Information about the program in its early years is scarce, but in recent years Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant, Inc. has taken great strides in becoming a strong and successful youth oriented organization, providing a program for Oregon horsewomen that encourages positive growth in strength of character and personality, healthy attitudes, self-fulfillment and self-respect. It’s not by mistake that in recent years the success of the Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant, Inc. has yielded national accolades. The strength of our state program is most notably recognized at the national level. Oregon has had many Top 10, Top 5, Runners-Up, and winners of the title of Miss Rodeo America provided by Miss Rodeo America Inc. Serving as the nation’s top cowgirl representing the sport 2011 Miss Rodeo Orego n & for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and receives any state scholarships in 2012 M iss Ro deo Am eric a addition to the $20,000+ given by the Miss Rodeo America Scholarship Foundation. Mackenzie’s comments in a May 2014 issue of Miss Rodeo America News regarding the Mackenzie Carr (Ivie) educational opportunities afforded through the world of rodeo’s ambassadors; “Upon receiving the title of Miss Rodeo America 2012 I received $26,000 in scholarships, I have been able to pay off my student loans as well as the remainder of my tuition costs, I will not only graduate debt free, but as the first member of my immediate family to earn a Bachelor’s degree” MROP, Inc. is organized and conducted to select the most qualified young Oregon horsewoman to promote the sport of professional rodeo in Oregon, and to represent the State of Oregon at the annual Miss Rodeo America Pageant. Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant Inc. Purpose The Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant is an organization made up of volunteers who believe in the advancement of Oregon youth. Through the Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant young women from the State of Oregon have the opportunity to promote Oregon and professional rodeo, utilizing their public relations skills and public speaking abilities Motto In 2004 then 1st Vice President Amber Riesterer created and MROP.Inc Executive Board adopted the corporation motto of Educate, Elevate, & Inspire. Mission Statement The Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant, Inc. works to promote a positive image of rodeo, while preserving our western heritage through education, leadership development, and personal growth with the highest level of integrity. Information about the program in its early years is scarce, but in recent years Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant, Inc. (MROP, Inc.) has taken great strides in becoming a strong and successful youth oriented organization that is able to provide a program for Oregon horsewomen, that encourages positive growth in strength of character and personality, healthy attitudes, self-fulfillment and self-respect. As Oregon’s “First Lady of Professional Rodeo,” Miss Rodeo Oregon will attend rodeos sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), and will appear at community events and parades throughout the State of Oregon and western United States. It is estimated that she will make 60 appearances and travel over 20,000 miles throughout her yearlong reign. Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant, Inc. is organized and conducted to select the most qualified young Oregon horsewoman to promote the sport of professional rodeo in Oregon and to represent the State of Oregon at the annual Miss Rodeo America Pageant through an annual state pageant. Oregon towns and cities have played a vital role in helping the organization maintain its goals with their wonderful hospitality and generosity. Many of Oregon’s premier cities and towns have played host to the annual pageant such as Pendleton, Vale, La Grande, Sisters, Roseburg, Hillsboro, Prineville and St. Paul. Providing our titleholders with the tools they need to have a successful reign has always been important to MROP, Inc. Throughout the history of the organization titleholders have received awards such as saddles, trophy buckles, luggage, and chaps. In 2003, MROP, Inc. awarded their first educational scholarship in the amount of $1000 to help titleholders in their future educational endeavors, and are currently giving a $1500 scholarship to contestants named Miss Rodeo Oregon and $500 to the first runner up in each pageant. At the end of her year of reign, Miss Rodeo Oregon travels to Las Vegas, Nevada, to compete for the title of Miss Rodeo America during a week-long competition against other state titleholders. In 1958 the first Miss Rodeo Oregon was crowned Miss Rodeo America, however declined for personal reasons, since then we have had numerous top-10 and top-5 finishers, and category award winners. It was not until 2011 when Mackenzie Carr, 2011 Miss Rodeo Oregon was announced as 2012 Miss Rodeo America that December in Las Vegas, NV. Horsemanship Category Award from the 1993 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. 1958 1958 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Judy (Lazinka) Currin is the crowned Miss Rodeo America, but declines the opportunity for personal reasons. With the award Sara receivesd a Tex-Tan saddle sponsored by AQHA and an educational scholarship from the Miss Rodeo America Scholarship Foundation. 1975 1993-1994 1975 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Linda (Cloepfil) Boline makes a Top Ten finish at the 1976 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. 1976 1974 National High School Rodeo Queen, Julie (Rugg) Williams of Athena is crowned Miss Rodeo Oregon 1977. 1977 1977 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Julie (Rugg) Williams of Athena is 1st Runner Up at the 1978 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. 1978 A perpetual custom silver crown is designed and created by Gist Silversmiths. 1978 Deanna (McRae) Brandt, of Eugene is the first Miss Rodeo Oregon to wear the crown. 1989 State Delegate to Miss Rodeo America is Vicki Beck of Sutherlin (1989 & 1990). 