The calm waters and constant breezes of St. Andrews Bay have made us the envy of both recreational and
commercial sailors since our founding in the early 1800s. A few of the venerable live oaks shading our parks
witnessed the arrival of Spanish explorers in the 1500s.
Divided into four distinct districts – St Andrews, Downtown, Downtown North and Millville – Panama City
offers diverse attractions, including a booming live music scene, shopping for art and antiques, and a unique
African-American culture dating back to the antebellum period.
Strolling our marinas, you can’t help but notice the shrimp and fishing boats moored at the docks, a living
testament to our maritime heritage. By walking our sidewalks, you are sure to catch the aroma of fresh fish,
shrimp, oysters and scallops cooking, fresh off the boats.
Warmed by our proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, our climate tempts visitors to experience four seasons of
outdoor enjoyment. With the sheltered waters of St. Andrews Bay serving as a gateway to the Gulf, along with
our numerous tributaries, we are a dream destination for sailors, boaters and anglers.
Our proximity to water also spurs the imagination, witnessed by the progressive creative community taking
root, particularly in the visual, performing and digital arts. Inspiring year-round events and festivals, celebrating

A BO UT US
For millennia, Native Americans thrived in the area that is now Panama City. But the first
permanent settlement by those of European descent was established in 1827. Panama City
grew as a center for salt production, fishing, boat-building and its healthful “sea baths” that
drew numerous visitors. While Panama City’s four districts retain intriguing vestiges of this
early history, they are also filled with vitality.

Mardi Gras
The St. Andrews Mardi Gras, the official Mardi Gras parade and festival of Panama City is a 2-day parade and festival. Celebrating its 20th Anniversary in
2017 with brightly colored floats, festive music, and tens of thousands of beads and doubloons will be tossed to the crowd.
October
Oktoberfest
Since 1984, Panama City’s Oktoberfest has delighted the young and old during this 2-day event. Bavarian music, Bavarian food, family-friendly activities,
a beer garden and more, are located on Harrison Avenue in downtown Panama City.
December
Dickens of a Christmas
Each year after the official tree-lighting ceremony, downtown Panama City transforms into a
winter-wonderland. Throughout select weekends in December, visitors enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides,
festive foods, and sometimes even snow makes an appearance.
