Garrett ~
Origins is exciting to me because acoustically produced music has always been my
favorite, yet I never had the opportunity
to do it until partnering with Vic. His guitar
playing is at that allusive level. I’m the computer guy and Beneath the Surface reflects
that.
Incorporating the organic acoustic sounds
into the electronic production of Under an
Endless Sky was exciting to me because it
was fresh and as far from the sound of any
band in our genre.
Additionally, the songs embody a folk
element that differ in their melancholy
mood and personal lyrics which I find as
touching as an angelic choir. If a journey of
a thousand miles begins with a single step
- then the origins of this journey truly began
in Vancouver, with the inclusion of Vic, Jody,
Rebecca & all our talented friends.
There is nothing better than programming
vic’s guitar and layering Jody & Rebecca
to see where it leads. Which is the main
reason we were inspired on a new path
deviating from Beneath the Surface.
Vic’s Production notes ~
Last Words I describe our newest Balli
track as hauntingly beautiful. From our signature chord progression, to Jody’s amazing
vocal track, to Jerry Sintich’s amazing string
arrangement, this song exemplifies our next
chapter with mood, ambient music.
You’re A Star We wanted to show the song
in it’s simplest form but still keep it moody.
A Beautiful Day Originally written on piano,
we recruited our talented friend Geraldo
Dominelli for a “live off the floor” piano
performance with Jody.
I Just Tell Myself This song is one of my
personal favorites. For ORIGINS we slowed
the tempo down to add to the melancholy
mood and to highlight the emotional
performance of Rebecca.
Wounded is essentially a new song
although it was recorded 5 years ago. We
borrowed some of the lyrics for the UAES
track Letting Go. This song really highlights
Jody’s intimate vocal perfomance.
Sunshine In Rain For this particular
version we peeled back the layers to
it’s early beginnings with clean electric
guitar. Vocally, Jody kept it pure and
simple.
Dream Believer We decided to work
with the original vocal melody. In this
version we wanted the acoustic guitar to
brighten up the mood and add some lift
to the ending section of the song.
Rebecca ~
Working with balligomingo has really opened
my eyes to a style of music i wasn’t aware
existed. The fusion of electronic and organic
is really interesting and unique. I’m stoked to
be a part of this project, and I am honoured
they asked me sing on Dream Believer and
I just tell myself. It chokes me up just to
sing them both...it’s hard not to put a part of
yourself into songs like that.
Vic says
“When I first heard Rebecca’s voice i knew it
would compliment Jody’s ambient style. She
has a great tone with unique soul sensibility
that captures a certain intimacy.”
Jody says
“Rebecca is such a great woman! I love
working with her and so stoked she’s now a
part of Balligomingo.”
Garrett says
“Rebecca was an unexpected find - she is
sultry and conveys the ideas as we believe
they should be heard.”
Jody ~
Sometimes when we’re in the studio, Vic
will pick up the guitar and start working on a
beautiful riff. This can often be the start of a
whole new song.
I’m so happy that we’re bringing the bones to
some of our tracks from Under An Endless
Sky.
A few songs I would comment on are,
Sunshine In Rain
When Vic and I first stumbled on the harmonies for this song we were both so excited.
It has had such legs with us and grown so
much over the years to now finally be back to
where it was when we began.
Wounded
Garrett was living in LA and had written this
gorgeous song. This is the vocal track we
recorded 5 years ago. I loved it then and I
love it now. Vic and I had worked on Letting
Go and hit a wall with it, it was Garrett’s
brilliance to bring the two songs together to
create Letting Go as it is today. We originally
had our version of Letting Go with no lyrics
and it was put on hold for a Jaguar commercial. I’ve loved Letting Go in all its versions
including the beginning of it all, Wounded.
You’re A Star
We all fell in love with the song
when we got the right vocal take.
It immediately came to life for us.
