Under the direction of head coach Scott Clark, the team has built on the previous season’s success. In 2014-15, the WolfPack made the playoffs and hosted their first ever post season series (where they swept the Winnipeg Wesmen before moving onto the quarter finals). The core of that team is back for 2015-16. Josh Wolfram (Kamloops, BC) emerged as one of the top players in the CIS last season. He was selected to Team Canada for the World University Games (the first TRU athlete ever to receive that distinction) in South Korea. He is back for his fifth and final year of eligibility and is expected to be a force under the basket. Reese Pribilsky (Victoria, BC) was among the top players in Canada West last year in assists and steals. He will run the offense as he enters his final year of athletic eligibility. The other fifth year on the ‘Pack this season is Gerard Gore (St. John’s Antiqua) who will be a key player off the bench. Another veteran expected to play a bigger role in the team’s success this year is Luke Morris (Mission, BC). There are a number of new faces on the roster this year led by Ukrainian Volodymyr Iegorov (forward) and Mauricio “Albert” Medrano of Los Altos, California (guard). Evan Helgason (guard, Kamloops, BC) is a graduate of Norkam who attended a U.S. Prep school last year in Florida. Other recruits who will vie for court time this season are Jeff Tubbs (Kelowna, BC), Justin Mason (Cloverdale, BC), Evan Cave (Kamloops, BC) and Mike Rouault (Vernon, BC). Mike is the younger brother of WolfPack alumnus Brett Rouault. Joining Clark on the bench this year is Kevin Pribilsky (third year) and Paul Patterson (second year). Tallon Milne moves from the floor to the sidelines after completing his athletic eligibility last year. The other new face on the bench belongs to Ted Murray who worked with Clark when he was at Simon Fraser University. Josh Wolfram has the distinction of becoming the first athlete from Thompson Rivers to represent the school and the city at the World University Games. Wolfram was part of Team Canada who finished eighth at the 2015 event, held in South Korea. Thompson Rivers University WolfPack SCOTT CLARK: HEAD COACH Scott was hired as the head coach of the men’s basketball program at TRU on May 20, 2010. Clark joins the WolfPack program as the team’s third head coach in their Canada West history. He left the Simon Fraser University Clan after spending 15 years at the helm of the SFU men’s basketball program, making the playoffs each of the last 10 years. With Simon Fraser, Clark was 113-96 over that time. “This was a great opportunity,” said Clark, who ended up moving closer to his parents and friends in Kelowna, BC. “I’m eager to continue laying a foundation on a program which has improved, but not had a great deal of success at the CIS level.” Clark describes himself as a coach who is demanding but fair. He immediately jumped into the Kamloops basketball scene by holding shooting clinics, starting the Junior Wolves program for boys in grades 4 and a mentorship program for athletes from grades 10-12. Clark holds a Master’s degree in coaching. He attended the National Coaching Institute in Victoria, BC and has been a CIS coach for 20 years. He is married to Carla. His step-sons are Brett (who played five years with the WolfPack) and Cole. The TRU program has improved every year under Clark’s watch. He is very committed to his player’s success on and off the court along with their involvement in the community. KEVIN PRIBILSKY: ASSISTANT COACH This is Kevin’s third as assistant coach. He joined Thompson Rivers University six years ago with head coach Scott Clark and former assistant andp layer Chas Kok from Simon Fraser University. Kevin was the winner of the Dr. Roger H. Barnsley Athlete of the Year in 2012-13. He was the captain of the WolfPack in 2013-14 and coordinated all the team’s community events. Kevin worked for two years at the TRU WolfPack/McDonald’s summer camps and has been actively involved in community coaching since he arrived in Kamloops. He completed his Arts degree in 2013-14 and recently graduated with a Post-Bach degree in Human Resources. He works for Worksafe BC. Kevin was also a nominee for the Basketball BC University Player of the Year in 2012-13. TRU WolfPack Coaching Staff PAUL PATTERSON: ASSISTANT COACH Paul is into his second year as an assistant coach with TRU. He played for the Cariboo College Chiefs and UCC Sun Demons (1989-92) after starring at St. Ann’s Academy where he was a BC A High School First team All-star in 1989. Paul coached the Sa-Hali Senior Boys Basketball team from 2007-14 and has held many Basketball BC coaching positions including at the Okanagan Regional Training Center. In 2014, he teamed up with former WolfPack assistant Joe Enevoldson to lead the Team BC U16 boys to a national championship. Paul is married to Taya and they have