2010 Prescott Valley Community Map
now available at Chamber
The official Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce
community street map is now available and free to
the public. This map is published in partnership with
Village Profile and is made possible by business and
community advertisers. The beautiful photographs
showcase the Prescott Valley community and were
done by Stew Schrauger, Natural Visions Photography.
Cartography was done by the Town of Prescott Valley
GIS department and has all current streets, parks,
schools and other importation locations throughout
the area. This publication compliments the current
Prescott Valley Community Profile and Business Directory using the same color scheme and photos.
This map will also be viewed on the Community
Profile Network at www.villageprofile.com. It features all editorial content, a business directory of all
participating advertisers with lings to their business
websites and community eBooks that can be downloaded
to computer desktops, laptops, PDAʼs, smartphones
and other mobile devices.

Get Back to Business in 2011 with Chamber’s
Business Academy
The Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce is please to present Business Academy V beginning Feb. 15 and continung
through Apr. 4. This eight week course includes business
basics such as Finance, Customer Service, Communications,
Networking, Marketing, Economic Development and more
and Human Resources. Professionals and experts in each of
the areas instruct as well as continue to be resources after the
academy is over. Each class is two hours and a light dinner
is included.
The registration and materials fee for chamber members is
Business Academy class IV with Communications
$30 and there is no tuition fee. For non-members the tuition

The Prescott Valley Council recently had a presentation on electronic signage. We are working
on putting an informational sheet
together outlining the opportunities
for businesses that this will present. This will be sent out to all members via email and
included in the news magazine.
The Prescott Valley Holiday season is getting started.
We are happy to sponsor the Holiday Festival of Lights
and Parade with the Town of Prescott Valley. The town
does a terrific job of lighting the Civic Center and now
with the new Library it will be bigger and brighter than
ever. Our Valley of Lights is growing. We have some
new displays this year and our Master of Lights, Jeff
Schaffer has been busy at work since September getting
this renowned display ready to open on Thanksgiving
night.
Many thanks to all for tremendous support at the Flying High Turkey Drive. Together we made Thanksgiving
much more special for many families in our community.
Next up is the Burning Desire to Feed the Hungry on
Dec. 10 and 11. This is our annual food drive to help
fill the shelves of the Yavapai Food bank for the New
Year. Come by and see us at Safeway and donate a can or
two…or a box of food items.
Our new map is here. This piece compliments our
Community Profile and Business Directory. The same
beautiful pictures are included as well as our newest
streets and roads. You can pick up copies at the Prescott
Valley Chamber Visitor Center.
As we look to the end of 2010 we have been through
many challenges but together; as business and community we have persevered and worked to keep our local
economy going. I look to 2011 to be a better year and the
Chamber of Commerce will continue to support, push and
lead as we move in a positive and prosperous direction.

We had a great Turkey Drive for
Yavapai Food Bank. We raised
2,359 turkey between the 3 Fryʼs
Stores. It was amazing. A great
big thank you to Gene Draper, Store Manager at Fryʼs
in Prescott Valley for allowing all the turkey to be sold
at 29 cents a pound and allowing customers to buy
more than 1 and donating.
Burning Desire to Feed the Hungry is December
10th and 11th at Safeway in Prescott Valley. Please
come over and drop off a few non-perishable items.
If you havenʼt visited Valley of Lights yet, we are
open until December 30th. It looks fabulous this year
with several new displays.

and again I ask myself, where did
the time go? It just flies by anymore,
and the older I get, the faster it goes.
Hope the holidays were all happy,
healthy and of course, prosperous.
Weʼve had visitors from AZ, AK, CO, CA, CT, FL, ID,
IL, LA, MI, MN, MS, MO NE, NV, NJ, NM, OH, OR,
PA, SD, TX, UT, WA, WV and WI. Also ALBERTA,

