Personalized Vacation Brochure
MONTREAL — Softvoyage is introducing two new free sales tools to SIREV: the
Personalized Vacation Brochure and the
Trip Book.
The Personalized Vacation Brochure is a
new communication and sales tool available to travel agents subscribing to SIREV.
They leverage it as support or follow up
to a sales call, to share a promotion or exceptional offer, or to simply keep the conversation going with a customer.
The brochure is easy to create. From
a shopping result in SIREV, the agent
generates for a customer a personalized
brochure accessible from the web. The
brochure presents at a glance all the

CRUISING UPDATE
Nearly 500 agents have signed up for
cruise3sixty 2015 next April
information about the proposed vacation plans: itinerary, travel components’
details, supplier’s description, a destination map, the SIREV tourist guide, and
Monarc’s global property score and
comments from Canadian travellers.
The agent decides what price to display,
adjusting or not the supplier’s selling price.
For the customer, it is a source of information which can be shared with relatives.
Once a decision is made, the customer can
then easily find the agency’s coordinates to
complete the transaction.
Coming soon, travel agents will be
able to attach to the brochure, a booking form enabling customers to complete the transaction online.
The Trip Book is a new after booking
sales tool. Agents leverage it to maintain
the relationship with the client after
the initial booking, propose additional
components before the departure or to
access the complete information on the
booking, make payments and more.
From a reservation in SIREV, the agent
generates for a client a personalized Trip
Book accessible from the web. The Trip
Book contains all relevant information
about the booked vacation. For a client, the Trip Book is more than a simple
transaction confirmation. The Trip Book

“Canadian travel agents can now leverage this great tool to increase their sales.
The Personalized Vacation Brochure
helps agents develop the relationship
with prospects and convert more opportunities into sales. Most customers
will value having access to a personalized
brochure, rich with complete information about the planned vacation, before
making a decision. Once they make up

mostly by the insertion of a customer’s
e-mail and message.
They are fully personalized, with the
agency’s name and coordinates, as well
as a personalized message from the
agency to the customer. Agents will
soon have the capability to insert their
own picture.
Because they are built in web multiformat language, both the brochure
and the book can be consulted and
printed by customers directly, from any
connected device such as a computer,
tablet or smart phone.
According to Steve Ringuet, Softvoyage’s CEO, the Personalized Vacation
Brochure is an additional tool available
in a travel agent’s sales essential tool kit:
their clients after the initial booking.
Between the reservation and the time
of departure, clients will use the Trip
Book to prepare for their vacation. For
the agent, it is a services and sales tool.
Travellers who booked most likely require other complementary services,
such as an insurance or hotel room. As
such, an agency’s client will value the
opportunity to add new components
to his or her personal Trip Book. And
upon return from holidays, the experience continues with the Monarc posttravel survey sent to the client on behalf
of the agency.”
All the information on the Personalized
Vacation Brochure and the Trip Book are
available in English and French on SIREV.

