Did you know that six out of ten girls will stop doing what
they love because they feel bad about the way they look?
GSUSA, in partnership with the World Association of Girl Guide and Girl
Scouts (WAGGGS) and Dove, has launched Free Being Me, a global leadership program developed to give girls a safe
space to strengthen their self-confidence. Using the It's Your Story, Tell It! Journeys, together with the Free Being Me
curriculum, girls explore issues of beauty and body confidence and build their leadership skills.
These exciting new activities center around a topic that girls are anxious to explore and are excited to Take Action on.
• Do you have an event coming up? Think about exploring issues related to body confidence utilizing these cutting
edge activities!
• Do your girls love their It's Your Story, Tell It! Leadership Journey? They can take the themes of beauty and body
confidence further through Free Being Me activities.
• Are your girls interested in exploring ideas of global beauty? Are they looking to make a connection with girls
around the world? Girls around the world are participating in the Free Being Me activities, become a part of the
movement!
Be a part of the 1.5 million US girls participating in FBM! Help us reach our goal by filling out the form here to
download the Free Being Me curriculum at no cost:
http://www.girlscouts.org/who_we_are/our_partners/initiatives/freebeingme/default.asp.
Included in the download are:
• Activities for girls ages 7-14
• The Free Being Me leader guide
• A teaser activity to get girls engaged and interested in themes of global beauty
Free Being Me patches are also available for your girls who have completed the Free Being Me activities and a Take
Action project! The patches are free. You can pick them up at your local GSHG office or we will mail them to you for a
small fee. Complete this form to order your free patches https://gshg.wufoo.com/forms/free-being-me/ . Any
questions? Email [email protected].
Travel Pathway – GSHG is proud to announce the launch of the Travel Pathway. This avenue for participation in Girl
Scouts is especially for Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors and their troops (and in some cases their parents). The
GSHG Travel Pathway has three main focus areas:
1. District or council wide trips led by district volunteers (hooray for our
travel volunteers!). Our first one is an overnight trip to the Riverbanks Zoo in
Columbia, South Carolina, over the holiday break in December. The
th
deadline to register is November 15 , and the flyer is attached. Register at
www.gshg.org.
2. United States domestic trips: for Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors.
First up is Key West! This summer (2016), travel to Key West, Florida, stay
in a resort, take the ferry ride and visit Dry Tortugas National Park, and
enjoy all the beach and beauty that south Florida offers. Information
attached.
3. International travel with EF Tours: GSHG is proud to announce a
partnership with EF Tours, starting in summer of 2017. We’ll be offering Girl
Scout Seniors and Ambassadors an international trip each summer, beginning with London and Paris in 2017
(tour website: http://www.eftours.com/previewtour.aspx?pt=1752552CW&utm_source=RecCenter&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=SharedLink ) and Costa
Rica in 2018 (tour website: http://www.eftours.com/previewtour.aspx?pt=1752566KF&utm_source=RecCenter&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=SharedLink ). Adults
