  To submit a piece for the race report, such as a personal record (PR), first time
at a distance, or other achievement, complete 
this form for the Race Captains. Reports received by 5 PM on Tuesday will
be included in Thursday’s Gram.   
To submit an activity, event or announcement, email Dave. Please note that only
events produced specifically for and by Front Runners will be published. All Gram
announcements are at the Board’s discretion. FRNY Friday at Phoenix - Tomorrow! 
Front Runners’ monthly social will be at Phoenix bar on April 11th at 6:30 pm. Rise
from this Winter’s relentless icy grip and celebrate the arrival of Spring at Phoenix,
one of New York’s classic gay dive bars. Enjoy $3 well drinks and $3 domestic bottled
beers and Phoenix’s legendary jukebox. Phoenix is located at 447 East 13th St. between
Ave. A and 1st Ave. Women’s Racing Meeting - Friday 4/25
  Now that the racing season is underway, we want to invite all of you to join us
to discuss your racing goals for the year. Do you want to run faster or try new
distances? Do you know how you can help the team by running in the NYRR points races? Do
you want to know what a points race is? Are you aware of our Participation Award? It
doesn’t matter what pace you run, we want to know what you want to accomplish so that
FRNY can help you achieve those goals!   The event will be held at the Upper
Refectory at Union Theological Seminary at 3041 Broadway at West 120th Street,
7-9pm.  This event is open to all members.

  Join us this Saturday, April 12th, as the Beginners Clinic participates in the
fun run. As always, we will be meeting at 9:45am at Rutgers Church or at 10am
in the park (W 72nd- just south of the Webster statue). Steve Vizena, our resident
stretching coordinator, will be leading a stretch at the park. Runners of all paces are
welcome!

  If you want to win the Inger-Jo Berger Participation Award, support other local
running clubs, or explore races outside of Central and Prospect Parks (and want to do so
in the company of fellow-FRNY members) join us at these upcoming local club races. At
least one of the race captains will be at each of these races, and will coordinate
transportation and any post-race activities.
Van Cortlandt Track Club Urban Environmental Challenge 10k - Sun 4/13 This
race in Van Cortlandt Park brings 10 kilometers of true trail racing to the city! Age
group winners get Lloyd’s carrot cakes! If you’re interested in traveling with a group,
please email the race captains to let them know so we can plan to meet
at 8:15 am outside Rutgers Church and take public transport.Queens Distance
Runners Cinco de Millas at Forest Park - Sat 5/3 This 5-mile race in Forest
Park, Queens, is organized by one of New York’s newest local clubs: Queens Distance
Runners, which is dedicated to promoting running and racing in Queens. If you’re
interested in traveling with a group, we’ll meet at 8 am outside Rutgers
Church and take public transport. And after the race we’ll go for brunch at one of
Forest Hills’ fine dining establishments.Put your name on the racing sign-in sheet if

  Registration is now open for this year’s Brooklyn Pride LGBT 5k
Run, Saturday, June 14 in Prospect Park. FRNY is excited to co-sponsor this
year’s race, which features electronic timing by NYC Runs, tech t-shirts and custom
engraved Brooklyn Pride Run finisher medals for all runners, and prizes for top
finishers. Contact race co-directors Steve Waldon and Dan Ferguson with any

The last coached workout of indoor season is on April 17. This is a great
opportunity to join the Brooklyn fun runs on Tuesday nights until outdoor season begins.
We will also have a special Brooklyn coached workout on April
29th in preparation for the Brooklyn Half. Fun runs meet up on Tuesdays
at 7pm at the 3rd Street entrance of Prospect Park, then we begin the run
at 7:15. We often eat out in Park Slope afterward. The JackRabbit store at 151 7th
Avenue (@ Garfield) offers a bag drop for those who need it.

Jersey Shore Triathlon
Our first target race of the season is the Jersey Shore Triathlon! $15 off
registration for FRNY, use code FR-2014. Formerly the NJ Pride Triathlon, they’ve added
an Olympic distance to this race, along with Duathlon, Aquavelo and Relay events. A
great race for first-time triathletes. This will be followed by a backyard brunch and as
much beach time as you’d like.

  This week’s long run is a run through the Palisades starting from Patrick and
Johnny’s Washington Heights apartment (689 Ft. Washington, 5F @ 190th).  9am start,

  Race Report
  The Race Captains love to celebrate ALL of your accomplishments: PRs, debuts at a
distance and even your I-got-out-of-bed-and-ran-a-race races. To be included in the FR
Gram, please submit your race information to us via Formstack by 5 pm on the Tuesday
after your race. 
  
The second points race of the year, the NYRR Scotland Run 10K, was held this past
Saturday. 126 Front Runners proudly represented their team at this NYC Running Clubs
fueled race. 13% of our teammates ran 70% AG or better; 30% ran 65% AG or better and 48%
ran 60% AG or better. One person ran at sub-6 mile pace, 30 ran at sub-7 mile pace and
65 ran at sub-8 mile pace.  In the overall standings the Open Men placed 10th of 48
teams, Open Women placed 16th of 49 teams.  40+ Men came in 11th place with the 40+
Women in 8th place.  50+ men finished in 8th place and 50+ Women in 18th place.
 The 60+ Men finished in 6th pace.
   