Local Resident appointed Rotary Assistant District Governor. Jim Clemens has assumed the volunteer post of Rotary
International assistant district governor for Area 5, District
5490. As assistant district governor, Clemens will assist
with the following: Help incoming club presidents assess
their clubs and develop goals; Visit each club regularly, and
offer guidance and assistance as needed; Assist club leaders
in scheduling and planning for the governorʼs official visit
“Iʼm honored to have been appointed and I look forward to
serving in this capacity,” Clemens said.
Assistant governors are appointed annually by the district
governor. Rotary is an organization of business and professional men and women united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all
vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Horses with H.E.A.R.T. is thrilled to receive a grant totaling $2447 from the Yavapai County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Arizona Community Foundation. The
grant will be used to assist Horses with H.E.A.R.T. with their
fundraising efforts for the expansion of their program providing therapeutic
riding for the visually impaired youth
of Yavapai County.
This grant affords
HwH to include
more riders from a
broader geographic
area and a greater
number of sessions
and transportation assistance for these youth. Horses with
H.E.A.R.T. will now have the opportunity to further fill the
void in therapies for the visually impaired and confidence,
balance, muscle tone, posture coordination and interpersonal and social skills to the youth population.
The Yavapai County Local Workforce Investment
Board in conjunction with Northern Arizona Council of
Governments and Yavapai College is pleased to announce
the expansion of the Business Assistance Center (BAC) to
the Verde Valley area. The Verde Valley BAC held a Grand
Opening Dedication Ceremony on Wednesday, November
10, 2010.
The Business Assistance Center is a place to access information to develop home-based businesses and provide
valuable connections to other local business owners. The
BAC is a place to access business assessments, financial
management, training grants and planned workshops. Fully
equipped facilities all free of charge to small business and

Your caring generosity can help in restocking the Yavapai Food
Bank. We want to make sure that hunger is not allowed to survive
in Yavapai County and we have a plan to help.
On Friday December 10th beginning at 12 to 7 p.m. until Saturday December 11th at 7 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Prescott Valley
Safeway. Volunteers and staff from the Prescott Valley Chamber
of Commerce, KKLD Radio 95.9 FM, and the Yavapai Food
Bank will be at the store for two days to collect non-perishable
food items and fill a McWhite's American Van Lines truck for the
Yavapai Food Bank.
Keep the fires burning to raise awareness of the less fortunate
in our community and collect donations. Chamber CEO Marnie
Uhl challenges all business members to “feel the burn” and help
us feed the hungry by donating food items. She is encouraging
local businesses and organizations to hold their own week-long
food drive and make their donations on Friday or Saturday.

been chosen as a “2010 Spotlight on Success Awardee” by
the Arizona Department of Education. The recognition comes
as a result of continued success on the Annual Measurable
Achievement Objectives (AMAOs) and implementation
of the Sheltered English Immersion Model. It will receive
the award during the Title 1 Mega Conference on Tuesday,

Fighting Cold and Flu Season in the Workplace
• Encourage people to stay home. Sick employees may
think theyʼre being dedicated workers when they still come
into work but, the truth is, they spread germs to other employees and cut down on the overall productivity of the
business. Encourage employees to stay home when they
are sick at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever
or severe symptoms. Consider instituting a flexible leave
policy—and appropriate technology—that allows employees to work from home if they or their kids are sick.
• Promote good hygiene around the office – Remind everyone of the importance of hand washing and covering your
mouth if you sneeze or cough. Encourage employees to
regularly clean shared equipment such as phones and computers and wipe down common areas. Post friendly reminders around the workplace in languages that all employees
can easily understand.
• Encourage flu shots – Contact your local hospital to see if
they provide on-site flu shots or consider reimbursing some
or all of the cost for employees to get a shot on their own
time.
• Hold a health fair – Contact your local hospital to see
if they provide health fairs for larger offices. You can also
contract the coordination of an on-site health fair with a
company specializing in the service.
• Set a good example. Now that youʼve asked everyone to
wash their hands regularly and stay home if theyʼre sick, itʼs
important as the business owner that you follow your own
advice. When youʼre the boss it can seem like an impossible
task to take a sick day, but stay home and keep your germs
out of the workplace.

Cold and flu season is setting in and the close quarters of
the workplace allow coworkers to easily trade germs. Better Business Bureau recommends that business owners take
a few simple steps to prevent illnesses from spreading and
promote productivity throughout the workplace.
According to the National Institutes of Health every year
there are more than 1 billion cases of the common cold in
the United States. The flu also affects 5 to 20 percent of
Americans every year with the peak season starting in late
November, according to the Center for Disease Control.
“Fighting germs around the office is about keeping your
employees safe and maintaining productivity throughout
the peak cold and flu season,” said Matthew Fehling, BBB
President/CEO. “Encouraging proper hygiene and a liberal
leave policy will help maintain a happier, healthier workplace.”
BBB recommends taking the following steps to protect
employees during cold and flu season:
• Build up an arsenal to fight germs. Kleenex, hand sanitizer, and products for cleaning work spaces are three basic
purchases employers can make for fighting germs around
the office. Also consider investing in no-touch trashcans.