two amazing children Theo (4) and Sloane (2). TALLON MILNE: ASSISTANT COACH Tallon moves from the court to the sidelines this season after completing five years of CIS eligibility. He spent the last three seasons (2012-15) with the WolfPack after playing two years at Simon Fraser University. Tallon is completing his Master’s Thesis in Science. The native of Vanderhoof, BC He enjoys working out and snowboarding. His favourite movie is Happy Gilmore starring Adam Sandler. Until this past summer, Tallon had worked as a forest fire fighter. TED MURRAY: ASSISTANT COACH This is Ted’s first year as assistant coach. However, Ted was previously an assistant coach for head coach Scott Clark with the Simon Fraser University Clan from 1997 to 1999, following four seasons as a team manager there from 1992 to 1996. Ted also worked with Coach Clark and former TRU assistant coach Mark Simpson as an apprentice coach Team BC U17 Boys in 2000 and 2001. Ted coached the Senior Boys at his high school alma mater, North Delta from 1999 to 2007 as an assistant coach for three seasons and head coach for five seasons. During that time, North Delta qualified for the AAA Provincials in 2001, 2002, and 2007 and came 2nd in the AAA Fraser Valleys in 2007. Ted went back to school to study law at UBC in 2007. He graduated in 2010 as the top all-around student and, after a judicial clerkship with the Supreme Court of British Columbia, practiced law at a downtown Vancouver firm from 2011 to 2015. Ted, his girlfriend Hayley, and their cat, Sophie, recently decided to relocate to Kamloops, where Ted looks forward to continuing his legal practice and working with Coach Clark in building a championship program at TRU. He is also teaching at the TRU Law School. He played volleyball until grade 11. Evan would like to go to medical school in the future. He likes to read. Evan’s favorite food is steak. His greatest sports moment came in the Okanagan Semi finals in grade 121 when he scored 38 points to help his team advance to the finals. He played on the Team BC U-16 squad, was named an Okanagan All-Star and was named his school’s top athlete. Coach Clark says: “He is an intelligent basketball player and a hard worker. Those two things will make him have a level of success in the future. He needs to work on his body a little bit.” 3 MIKE ROUAULT (ROO-ALT) Vernon, BC (Clarence Fulton Secondary) 6’6” Guard 1st year (Science) 18 years old Parents’ names: Debbie & Dave Mike transferred to TRU after attending school at UBCO in Kelowna, BC last season. Mike is the younger brother of now ‘Pack basketball alumna Brett. He attended high school with fellow TRU athletes Finlay MacPhie and Mike Bennett (both men’s soccer). Mike says his biggest influence is actor Will Ferrel. His greatest sports moment was scoring a game winning basket in grade 10 against Vernon Secondary. His favorite movie is ‘Semi Pro’. Mike’s favorite food are pancakes and his favorite color is red. He enjoys playing other sports with friends (Football, Tennis). Coach Clark says: “Michael has a bunch of skills that a lot of 6’6” kids don’t have. He sat out last year so it will take him a little bit to get going. He is a guy who can help us down the road. As it is with all first year guys, he needs to improve a bit physically. When he does he will make an impact.” 4 JEFF TUBBS Kelowna, BC (Mount Boucherie Secondary) 6’3” Guard 1st year (General Studies) 18 years old Parents’ names: Sheri & Dennis Jeff committed to the WolfPack in the fall of 2014. He played on Basketball BC for two years under the direction of esteemed high school coach Rich Chambers. Jeff played varsity volleyball in high school as well. After his signing with TRU, he and his father were frequent visitors to the Tournament Capital Centre the rest of the season. Coach Clark says: “Jeff is a really neat guy that he is 6’4” and has guard skills. There are not too many 6’4” guards out there. Physically he has to improve like all first year players but I like his size and ability to handle the ball. I like his skills. Two things: experience and maturing physically are the only things holding him back right now. He has a bright future with us.” 5 REESE PRIBILSKY Victoria, BC (Oak Bay Secondary) 6’0” Guard 5th year (General Studies) 22 years old Parents’ names: Sue & Todd Reese is one of the three fifth year players on the WolfPack this year. He played two years (2010-12) in Victoria before transferring to TRU. He is the younger brother of TRU assistant coach Kevin. Reese played on Team BC while in high school. He started in all 20 league games last year, averaging 31.6 minutes (20 th in Canada West) and 12.9 points. He averaged 3.