About the
Northeast-10 Conference
The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division II conference that was established in 1979.
The conference consists of 15 member institutions
located throughout the Northeast in the states of
Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
New York, and Vermont.
The institutions that make up the Northeast-10
include Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.),
American International College (Springfield,
Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.),
Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Franklin
Pierce University (Rindge, N.H.), Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), Merrimack College (North
Andover, Mass.), University of New Haven (West
Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville,
N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.),
Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), The
College of Saint Rose (Albany, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University (New Haven,
Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College
(Easton, Mass.). The 15 member institutions are
spread geographically from Syracuse, N.Y. to
Waltham, Mass. and Colchester, Vt. to Garden

women’s basketball, women’s cross country, field
hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s
soccer, women’s soccer, women’s track and field,
and men’s and women’s swimming and diving.
In all, 80 different Northeast-10 Conference teams
were selected to participate in NCAA Championship play during the 2012-13 academic year. The
80 programs represented 15 of the 16 conference
institutions.
From the field of play to inside the classroom,
the Northeast-10 honored a number of studentathletes for their academic accomplishments.
Over 50 percent of all conference student-athletes
earned a 3.0 GPA throughout the 2012-13
academic year and were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a result.
Today’s Northeast-10 Conference remains
focused on complementing the academic integrity
and missions of its member institutions with a
commitment to a broad-based championship
program, as evidenced by the 23 sports the
conference offers in championship play, the most
such of any Division II conference.
Many of the members are located in or around the
metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, Manchester, New Haven, Worcester, and New York City.
The conference was proud to welcome the New
Haven and Adelphi in its latest expansion, adding
to the powerful union of strong academic and
athletic institutions.
Through the establishment and enforcement of
regulations, the conference aims to encourage policies that enable intercollegiate athletics programs
to contribute to and be considered an integral part
of the total educational offerings at our member
institutions. The Northeast-10 can look to a long
history of success including the growth from

Prior to the 2011 season, Purdie had his most successful season at the helm of the
Panthers in 2010, guiding the squad to a 10-5 overall record. In their first season in
the Northeast-10, Purdie led the Panthers to a 7-3 record in league play. The Brown
and Gold ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak, earning the third
seed in the conference tournament. Adelphi defeated St. Anselm at home in the quarterfinals, 11-8, only to lose to #7 Merrimack in the semifinals, 14-3. Senior Kevin
Kemp and sophomore Danny Blau received First-Team All-NE-10 honors while junior Daniel Gill earned Second-Team kudos and Jeff Melsopp was named to the
All-Rookie Team. Kemp also received ECAC Division II Men’s Lacrosse All-Star
First-Team honors as well as being selected to play in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/LaxWorld North-South All-Star Game.
The 2009 season saw a 3-8 record, 1-5 in conference action. However, there were
accolades that highlighted the season which included three players on the All-Conference teams. Eddie Ege defended his spot as statistical leader in assists in Division
II while teammate Andrew Ashkenazy ranked second in the nation in face-off win
percentage with 66.2 percent. Senior Donny Moss went on to be selected 39th overall
in the MLL draft by the Long Island Lizards.
In the 2008 season, Purdie led the Panthers to a 7-5 overall record, 3-3 in ECC play.
He was also named ECC Coach of the year while coaching three players to ECC AllConference awards including Edward Ege, the ECC Player of the year. In addition, he
also produced two All-Americans and NCAA Statistical Champions.

Purdie, a member of the Australian World Games team before arriving at Adelphi,
made his mark as a two-time All-America selection. He played three years for the
Panthers, from 1987-89, helping the team to two NCAA Division I Tournament appearances. He appears in numerous Adelphi DI records, including first in single-season ground balls (109) and second in career ground balls (269). He also appears in
the top-ten in single season and career assists and points.
His post-collegiate career included playing seven times for the Australian Lacrosse
World team. He also played for the New York Saints (1990-99), New Jersey Storm
(2002-03) and the Anaheim Storm (2004), playing in over 100 professional indoor
lacrosse games. In 1994 he was named Best Midfielder at the World Games. He has
twice appeared in the ILF World Championships (2003, 2007) and was inducted into
the Adelphi Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.
On July 18, 2007, Gordon Purdie ‘88 was named the sixth head lacrosse coach in

Purdie and the men’s lacrosse team completed another successful season in 2012.
The team posted a 13-3 overall record with an 8-2 mark in the NE-10. As defending

Division II player to be selected in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse draft, and was
picked up by the Charlotte Hounds with the 57th pick overall.
2011 was a special and record breaking season for Purdie and the Panthers. Purdie
led Adelphi to the program’s first Northeast-10 Championship with a 13-8 win over
Merrimack in the NE-10 Tournament Championship game. He also guided Adelphi
to a program record for wins in a season at 16 (the previous mark was 13, set back
in 1979).

Purdie also had the Panthers back in the National Championship game for the first
time since 2001, when Adelphi won it’s last Division II title. Seven players were
named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference team, including Eric Janssen, who was

Motamed
Field
In 2008, Adelphi University announced the naming of its athletic competition field, part of its new outdoor sports stadium, in
recognition of the generous support and leadership of its Board
of Trustees Chairman, Thomas F. Motamed, Class of 1971.
The Outdoor Sports Complex features Motamed Field, which
is the home for the Adelphi men’s and women’s soccer,
lacrosse and field hockey programs.
-Adjacent to the Motamed Field is a practice space.
-The tennis courts are located just beyond this field and anchors the complex in one contiguous area.
-All-weather surface material to allow for year-round practice
and competition.
-Four main light standards help illuminate the field for evening training and competition, as well as working media and
game operations.
-A heated/air-conditioned Press Box is located at the top of
the stadium seats. Located midfield, the press box accommodates sports information, working media and game operations, which maintains the scoreboard and public address
sound system.
Motamed Field was the site of the 2011 NCAA Division II and
III women’s lacrosse championship. It also played host to the
2010 and 2011 Northeast-10 Women’s Lacrosse Championships
and the 2011 Northeast-10 Men’s Lacrosse Championship.
-The Panthers’ live in-game stats of soccer, lacrosse and field
hockey events originates out of the press box.
-Addition of a one-level parking structure for over 300 cars
below the field.

Panther All-Americans
The Panthers have a long tradition of receiving All-American honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). Since the first nod in 1953, up until the present season, the Brown
and Gold has continued to place player after player into the history books.
The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) is an organization comprised of member
colleges and universities which sponsor intercollegiate lacrosse for men.
The Association is entrusted to enhance and develop intercollegiate lacrosse by providing leadership,
management, and services to its membership so that student-athletes, coaches, and other constituent groups
will realize the maximum benefit from the sport of lacrosse.