BUDAPEST — This season, Emerald
Waterways, the first new European
river cruise line to set sail in more than
six years, was born with the launch of
two gleaming, custom-built ‘star-ships’:
Emerald Star and Emerald Sky, with two
more joining the fleet next year.
Already there are kudos; Cruise International Magazine nominated Emerald
Sky for best new ship in its upcoming
cruise awards.
The younger ‘sister’ of Australianowned luxury line Scenic Cruises, Emerald Waterways is targeting a younger
crowd and experienced cruisers seeking
greater value. The four-star line is more
topnews
affordable than five-star Scenic and says
it is less expensive or on par with its
competitors, but is nearly all-inclusive.
Claiming more amenities and stateof-the-art features than other lines,
Glen Moroney, Emerald Waterways’ innovative founder, is set on revolutionizing European river cruising with firsts
like a heated stern-facing infinity pool
with retractable sun roof that transforms, via a retractable floor, into a cozy
cinema and bar (call for service), with
self-service hot beverage station.
Floor-to-ceiling windows on three
sides allow swimming or lounging while
sightseeing.
To check it out, recently I embarked
on the 182-guest Emerald Star in Budapest for a one-week Danube Delights
voyage to Nuremberg, plus three-night
Classic Prague land extension. Although
a Budapest extension is not offered, it is
well worth booking clients extra time in
the gorgeous city to explore sights not
included in the ship’s city tour.
Overall, I was impressed with the
sleek, contemporary ship, the meals,
the walking and coach tours led by local
guides, and, especially, with the friendly
staff who got to know passengers’ interests.
Soon after boarding, it was evident
Emerald has succeeded in diversifying
river passenger demographics, at least
on this sailing. While many guests were
retired, there was an age mix (perhaps
partially due to a small dental convention onboard). Unlike my voyage
aboard sister Scenic last summer with
mostly Australian guests, Emerald passengers primarily hailed from the UK,
Canada and the U.S.
Emerald’s ships have 72 suites, in
three categories, and 20 staterooms,
including two single occupancy. I had
a European-styled 180-square-foot
Panorama Balcony Suite (third category) on the Horizon (third) Deck.
The bright panoramic floor-to-ceiling window, fronted by an indoor teak
deck for two chairs (clunky for the small
space) and table, drew me like a moth
to light. A hydraulic switch easily lowered the upper half of the window, allowing fresh air in. Unlike the French
balcony common on most ships, this
space is usable regardless of weather.
Larger suites separate the balcony from
cabin with sliding doors.
The cabin has tons of storage with a
bank of push-touch drawers and a closet with mini bar (extra) and safe. Complimentary bottled water was restocked
daily. The bathroom placement, with a
sliding door next to the bed, I (and others) disliked.
Bathrobes and slippers are included
for suites on request, as was a feather
pillow, upon which a different chocolate perched at turndown each evening. Complimentary WiFi in my suite
was spotty and more often off than on
(perhaps because my laptop is old), but
connectivity was better in public areas.
There are two dining venues. Reflec-

Culinary Tourism
Celebrating its 80th anniversary, Air
France solidifies culinary reputation
by Cindy Sosroutomo
Air France has certainly come a long
way since serving meals on the ground
before long-haul flights in the 1930s.
Now celebrating its 80th anniversary,
the airline realizes now more than ever
the importance of in-flight meal service
and how it can elevate the travel experience for its passengers.
To commemorate the milestone, Air
France has partnered with acclaimed
caterer and patisserie Lenôtre to create
six limited edition ‘galette des rois’ that
retrace the airline’s history. Meant to be
collector items, these delicate and delicious cakes were inspired by Air France’s
legendary aircraft, from the Caravelle to
the A380, featuring elements of past
advertising posters and Air France’s historic logo, the winged seahorse.
As the only airline to offer champagne to all passengers on long-haul
flights (except Economy on some
flights operated by B777), Air France is
accustomed to providing a high level of
customer service. Every year, the airline
serves more than one million bottles
of champagne to passengers during
flights. Cabin crew undergoes specific
training on wine and champagne at the
airline’s in-flight training centre, where
they learn how to serve wine, how bottles must be presented and the origin,
name of the chateau, year and classification of any given bottle.
To complement the free-flow of
bubbly, Air France is equally proud of
its in-flight cuisine. Many renowned
chefs have shared the airline’s kitchens
throughout the years, including Joël
Robuchon, Guy Martin, Michel Roth,
Thibaut Riggeri and Regis Marcon.
Different in each class, menus are
prepared with the utmost care and
feature restaurant-quality food. For
example, in First Class on A380 and
B777, French delicatessens are served,
while Business Class passengers are of-
fered a selection of cheeses, desserts
and a wine list. Seats have even been
designed to enjoy gastronomy ever
further, with a wider tablet armrest
for cocktails. In Premium Economy
and Economy Classes, the selection
of food also goes upmarket, with new
gourmet sweets making the trip even
more enjoyable.

G Adventures
highlights Tibet
trips following
updated laws on
travel permits
G Adventures is leading the charge into
Tibet after it was announced by the
Chinese government that travel permits to the country would no longer
have nationality constraints.
The tour operator has been taking
travellers to Tibet for over five years,
but up until recently Chinese government laws permitted only a maximum
of three nationalities on each trip. Updated laws mean all travellers are now
welcome to immediately choose from
and book without any restriction a
range of G Adventures trips.
“In the past, we have sometimes had
to disappoint travellers who were eager
to visit Tibet because we were unable to
obtain a permit for them due to there
already being travellers of three other
nationalities booked on the trip,” said
Denise Harper, Director of Sales, Canada, G Adventures. “For instance, if a
Canadian traveller expressed an interest
in joining a particular trip to Tibet, but
travellers holding British, Australian and