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists (fifth in Canada West) and 2.1 steals (seventh in Canada West) per game. His favorite visiting gym is UVIC because it’s his home town. Reese’s favorite community events are the Terry Fox Runs in the elementary schools because he gets to speak to children. He worked this summer for the local Coca Cola distributor. He is the ‘poster boy’ for TRU men’s basketball this season. Coach Clark says: “Reese is a guy who has a very good skill package. He has very good leadership skills and had a level of success at every level he has played at. We will rely heavily upon him this year.” 6 JUSTIN MASON Surrey, BC (Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary) 6’2” Guard 1st year (Business) 19 years old Parents’ names: Kim & Jay Justin played for Team BC in 2012. His greatest influence is his father for always pushing him to do his best. In the future, Justin would like to be an accountant. His greatest sports moment came when he helped his school team end a 62 year drought by making it to the provincial basketball championships. Coach Clark says:” We recruited him late. He has a big upside. He has to understand what it takes to be an athlete in terms of training. I like the way he cuts and his understanding of the game of basketball. Youth and inexperience and physical development are the three things he has to work on for the future.” 7 MAURICIO (ALBERT) MEDRANO Los Altos, California (Mountainview Academy) 6’1” Guard 2nd year (Business) 22 years old Parents’ names: Alica & Norman Albert played last season at Gavilan College (Gilroy, California) for the Rams where they went 3-22 last season in the California Community College Athletic Association. He started in all 25 games they played in last season averaging 9.9 points per game. He had 94 assists, 37 steals, 121 defensive rebounds (140 total). He had two blocks and was 18-25 from the free throw line. He enjoys snowboarding. Coach Clark says: “ Albert is a late recruit. He has the ability to stand and make a jump shot. He doesn’t mind sticking his nose in there trying to guard and be physical. We are going to need both those things from him over the course of the year.” 8 LUKE MORRIS Mission, British Columbia (Mission Secondary) 6’5” forward 3rd year (Computer Science) 21 years old Parents’ names: Rani & Peter Luke made his debut with the WolfPack last season after red shirting in 2013-14. He played the previous year with the University of the Fraser Valley. He started two of 19 games he was in the lineup in 2014-15, averaging 12.1 minutes, 4.2 points per game, 3.3 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocks. He was the MVP of the BC “AA” championships in 2012 and named MVP) of the provincial all-star game. He was a BC “AA” First Team all-star in 2011 and 2012. Luke played intermediate “A” lacrosse in Port Coquitlam and midget “A” hockey in Mission. He loves the fans at the Tournament Capital Centre and his favorite visiting gym is UNBC where they have a good atmosphere. Luke enjoys the community activities the WolfPack are involved in. His favorite community event is the Terry Fox Run. Luke’s favorite visiting gym is UNBC because of their energetic fans. Coach Clark says: “Luke is now in his second year with the program. He made some pretty good strides last year and we are looking at him to grow even more this year. He has the ability to shoot. Physically he is pretty good. He can rebound the basketball. He plays his best basketball when he is active on the offensive side of the glass. He is a third year player but four years out of high school. We expect him to contribute quite a bit.” 8 GERARD GORE St. John’s, Antiqua (Ottos Comprehensive) 6’5” Guard 5th year (Computer Science) 25 years old Parents’ names: Janice & Thomas Gerard is one of three fifth year players with the WolfPack this year. Gerard appeared in 18 games last season averaging 12.1 minutes, 4.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks. His greatest sports moment came when he played for the Antiqua National Team. His favorite visiting gym is UNBC because of their great crowd. Gerard loves helping out at the Terry Fox Community Run because he gets to eat free pancakes. Gerard worked at Lyons Landscaping this past summer as well as working at the TRU/ McDonald’s Sports Camps. Coach Clark says: “ Gerard has been banged up early on in the year. We expect big things from Gerard when he gets healthy. He is active on the glass. He runs hard. He does all the dirty jobs that might not show up on a box score.” 