running of TPR schools. Andrew Mackinder collects his winnings at the Horsley Park Trainer. NSW Endurance News May—June Page No. 43 Q60 Q60 ENDURANCE RIDE – SUNDAY 14TH APRIL 2013 Article submitted by Eileen McILwain The competition was fierce at the Q60 Endurance Ride which took place in the stunning bushland surrounding the Upper Colo Reserve. Almost fifty horses and riders accepted the invitation to ride 100kms of the original Quilty course, but in the end it came down to two riders – Tom Bouzianis and Andrew Mackinder. Tom’s horse was none other than Conderosa Zeus, the 8 year old purebred Arabian gelding he placed 4th on at the Shahzada 400km Marathon last year. Andrew was riding his faithful mare Sundown Park Cariad, a 10 year old Anglo- Arabian who has taken Andrew to victory ten times over the last two years in the Junior division. Their most notable wins include a 160km FEI*** and two 160km State Championships. Tom and Andrew were neck and neck as they crossed the bridge over the Colo River, but declared a tie by holding hands across the finish line. Andrew and Cariad also won the highly coveted “Best Conditioned” (BC) award which is judged on speed, weight carried, and veterinary scores. The pair have won 10 BC awards since they formed their partnership. It’s an exciting start to Andrew’s first season in the Open Division after his success as a Junior. I caught up with the quiet 18 year old to find out more about the Q60. So Andrew, that was a heart stopping finish! How did you and Tom end up tied after 100kms? It was about halfway through the second leg as Tom passed me, and I ended coming in a few minutes after them off the second leg. When it was time to go back out on the third leg, I passed Joint winners of the 100 klm event at Colo. Andrew Mackinder riding Sundown Park Cariad and Tom Bouzianis riding Conderosa Zeus. NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 44 him just outside camp. He tailed me for a bit then we rode side by side the whole way, and as soon as we came back across the bridge we galloped all the way to the walk zone, and seeing there was no finish line, we decided to come in together. How did you feel presenting Sundown Park Cariad for the final veterinary inspection? Pretty relaxed, it was hot but I wasn’t worried. Dad was there to help strap so I knew everything was under control. Endurance is a tough sport. What was the biggest challenge you had to deal with on the day? I’ll be honest, getting out of bed is always hard for me, but apart from that probably just the heat. It was a pretty hot day and the forecast was 19 degrees, so it was a bit unexpected, but at the end of day Mackinder Endurance always comes prepared for all weather so it was manageable. What were some of the highlights of the Q60 endurance ride? Definitely the gallop finish. I’ve never seen that mare go so quickly, it was honestly unbelievable to ride 100km and then to put so much effort and speed into the last 500m. It was just insane. You’ve been competing in endurance since you were 14 years old. Any tips for people who want to get started in the sport? Always try to have fun, and make the most out of every moment there is. Of course, events like this are only possible with the help of volunteers and sponsors. The ride was organised by Greg Moore, one of the many volunteers for Zone 1 Endurance Riders Inc. The event received generous support from the following sponsors: Agnes Banks Equine Clinic; Animal Focus – Jo Arblaster (photographer); Conderosa Arabians; Hawkesbury Equine Veterinary Care; Hidez – Animal Compression Suits; Joint Performance ; Keeden Contracting; Proforge – Rodney Brazil (farrier); Sydney Equestrian Supplies; Tallawudjah Arabians. The committee would like to change the vetting from Gate into Hold to standard AERA vetting but with early present. Spoken to Kym and Stuart who have agreed that this should work. Kym is still insisting on a compulsory represent after the third leg. There will be an away vet check. Entry fee reduced to $280.00. AGM – Intermediate Membership Discussion paper previously sent out by Tom Perkins. Need to keep the motion for the Intermediate Membership purely relating to the membership. Carol is going to the AGM and has started on a presentation. This has been passed by the AERA at first reading. It will be back to the next meeting and it will be retrospective if passed. IDP Pack Tom Perkins had a paper on this and stated that there were a few minor changes to the paper sent out previously. He went on to discuss these. Mainly revolved around any possible ‘conflict of interest’. Paper was passed around with the changes highlighted. MOVED THAT Carried Gay Bonham, Greg Moore the IDP pack as presented be accepted. Unanimous Horse Health Declarations This was sent out previously by Tom Perkins. This came from the AERA: Motion reads: That all horses participating in endurance rides in Australia are required to complete a horse health declaration form until further notice and provide it to the ride organizer at the point of entry. WA yes, Qld yes, Tas yes, Vic