Young and friends run the Grand Canyon
Bill Young, of Hookersville, and
his buddies had a different idea of
seeing the Grand Canyon than most
other people.
Most people who have the opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon
view its breathtaking vistas from
the safety of the South Rim. Many
take in the National Park Service’s
museum, along with the restaurants
and shops, which supply road-weary tourists with practically anything
imaginable. More adventurous visitors sometimes hike partway down
one of the trails that lead to the Colorado River and some take a mule
train down to the bottom as well.
Less than 10 percent of the park’s
visitors drive to the remote North
Rim which is almost 1,000 feet
higher in elevation and is open from
mid-May to mid-October, due to the
Park Service’s concern for the safety of visitors.
Bill, 43, and his friends are off-