is you are surrounded by like-minded
travellers from all over the world, and
we are thrilled to now be able to offer
this same experience in Tibet.”
G Adventures offers several itineraries to Tibet, all with guaranteed departures. These include ‘Tibet Adventure’,
which is priced from $2,789 and includes visits to Beijing, Kathmandu and
a ride on the Trans Tibetan Railway to
Tibet. There’s also the ‘High Road to Tibet’, priced from $2,899 with a visit to
the Tibetan cultural capital of Lhasa
and a hike to Everest Base Camp. And
finally, there’s the ‘China, Yangtze and
Tibet Explorer’, which is priced from
$3,999 and highlights Tibetan spirituality in Buddhist temples and monasteries with an expert guide.

HOW EXACTLY DOES THE NEW
PERSONALIZED VACATION
BROCHURE BENEFIT AGENTS?
It simplifies the process of sharing

as the latest comments about the

E-MAIL. YES, DON’T PANIC: YOU
CAN STILL E-MAIL YOUR CUSTOMERS PROVIDED YOU’VE GOT THEIR

The introduction of the new Canadian Anti

the travel industry this spring as the industry
became aware of the impact it would have.
To make matters worse, the legislation is
subject to considerable interpretation and
even lawyers who specialize in the field are
still trying to get to the bottom of it.
It reminds me of when GST was introduced. Even the federal departments responsible for explaining it didn’t have a clue
as to how it applied to many, many scenarios. And so it is with CASL.
I am no expert in this legislation and that is
not the purpose of this column. You should get
the right advice from an expert. But I am here
to tell you that e-mail remains an important
channel to reach some of your customers, and
it is one that you should not abandon.
There are a few simple rules about e-mail
that I’ve always felt are critical to getting

as a sales tool.
Create a subject line that’s clear, concise

Don’t use attachments. Embed your message right in the email.

consumers
The Travel Industry Council of Ontario’s
Board of Directors approved payment
of $15,743.41 to assist 12 consumers

was due to the closure of Amigo Travel

Airlines in Mexico ($2,300) and Sky Asia
Travel in Toronto ($10,320). The Board
denied one claim on the basis that the
claimants purchased their travel services
from an unregistered travel agency.

Nearly 500 agents have signed
up for cruise3sixty 2015
FORT LAUDERDALE — Nearly 500 travel agents have already
registered for cruise3sixty 2015, the only official cruise conference of the cruise line industry.
Already registered agents have taken advantage of the
low Summer Early Bird Pricing for certified active agent
members starting at $95, available through Aug. 30, 2014.
Hosted by the world’s largest cruise industry organization,
Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the annual
conference and trade show will take place April 22-26 in
Fort Lauderdale and will feature new elements in addition
to extensive educational
training and networking
opportunities.
Agents are encouraged
to register early, as CLIA
training seminars and ship
inspections, which traditionally sell-out, are on a
first come, first served basis.
CLIA’s 10th annual cruise3sixty conference and
trade show took place this
Christine Duffy
past April at the Broward
County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale. Of the nearly 1,200 travel agents who
registered for the 2014 event, 59% were graduates or actively
engaged in the CLIA Certification program and a recordbreaking 3,144 participants attended the 18 professional development and training seminars.
“Cruise3sixty 2015 promises to be another record-breaking
conference for agent attendance with even more cruise line
and destination educational opportunities,” said Christine
Duffy, CLIA President & CEO. “The conference has gained an
enviable best-in-class reputation with gold-standard training
and networking opportunities for all attendees. Our agency
and agent partners know that this is the place to be to make
their businesses an even greater success.”
34 TRAVELWEEK August 14, 2014
The conference will once again offer more ship inspections
than any other travel show and a comprehensive educational
program that includes CLIA training seminars and the opportunity to earn up to 150 certification credits.
Cruise3sixty also features destination and product workshops from CLIA-member cruise lines, including a CLIA Specialty Cruise Collection and Brand Showcase, as well as general
sessions featuring top cruise industry executives and keynote
speakers. Networking, social and entertainment events such
as CLIA’s annual Hall of Fame Gala keep agents, suppliers and
exhibitors coming back year after year.
CLIA members and non-members can register at cruise3sixty.com. For more on CLIA and becoming a CLIA member, visit cruising.org.