no, SA no, NSW no. CARRIED. NEW RULE FOR 2013. This was discussed at length with the following motion eventually put. MOVED THAT Carried Gay Bonham, Greg Moore to comply with the Health Declaration request Steve Roberts will assist with the wording for NSW entry forms Unanimous Membership Growth Project If we get a new grant, we should set up some sort of reporting criteria. Tom P said in the new one it’s a 50/50 contribution. The earlier grants allowed travel and accommodation. The new application doesn’t. Tom P said that if we want to build a promotion – this new one will provide money for resources, DVDs etc, possibly cover appearance money for someone to go and do a demonstration but won’t cover their travel expenses. If we could identify any money left in the earlier grants – could we carry it over? Greg said that we don’t know what’s been spent so we don’t know what’s left. Greg suggests we don’t open any more doors on the past. If we get another grant, we should start again and devise a suitable accounting plan for the future. NSW ERA Legal Advisor A letter was sent to Steve Finnane over four months ago but we did not get a response. It was sent to Mr Finnane’s Chambers in the city. Suggests that we take everything to the AGM, put $10 on the articles and sell at the AGM. Aim not to bring any items back. Agreement on Life members – Those who want to ride need to apply for a membership card on receipt of a membership application. We need Neil to print off ‘Intermediate’ level cards. Approval duly given. John Howe – Ride calendar To date the calendar for 2013 is filling rapidly, a good sign of a healthy sport. Ride Organisers to a large degree are now following the guidelines very well, there is, of course, the odd swap around and Organisers who want us "to pencil" dates in. However, this is no longer the problem that it was. With the need to promote and grow the sport, I'm pleased to see Tom's proactive stance re these important tasks over the next 3 years, esp as T.Q 15 is approaching at a rate of knots .I can only assume that the 2014 State Champs will probably be run on the proposed T.Q 15 course, this will bring home to us how 2 and a half years can slip away. To this end I would love to be fully involved in any and all endeavors to increase the membership of our sport and to promote Endurance riding in all it's forms, from Training rides to Shahzada.I feel that it's about 9.00 p.m. and it's time for us as a management committee to get going. Ride Application bookings received. St. Albans 80/40/20 – 22.9.2013 – alternate 28.7.2013. 14 klm too short towards Woodstock but on the alternative weekend they would be running against Bago. Currowan Endurance (Nilligen) Zone 5 - 29/30 June – alternate 6/7 July – 80/40/20. There is a very limited window to hold this event. Approved. Zone 2 Championships at Windeyer on 19/20th October. Meets the current criteria. It is a week after Putty. Approved providing Charlie doesn’t have a problem with the date. Email from Tall Timbers. They have just received approval from VERA. Running on 27th April. This is the day before Gundagai. NSW is not able to dual affiliate. With TQ15 coming up it will be one of the best things we can use to get more interested in the sport. . Tom Perkins –President, Google Maps, Governance, Procedures. Procedures Report - There have been no updates in 2012 for the Governance Manual which is now prominent on the web site and will be kept up to date there; so I will not be producing individual copies for distribution to the SMC this year. The Motions and minutes file will be brought up to date and copies distributed to the new SMC at the meeting following the AGM. Marlee Turnbull – Vice President, AERA , Zone Liaison, Child Protection Officer Facebook coming along nicely. Over 500 likes. Merchandise is underway. One set of men’s, women’s and kids clothing ordered. Cap or beanie option also available. Discussing types of hats or caps. With promotions we should be looking to who will be on the new committee. Small Farms Day at Hawkesbury showed that we need a kit for promotions. Agree on items that can go around to this type of event. We should get a subcommittee together and work on it and see if there is grant money available. Gay said Bec Hogan is running a Getting Started in Endurance event. She needed insurance. Sonya wants more ‘Getting started in Endurance’ printed. Sonya can forward this to Marlee. She would like something to send out to new members. Belinda offered to help with this. Equitana and Small Farms Expo you need some sort of demonstration. It’s a very hard thing to do. Discussing subsidized vet fees. Should this not be only for training or introductory rides? Not for main longstanding rides. Tom McCormack – Treasurer, AERA Invoices for approval P&L No Report. Tom Perkins said he would like to make a few comments. He went to the last AERA meeting. He said that he thought he had a fair handle on the amount of work that is being done. Tom said he thought that he was putting in a fair amount of personal time but it was an eye opener as