The PATCHES Advisory Board members Rosa Brito, Mimi Budd, Sharon Fields, Carol Harris, Lori Losner, Susan Newman, Brenda Rohena, Larry Roth, Steve Smith and their families were very instrumental in the success of this event as were so many others. Those who volunteered, those who gave sponsorships, silent auction items, in-kind donations, those who purchased tickets….if L: Aubrey, Carol Harris, Jim Harris any segment of the event was missing we Thank you Aubrey & Jim for loaning wouldn’t have been as successful as we Carol to us. Carol you did an amaz- were…..so thank you to each and everyone ing job. Thank you for all your hard of you who made this event the great event that it was. The Harris Field Pavilion was magically transformed into New Orleans. Purple, work & dedication. green and gold colors were every where including on the columns which were lit up in colored lights. Most of the guests came in costumes or colors joining in the theme of the party. CBS 4 news reporter Jorge Estevez was the emcee along with Katie Edwards. He kept the evening rolling along…while Steve Kirkland and The Mister. K Band played music for dancing. The Expression Dance Company did a special performance under the direction of Alicia Norwood and Vicky Gonzalez. Because of the creative and culinary abilities of Chef Joost Barens we were served a delicious N’awlins Feast while strolling down the sidewalk in New Orleans enjoying the sounds of string instruments as artist Lepaca actually painted at her easel.. Guests were enjoying frozen signature beverages called The Hurricane prepared by Stick and Stein Sports Rock Café. Then off in the distance we could hear the sound of drums…they were getting closer. It was the beginning of the Mardi Gras Parade which came right through the center of the Harris Field Pavilion. Mr. Timmons from Robert Morgan lead the marching band, followed by the Jolly Jester – Debbie Brady, parade walkers – Theresa Smith, Girls from Royal Palm & Expressions Girls, 501st Legion – Star War group including Darth Vader, and Tin Lizzie’s Cars – from Homestead Shiners Club. Everyone roared with excitement as beads were being tossed from all the parade walkers into the crowds. The Mardi Gras King and Queen for the evening were selected by three anonymous judges. Congratulations to King Jeff Sass and Queen Wescott Trinidad. Mardi Gras...cont. We would like to thank Author/Poet Kathleen Higham for joining us at Mardi Gras. Mrs. Higham did a booksigning. Pierce….Happenings When little Angels go to heaven…. We would like to dedicate this newsletter to our angel Karina Hernandez-Sanchez, 03/14/2006-02/16/2012. Karina attended PATCHES PPEC Ft. Pierce for 3 1/2 years. Karina attended up to 2 days before her death, having given us all one last memory of her beautiful smile. Karina was an inspiration to all who knew her. Despite not being able to walk or talk this child taught us about joy and unconditional love. Rest in peace dear Karina- we know that you are smiling down on us from heaven, where you run, and play all day. You will be in our hearts forever. Thank you to PATCHES and all those individuals who have helped the family during this difficult time. “Her Silky Wings” Pondering the sight of Heaven Her life fulfilled in constant joy Life will pass very quickly Instilled because of this child Knowing they will come someday And they will finally know Those beautiful eyes held me Remembering hearts that beat as one Her silky wings come to guide them Becoming completely beguiled. Even when she left that day. When it is time for them to go. Aware of the existence of angels The time they shared, a precious gift Kathleen Higham They tended to her with such care But God had loved her more As they gently took her to Heaven Now she waits in hopefulness Lamentations 3:31-33 The Lord was waiting for her there. By the gate, at Heaven’s door. For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Oh, the sweetness of His touch Sometimes they will feel her Though he brings grief, he will His kisses covered her face A whisper of her silky wing show compassion, Silky wings He made for her So softly brushes by their lips So great is his unfailing love. In Heaven, an unimaginable place. In that moment, the angels sing. For he does not willingly bring affliction Nor grieve children of men. Pg. 6 Ft. Pierce. – cont. Valentines Day…… in Ft.