Individuals placing for the team were, Open Men - Gabe Benroth, 36:51 (5:57 pace,
75.42%), Dan Ferguson, 37:19, 1st 10K (6:01 pace, 72.82%), Peter Macari, 37:30, PR (6:03
pace, 71.63%), Connor Essick, 37:42, PR (6:05 pace, 71.59%), and Kurt Steinhouse, 38:20,
1st 10K (6:11 pace, 70.07%).  Open Women - Ruth Loos, 40:06, 2nd overall female
finisher!, 1st in age, PR (6:28 pace, 79.82%), Michelle Mazzara, 46:01, PR, 7th in age
group (7:26 pace, 72.15%), Elke Gasselseder, 48:11 (7:47 pace, 64.34%), Anne Duquette,
49:47 (8:02 pace, 61.75%), and Yaryna Wynar, 51:12 (8:16 pace, 59.65%). 40+ men - Jerry
McDonnell, 38:29 (6:13 pace, 74.40%), Kieran O’Mahoney, 40:04 (6:28 pace, 70.93%), Gen
Watanabe, 41:26 (6:41 pace, 71.23%). 40+ Women - Ruth Loos, Michelle Mazzara, and Faith

50+ Women - Karin Lundell, 56:57 (9:11 pace, 67.90%) Lenore Beaky, 1:28:48 (14:20 pace,
50.56%) and Ruth Gursky, 1:37:14 (15:41 pace, 40.32%). 60+ Men - Dave Pitches, 46:00,
4th in age (7:26 pace, 78.06%), Mark Mascolini, 48:20 (7:48 pace, 70.94%), and Scott
Emmons, 54:54 (8:52 pace, 65.40%).
    
PR’s and 1st 10K’s were run by Dan Ferguson, Peter Macari, Connor Essick, Kurt
Steinhouse, Ruth Loose, Michelle Mazzara, Ekong Ekong, German Lorenzo, Maarten
Vandersman, Javie Gomez, Andrew Cunningham, Myles Lock,  Gilbert Gaona, and Sam
Sanders.
 
Congrats to our 126 teammates for representing our team so well and to our teammates who
cheered us on the course.  The next points race is the Brooklyn Half Marathon on
May 17th.
 
   
 
The next day, Sunday, 47 Front Runners, many running their second race of the weekend,
ran the NYRR Run for the Parks 4M.  Richard White was the first FRNY male to cross
the finish line in 26:08 placing 8th in his age group for a 6:32 pace and 75.55 AG%.
 His 50+ teammate, Gary Coulson was the other Front Runner to run an AG % at 70% or
better in a time of 27:13 (6:49 pace, 70.80% AG). Richard and Gary placed 1st and 2nd
for the 50+ Men’s Team on Saturday.  The first FRNY Woman to cross the finish line
was Elke Gasselseder in 29:52 for a 7:28 pace and 65.83 AG%. She was followed by her
teammate, Anne Duquette in 31:31 for 7:55 pace and 61.54 AG%.  Both Elke and Anne
scored for the Open Women at Saturday’s points race.  Ekong Ekong ran his 2nd PR of
the weekend with a time of 26:56 (6:44 pace, 67.22 AG%). Teammates who ran both of these
races include Richard White, Ekong Ekong, Brian Gusatvson, Gary Coulson, Brenton
Bellamy, Michael Benjamin, Richard Ervais, Jacob Rothschild, Edward Kennelly, Elke
Gasselseder, Michael Markowitz, Zander Ross, Anne Duquette, Diane Lowy, Sam LaFata and
Ruth Gursky.
 
Also on Sunday, more than 20 Front Runners traveled down to our Nation’s Capital to run
the DC Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run.  These include Jill Crouther,
1:27:36, Leah Serinsky, 1:28:37, Chen Liang, 1:32:54 PR, Katrina Amaro, 1:34:16, Elspeth
Greene, 1:41:14, Tara Amato, 1:43 PR, Maria Woehr, 1:44:46, Sara Ray, 1:48:03, Mickey
Heller, 2:10:20, Megan McDavid, 2:16:25, Beth Strickland, 2:18:17, Thomas Hammer, 54:18,
Eddie Valentine, 55:30, Michael Sanderson, 1:04:26, Dennis Ng, 1:06:48 PR, Javie Gomez,
1:09:08, Brendan McLellan, 1:10:50, Jason Fluegge, 1:32:26, Jonathan Jeremias, 1:41:16,
and Ethan Fusaris, 2:40:22.   Javie, Brendan, Jason and Jonathan also ran the
Scotland Run the day before. Bernd Erpenbeck and TJ Jones were in town to cheer the team
and take photos.
 
   
 
After running the Scotland Run 10K on Saturday, Jennifer Bougher and David White ran
another 10K on Sunday, the Essex County (Newark) Cherry Blossom 10K.  Jennifer ran
a PR in 50:11, 8:04 pace and 10th in age group. David ran a PR in 46:01.
 
Tim Guscott ran the Scotland 10K on Saturday and then on Sunday traveled upstate to run
the Rockland Road Runners Hook Mountain Half Marathon.  Tim ran this race at his
Boston goal pace in a time of 1:45:17, his 3rd half marathon in 5 weeks plus the
Wurtsboro 18K on 3/29.  
David Grudzien continued his weekly half marathon racing schedule by running the
Hollywood Half Marathon in 2:36:02.
 
Phil Wahba ran his first St. Louis Marathon in 3:56:38
 
And finally, a shout out to the guys who went up to Bear Mountain on Sunday morning to
get in a trail long run, Steve Waldon, Gilbert Gaona, Dave Lin, Luc Berger, Kurt