1990 Sally Leavitt of Sisters is elected President of Miss Rodeo Oregon (1990 The Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant moves to Hillsboro, OR in conjunction with the Washington County Fair and Rodeo. Two titleholders are selected. Michelle (Holliday) McMichael of Prineville is crowned Miss Rodeo Oregon 1993 (in July) and attends the Miss Rodeo America Pageant in December of 1993. The second young lady Kitty (Sharp) Lauman, also of Prineville, is selected Miss Rodeo Oregon 1994 for the holdover title beginning her reign January 1,1994. 1993 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Michelle (Holliday) McMichael is awarded the Congeniality Category Award at the 1994 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. 1995 1995 Miss Rodeo Oregon Vanessa Owenby Spier of Roseburg reigned as Miss Rodeo Oregon. 1996 The Miss Rodeo Oregon Association moves the pageant from Hillsboro to Prineville to be held in conjunction with the annual Crooked River Round Up. 1996 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Tanya Marie Utberg of Barton is awarded 1st Place in the Table Display Division at the 1997 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. 1997 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Teah (Jones) Evans of Lostine is 2nd Runner Up at that the 1998 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. 1998 The Oregon Queen, the official publication of Miss Rodeo Oregon is created and published quarterly by Editor Brianna Taylor. 1999 1999 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Ellie (Webb) Timinsky of The Dalles claims 4th Runner Up at the 2000 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. 2000 New Bylaws are adopted and the name of the organization is changed from Miss Rodeo Oregon Inc. to Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant, Inc. Stephanie Hedin (Crop), of Gaston reigned as 2000 Miss Rodeo Oregon. 2001 Desiree Damewood (Hammett) of Roseburg reigned as Miss Rodeo Oregon 2002 Shae Frazier (Pharr) reigned as 2002 Miss Rodeo Oregon 2003 Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant, Inc., goes online! www.missrodeooregon.org 2003 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Marla Meadows of St. Helens makes a Top Ten finish at the 2004 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant Inc. holds the first Miss Jr & Teen Rodeo Oregon Pageant in Sublimity at the Santiam Canyon Stampede and selects the 2005 Jr. Miss Rodeo Oregon, Molly Stubblefield of Roseburg and the 2005 Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon, Rachel Swanson of Scappoose. She also takes home 2 nd Place in the State Table Division, 2nd Place in the Scrapbook Division and is awarded the Western Regional Scholarship by the Miss Rodeo America Scholarship Foundation. 2009 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Jackie Gibson of Milwaukie reigns as Miss Rodeo Oregon 2006 A new perpetual custom crown is designed, created and sponsored by former Miss Rodeo Oregon, Vicki Christensen-Felder of Frontier Trophy Buckles. The Gist Silversmiths crown is officially retired and will be displayed in a shadow box for viewing at all MROP, Inc. Pageants & Events. The MROP, Inc. Scholarship Committee increases the 2007 Miss Rodeo Oregon’s educational scholarship to $1500, and for the first time awards the pageant’s 1st Runner Up an educational scholarship in the amount of $500. 2006 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Trena Loftesness of Sherwood brings home 2nd Place in the Scrapbook Division from the 2007 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. 2007 2007 Miss Rodeo Oregon Jennifer Tickner (Steffen) of Silverton reigned as Miss Rodeo Oregon The Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant, Inc. Scholarship Committee increases the titleholder’s educational scholarship to $1500 and awards the pageants 1st Runner Up $500. 2008 2008 Miss Rodeo Oregon, Nicole Andrews of Scappoose makes a Top Ten finish at the 2009 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. She also takes home 4 th Place in the Scrapbook Division and is awarded the Western Regional Scholarship by the Miss Rodeo America Scholarship Foundation. 2010 Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant, Inc. launches its brand new website! Cassie from CS designs updated our website Ashley Ziegler reigned as the 2010 Miss Rodeo Oregon and finished in the Top 10 at 2011 Miss Rodeo America Pageant held in Las Vegas, Nevada. 2011 2011 Miss Rodeo Oregon Mackenzie Carr, wins the title of Miss Rodeo America in Las Vegas, Nevada. While not the first to win the title, Mackenzie is the first Oregon born to both win and reign as Miss Rodeo America. As Miss Rodeo Oregon, I will be representing our great state, as well as the sport of rodeo throughout the country. In addition to traveling all over Oregon, I will be flying across the United States, traveling over 30,000 miles. I will make numerous appearances at major Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) parades and rodeos, local schools, businesses, and civic functions throughout the year. At the conclusion of my reign in December, I will compete for the coveted title of Miss Rodeo America during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR) held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Julie Drescher is the 23-year-old daughter of Dan and Jodi Drescher of St. Paul, Oregon. Her family consists of two older sisters, and a younger brother, along with a large extended family. Born and raised in the small town of St. Paul, Julie attended Parochial School and High School in the local district. Growing up, she was always an active member of her community. Julie participated in St. Paul Parish activities, St. Paul Booster club fundraisers, represented her high school as an accomplished three-sport athlete and was also a princess on the 2011 St. Paul Rodeo Court. After completing her prerequisite credits at the University of Oregon, she transferred to Western Oregon University and completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Education, Special Education, and Communications. Julie is currently taking graduate courses at Western Oregon University in the field of Special Education to eventually become a Special Education teacher. Additionally, Julie is also working as a substitute teacher for the Silver Falls School District. In her free time, Julie enjoys hunting, fishing, riding her horses, and hanging out with friends and spending time with family.