9 KYLER ECKESS (KY-LER ECK-ISS) Prince Rupert, BC (Charles Hays Secondary) 5’9” Guard 1st year (Arts) 17 years old Parents’ names: Cynthia & Ryan Kyler made the WolfPack as a walk on. His high school team won their zone championship this year and were third at provincials. His biggest influences are his brother Russell who helped him learn the game and Jacob Thom . If Kyler could dine with a celebrity it would be either Stephan Curry, Michael Jordan or Phil Jackson and he would ask them for advice. His favorite colors are orange and blue. His pre-game routine is left sock then right sock followed by right shoe then left shoe. If Kyler could be on a reality show it would be either “Cops”, “Maury” or “The Voice”. If he could be on another TRU varsity team it would be Soccer. His fondest sports moment was starting on the same team as his uncle. Coach Clark says: “ A walk on out of Prince Rupert. A very good skill package. Has been well coached. He is a really nice young man. We are really happy to have him on the team.” 10 EVAN HELGASON Kamloops, BC (Norkam Secondary) 6’4” Guard 1st year (General Studies) 19 years old Parents’ names: Susan & Dave Evan committed to the WolfPack in April, 2015. He spent last season at the Elev8 Sports Institute (a Prep School in Delray Beach, Florida). He was coached at the U-14 level by current WolfPack assistant coach Paul Patterson. Evan’s favorite actor is Jim Carrey. He enjoys working out along with spending time with family and friends. His favorite color is red. Former high school teammate Jeremy Bosher is playing lacrosse at the University of Denver. His greatest sports moment thus far was committing to the WolfPack. Evan’s dad played Junior Hockey in Manitoba and is a realtor in town. Coach Clark says: “ A very good athlete. His understanding of the game is coming. You can’t teach Athleticism or size. He has a pretty good skill package. He just has to develop a feel and understanding both offensively and defensively. When he does his impact on the game will be felt.” 11 PERRY TERRELL Prince Rupert, BC (Charles Hays Secondary) 6’2” Guard 1st year (General Studies) 17 years old Parent name: Perry Terrell Sr. Perry made the team as a walk on. He played high school ball with current teammate Kyler Eckess. He enjoys swimming, football and playing NBA 2K. If he could dine with a celebrity it would be Micheal Jordan. His favorite actor is Chris Tucker. Perry’s favorite color is red. His fondest sports moment was playing in the BC 3”A” high school basketball finals. If he could play another sport it would be football because he thinks it’s an energetic sport played with so much emotion. Perry’s father is American. Coach Clark says: “Another guy from Prince Rupert who walked on. He can stand there and make a shot. But like all the other young guys, he needs to work on his body and his fitness. He can shoot the basketball and a nice kid.” 14 JOSH WOLFRAM Kamloops, BC (South Kamloops Secondary) 6’10” Forward 5th year (Business) 23 years old Parents’ names: Jane & Mike Josh has the distinction of being the first TRU athlete ever to compete at the World University Games. He was part of Team Canada which finished seventh. He was a Canada West first team all-star in 2014-15 where he was fourth in the league in rebounding (9.9 per game average), third in three point percent (45.8), sixth in total rebounds (158) and points per game (18), 13 th in blocks (16) and second in the league in points per 40 minutes (25.4). He was the ‘poster boy’ for TRU men’s basketball for two years (2013-14 and 2014-15). Josh played two seasons at the University of Calgary before transferring here. His mother Jane played CIS basketball at Victoria and was a member of the National team. His Father Mike played CIS football at Alberta and played in the CFL for the Calgary Stampeders. Josh’s sister Emma is playing NCAA Div I basketball at Gonzaga and has played for the national junior team program. His fondest sports moment came this summer at the opening ceremonies of the 2015 Gwangja Universaide. Josh Loves movies. His favorite actor is Will Ferrell and his favorite actress is Olivia Munn. Josh’s favorite community event is “Raise a Rader” and his favorite opposition gym is UNBC for the fans. Coach Clark says: “Had a really good summer playing for the World University Games team. He has grown in each and every year in terms of fitness, skill package, confidence and his understanding. Josh played good basketball last year, I know you will see him play even better basketball this year.” 15 VOLODYMYR IEGOROV (E-GOR-EE-OV) Kyiv, Ukraine (Donetsk Olympic School) 6’8” Forward 3rd year (Masters-Business) 24 years old Parents’ names: Perova & Oleg Volodymyr committed to the WolfPack in July 2015. He was a member of the Ukraine national U-20 team in 2011. But last year played for MBC Nikolaev and BC Dmipro-Azet in Russia. His greatest sports moment when he was part of the team which won the European U-20 championship in Billio, Spain. He would like to be a police officer in the future. Volodymyr likes to drive. His favorite food are fish and streak. Volodymyr’s favorite movie is ‘Brother’. His celebrity crush is Maghan Markle. His biggest influence is his father. Coach Clark says: “ Vlad is a very big bodied guy who has perimeter skills. Has very good ball skills. He has played a lot of basketball and has a very good understanding of the game.
