Many of you have asked about optional vacation opportunities after
the 40th Anniversary in Port Dickson, Malaysia. Our local event
coordinator has negotiated a variety of packages you can take
advantage of if you like.
The first set of options revolves around two nights and three days in Kuala Lumpur. You
can stay at any of a number of downtown hotels at discounted rates (from RM200 to
RM350 per night and including breakfast) and choose any of the sightseeing tours listed
as options 1-16.
The second set of options (#17 – 21) is hotel and activity package deals (not including
airfare, see each option for details of what is included, but all are two nights and three
days). You will go directly from Port Dickson to the KL Airport and take a flight to
whichever destination that you choose among the various destinations.

A DAY IN RAINFOREST (07)
‘Back to nature’
The tour will expose you to the real feeling of being in the
tropical rainforest of Malaysia, a guided tour by an expert on
Malaysian jungle. This specially designed program is to
introduce you to the wonders and the beauty of a primary
tropical rainforest all in a day while staying in Kuala Lumpur.
The journey to the tropical rainforest in the outskirts of the city,
will take approximately an hour. Along the way you pass
through typical Malay Villagers and scenes of friendly people
going about their daily chores. Our first stop on the way is the
aboriginal museum. Among the displays are weapons used for
hunting , clothing made from free barks, traditional musical
instruments etc. An introduction of the place and activities will
be carried out immediately on arrival before proceeding with
jungle trekking by identifying various fruit trees. Test your skill
with the blowpipe shooting or fishing (catch and release) at
the nearby fresh water pond using the bamboo rod or simply
take a dip in the nearby river or in the swimming. Lunch will be

PUTRA JAYA & AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE PARK

‘Most intelligent city in Malaysia’
The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Putra Jaya takes
approximately 50 minutes via the highway. Our first stop will be
Taman Warisan or Agricultural Heritage Park – a ‘living’
museum for mango, rubber, coca, palm oil, durian, jackfruit,
herbs and etc. A demonstration on the entire rubbermanufacturing process from the time it is tapped and churned
out as fully smoked sheets will be shown during the tour.
Next proceed to Putra Jaya Government Centre, there are
numerous new government complexes located in this new
township. The most imposing structure in Putrajaya is the thin
pinkish Putra Mosque. Standing beside Dataran Putra and
facing the Putrajaya Lake, it incorporates architectural
elements from Turkestan, Kazakhstan and Morocco. Another
eye-catching building is the Prime Minister’s office – Putra
Perdana. Other interesting places are Putra Bridge, Prime
Minister’s residence.

Depart Kuala Lumpur for Port Klang in an hour – Malaysia’s
busiest port. The 30 minute ferry ride offers a panoramic view of
the busy harbour and the mangrove swamps of nearby islands.
Visit St. Peter’s Church (1710) – the oldest Christian Church still
in use in Malaysia. Drive past the largest 17th century Chinese
cemetery outside of China, located at Bukit China or Chinese
Hill. Stop at the foothill to view the Sultan’s Well before driving
through the Portuguese Settlement.
On arrival at Pulau Ketam, take a leisurely stroll to see how an
entire fishing community lives in a village where even the roads
are build on stilts. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
After lunch, catch the ferry for return trip to Port Klang. Drive up
to view the fabulous palace of the Selangor Sultan.
Visit the Sultan Salahuddin Mosque, also known as the Blue
Mosque. Capped by one of the largest religious domes in the
world , the mosque occupies about 36 acres of beautiful
parkland surrounded by the Municipal Council Tower, State
Library, State Museum and the Lake Gardens. Stop at Thean
Hou Temple before we conclude our tour for the day.

Proceed to view the famous gateway. ‘Port De Santiago’ and

Proceed to Kuala Selangor town in the quiet hamlet of
Kampung Kuantan, one of the largest firefly colonies in the
world.
The journey takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. Our first
stop is the Aborigine Settlement.
On arrival at Kuala Selangor, visit “Kota Melawati” formerly
known as “Fort Altingsburg” , the execution block, royal
mausoleum and colonial buildings. A bird sanctuary park at
the foot of Bukit Melawati is an ideal place for bird watchers to
watch migratory birds. Also found are silvered – leaf monkeys,
butterflies etc.
Next proceed to Kampung Kuantan – the highlight of the tour.
Row upstream in a small unmotorised boat (tongkang) in the
quiet darkness to witness the blinking trees. This scintillating
display of fireflies portrays an image of a flashing Christmas
tree. The synchronized, rhythmic flashing is produced by the
thousands of fireflies found in the mangrove swamp of
Kampung Kuantan. The skilled local oarsmen make this
experience a memorable and unforgettable one.

Kuala Gandah Elephant conservation was established in 1989
by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks. The center is
a base for the Elephant Relocation Team, which began the
elephant translocation programme in 1974. The only one of its
kind in Malaysia, the team is dedicated to locating, subduing
and then translocating problem elephants from areas where
their habitats are constantly being encroached by plantations
and to other suitable habitats throughout the Peninsular such
as Taman Negara. Over the past 25 yrs the centre has helped
prevent the further declined of the elephant population by
relocating more than 300 wild elephants. Tour includes
elephant ride, elephant feeding and for those who are brave,
we suggest you bring a change of clothes and towel if you
wish to participate in water activities such as swimming and
bathing the elephants in the river.

We begin our tour with National Zoo, the largest zoo in
Malaysia and situated just outside the city limits and yet a
world away from its hustle and bustle. Located 13 km northeast
of Kuala Lumpur, the National Zoo houses some 200 species of
animal, bird and reptiles, while the aquarium has 80 species of
marine and fresh-water life. Within the extensive grounds is an
area for sea lions where visitors can see them being most
active during feeding time.
Next, proceed to the Royal Selangor factory where upon
arrival, you will be taken for a tour of the Pewter Gallery. The
Gallery offers a host of interactive displays and fascinating
exhibits, aimed at educating and titillating the sense. From the
Gallery, we continue with the highlight of today’s tour –
‘School of Hard Knocks’. Using just a few simple tools (hammer,
wooden mould, scraper), make a pewter dish personalised
with your initials or message that you wish to engrave onto the
dish. Step by step, the experienced pewtersmith will guide you
through the simple processes of forming, scraping, polishing
and packing. The finished dish is for you to keep, along with an
apron as a momento. A personalised certificate will be
presented to you to attest to your newfound skills.

‘Nature and environment outside the jungle’
An educational tour of nature and environment outside the
jungle.
Orchid Garden – see over 800 varieties of orchid including the

The Deer Park – located on the Undulating slopes and
sprawling valley of the Lake Gardens. Close to a bubbling
stream at the edge of the valley are several mousedeer. The
mousedeer is the world’s smallest hoofed animal and a

The Butterfly Park – the butterfly park houses some 6,000
butterflies of over 120 species. The park is an imitation of the
butterfly’s natural habitat. It includes more than 15,000 plants
from 100 species that have been used to recreate a Malaysian