to how much work Tom McCormack is doing. The amount of things that he is doing would kill a horse. If we could help him out with his workload, it would probably be a good thing. NSW Endurance News May—June Page No. 49 Gay Bonham – Secretary, Ride Administration, Ride Standards No correspondence report. Only letter was sent to Sally Fenner to which we have received no reply. Received a letter from AERA asking that we name the NSW vet for the Queensland Quilty. Been contacted by Equitana and they want to know if we want a stand. Agree to hold this over to the next meeting. We need to let them know by end of April 2013. Maybe we should write to AERA and ask if they want to pay half of the fees. Gay said Kim and Kym are happy to provide a demonstration again. Marlee said that last time she had the passes that got her helpers into the event. Haydn Fisher – Horse Welfare, CS & TPR, Vet Liaison There was a certain member who was on the cusp of getting a letter under the points system. Didn’t quite get to 30 points. He spoke to her but he thinks she is due for a letter. The rider rides differing horses for different people and this seems to be the problem. She did 36 rides and vetted out of 50%. No drug testing. Gail has done her testing with Jeff Bonham. Haydn asked if NSW ERA would pick up her expenses. MOVED THAT Carried Gay Bonham, John Howe NSW ERA pay Gail Fisher’s EA membership for 2013 Unanimous Steve Roberts said that he has done a swab on a horse at a recent ride and he is not an EA member. He did this at the request of AERA. We are following the EA procedures, do we need to use EA members? We need to use EA accredited swab stewards. Gay said that Jeff Bonham would prefer not to continue as a drug steward. Zone 1 – Greg Moore – Feedback Forum, Ride Surveys, Membership Surveys Have you all looked at the website? Photo ribbons are a bit of a problem. Zone delegates asked to send their Zone information in. Tom Perkins said that when you go to any tab this could be made password protected. If we have a tab that we don’t want public, general membership could not open that tab. Consider that we have a TAB in the drop down menu where there is a page for each portfolio but only SMC members could see it. Greg was asked to think about the idea as he wasn’t currently in favour of it. Zone 2- Brad Jones Brad to supply his details to add his information on the inside back cover of the newsletter. Zone 2 needs to change its ride buckle. At the recent Zone AGM, there were some new members, a family of four who wrote a cheque out for $500 for a new mould for a new buckle. This was great. Zone 4- Steve Roberts – Dispute Resolution & Disciplinary Process amendments No news other than the summary that was put out for the AGM. Anne Lymbery is not as badly injured as he was led to believe. Zone 5 – Belinda Hopley – Horse Welfare, CS & TPR, Vet Liaison, Gay needs to move Belinda’s report up the Agenda. Gary Tweedie is the new Zone Delegate. Belinda is now in Kerry’s position. She will be standing for election at the AGM. Report from Kiwarrak – Shaun Pollard is now set to become a Chief Steward. He has done all that is required. No problems at the Kiwarrak ride. Went well. One vet didn’t turn up but they were able to get another one who possibly was not an accredited vet. FEI championships – Sonya chief stewarded at that ride. Four invasive treatments. One horse died. Sassafras – Neil was chief steward. Went well, very hot, lots of vet outs. Social riders without hats, had whips and spurs but this was all sorted out in the end. 29 rides, 2 horse deaths. Quite a lot of invasive treatments this year. Three came from Red Range. More information is set out in Belinda’s AGM report. General Reports Workshops for National Parks access. Two weeks after the AGM. One at Muswellbrook. Ride Organisers should add this amount to their ride entry fee. AERA Inc Attention Chief Stewards Would you please ensure that all: Invasive Treatment Forms, Rider reports, Rest Orders and Log Books are correctly filled out. Please take the time to check that all required areas are correctly filled in and that the names are spelt correctly. Belinda Hopley – for the NSW SMC NSW ERA Notice Horse Yards: Riders are reminded of their duty of Care with regard to Horse Containment at rides. There have been a number of incidences that have resulted in injuries serious enough to withdraw from the ride. One horse received injuries serious enough to be out for quite a few months. So please, think about how and where you contain your horse and try to have someone supervise your horse at all times. NSW SMC NSW Endurance News May—June 2013 Page No. 64 Ride Bases Map The NSWERA Web page now has a Google map with ‘Find it’ features that will show the distribution of ride bases through NSW and provide a map with directions from your home to the ride base. To access the map just go to www.nswera.asn.au. When you get there just click on the "NSW Ride Base Map" towards the top of the screen. To use the map: - Click on the ride base in the list on the left. A text box will pop up near the flag for the ride base. Click on get directions ‘to here’. Enter your hometown in the start address. Click ‘GO’ and print off the map and directions. If you have a navigator in your vehice the map coordinates are shown in the text box, but a word of caution when using a navigator to go to a map grid reference, navigators are programmed to find the most direct route (as the crow flies), and as you get close to your destination they sometimes want to turn you down a side road or even a forest trail. Ride organisers To have a ride base added to the map, 1. Go to Google on the internet. 