• The optimization of transportation and logistics chains by combining the various
transport modes
3
Solution
Port of Duisburg and Port of Antwerp strengthen
their intermodal cooperation
Renewed Memorandum of Understanding on 4th of July 2013:
– qualitative reinforcement of the logistic corridor between the ports (reduced
intermodal transit times)
– improved connections between Port of Antwerp and the railway system for which
Duisburg is a central hub in the West.
Port of Duisburg and Port of Antwerp strengthen
their intermodal cooperation
Active collaboration between Port of Antwerp Intermodal Solutions and duisport agency on:
– The development of the Antwerp – Duisburg axis as one of the most important logistic
corridors in Europe with:
» daily barge connections (15 hours)
» fixed-day rail departures and arrivals (6 hours)
– Further developing the Antwerp-Duisburg-Vienna shuttle, Vienna being an important
gate to the Central- and East-European rail markets
– Electronic data exchange such as E-Desk
– Extended gateway
Exchange and joint advice on possible investment projects in both ports:
– In the past, the Port of Duisburg already took a stake in the container terminal
Antwerp Gateway on the left bank of the river Scheldt.
Port of Duisburg and Port of Antwerp strengthen
their intermodal cooperation