2. Select 'Maps' from the menu bar at the top. 3. With a map of Australia showing. 4.the curser (a little hand) on the area you're interested in, right click and select 'Center map here'. 5. Slide up the scale ladder a little. 6. Repeat 4&5 until you have zoomed in on the area. 7. Now select 'Satellite' to see an overhead picture of the area. 8. Put the 'Little Hand' on the gateway to the ride base, right click and select 'Directions from Here'. 9. A green flag will appear at the spot and a 'Get directions' box will appear in the top left corner. 10. If the flag is not quite right, click and drag it. 11. In the 'Get directions' box against flag 'A' will be the map grid reference for the spot chosen, it will look like ( -30.294007,147.498579) 12. Jot down that reference with the ride name and email it to me at ‘[email protected]’. To check we have located the marker correctly, or if the ride base has been moved, zoom in on your marker on the Ride Bases Map as described above, switch to Satellite and check the position of the marker. If it is in error follow the procedure above and email me the details. Also run some tests approaching your ride base from different directions and note any anomalies, see the Shahzada text box for an example. NSW Endurance News May—June Page No. 67 Logbook & Identification Procedures A horse is a novice for a minimum of 90 days from the date on which it successfully completes its first affiliated endurance ride and may only attempt four rides during this period, ie if a horse successfully completes its first ride on 1st July, it cannot upgrade to endurance status until after 28th September and may only enter four rides during this period. There is no limit on the time it takes to reach endurance status. Your horse can be a novice for as many months (or years) as you like. When your horse has successfully completed 240 kms of affiliated endurance (not training) rides, it can be upgraded from novice (blue log book) to endurance (yellow log book) status. Ensure the brands are clear. If not, have the horse re-branded or microchipped (Refer to rule H5.2(a) - (b) ) and H5.3). Have a vet complete the horse identification form (written description and diagrams) and sign it. Identification and microchipping can be done at most rides, but it is advisable to check with the ride secretary beforehand. Complete the logbook application form and attach I.D. form, novice horse logbook and the appropriate fee. Please allow 10 working days from date of posting for return. It is essential to retain a copy of the I.D. form and perhaps have it laminated for the future. PLEASE NOTE An Endurance Horse Logbook will not be issued unless a signed Veterinary Identification Form is enclosed with the application. The I.D. in the novice log book is NOT acceptable. If there is anything that you are unsure of, please do not hesitate to phone me. Transfer of Ownership Procedures It is the responsibility of the purchaser of the horse to notify the State of the change in ownership details. It is important that the correct person be registered as the owner of the horse as this assists with the correct allocation of National and State distance and pointscore awards as well as identifying the persons responsible for the horse when disciplinary actions need to be instituted. Process for Changing Ownership Details When a sale of a horse occurs and the horse has had a logbook issued it is the responsibility of the new owner to notify the State of the change of ownership. A transfer of ownership form must be completed and forwarded to the State, together with a cheque for $11 and the logbook. Once the transfer of ownership form is received the logbook can be amended with the change in owners and the transfer verified by the Logbook Secretary/Registrar. Procedure for Recording Change of Ownership Transfer of ownership forms are to be made readily available to all members, preferably through the State Newsletters or upon application to the Logbook Secretary/Registrar. Once a logbook, transfer of ownership form and fee are received the Logbook Secretary/ Registrar will: 1. Record the ownership transfer into the logbook. 2. Verify the transfer. 3. Return the logbook. 4. Record the ownership transfer into the computer records of the State Division. 5. Keep a copy of the ownership transfer form and forward the original to the AERA Registrar. 6. Forward the $5 fee to AERA. NSW Endurance News May—June Page No. 69 AUSTRALIAN ENDURANCE RIDERS ASSN. INC.
