Your Parks & Recreation Activity Guide
July - December 2016
FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK
Summer is Here!
While we finally enjoyed a mild winter there is nothing better than summer in central Ohio.
The skies have cleared, the sun has risen and it is time to celebrate the season.
In his book, “Twelve Moons of the Year” Hal Borland wrote, “July is the first real month of
summer, the pause toward which all the haste and energy of spring were hurrying us. The
pressure eases, now in all growing things; and man is invited to ease his pressures too.”
I invite you to enjoy the season by taking part in some of the wonderful programs our Parks &
Recreation Program has to offer. From adult sports leagues to youth arts; from sports to
leisure, our Parks catalog has it all. Make the most of this season by getting and staying
active.
Let me also take this opportunity to say how proud I am to be your Mayor. I invite you to stop
by¸ call or e-mail me with your thoughts and concerns. On behalf of my staff at City Hall, I wish
you a happy, safe and wonderful summer.

tree from a local nursery.
•The Parks & Recreation Department will plant the tree.
•A specific site may be requested and the staff will make every attempt to honor the request. In the
event no site is specified, or the donor’s request cannot be accommodated, the staff will determine a
planting site.

The Importance of Trees
*
Did you Know?
A large tree in the Midwest will provide $3,790 in environmental and other benefits over
its lifetime. That’s over a 250% return on investment!
Properly cared for, trees are valuable and growing assets worth over two and a half
times the investment. Trees produce benefits for us when we plant and nurture them in
our urban environments.
Healthy trees mean:
Healthy people
Each year, 100 large, mature street trees
•Remove 27 tons of carbon dioxide
•Remove 259 pounds of other air pollutants
•Catch about 216,200 gallons of rainwater
Healthy communities
Tree-filled neighborhoods
•Report lower levels of domestic violence
•Are safer and more sociable
•Reduce stress of body and mind
•Decrease need for medication, and speed recovery times
Homeowner savings
One well-placed large tree
•Provides average savings of $31 in home heating
costs each year
Better business
In tree-lined commercial districts, shoppers report
•More frequent shopping
•Longer shopping trips
•Willingness to pay more for parking
•Willingness to spend 12 percent more on goods
Higher property values
Trees increase the resale value of houses
•Each large front yard tree adds 1% to the sale price of a house
•Large specimen trees can add 10% to property value

People over 55 years old have more chance of stroke, and the risk gets greater as you
get older. Men, African Americans and people with diabetes or heart disease are the
most at risk for stroke. About 6.6 million people who have had strokes are alive today.
To protect yourself and your loved ones from the serious effects of stroke, you should:

Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the confidence
of young athletes through proper technique and
refining the essential skills of the game. Golf is a
challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes
need proper focus on the fundamentals of form,
swinging, putting, and body positioning. To assist
in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG
(Starting New At Golf) system which uses modified
equipment in its curriculum developed by PGA
professionals. SNAG is specifically designed for the
entry-level player. It simplifies instruction so that
young players can make an easy and effective
transition onto the golf course. All equipment is
provided. For safety reasons, we keep the
instructor to camper ratio for this program very
low. As a result, this program fills up quickly.
Registration for this program is now open.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Promote your business and reach a large target
audience through a Seasonal Sports Team
Sponsorship. The Reynoldsburg Parks &
Recreation Department Program Guide targets
the child, family and senior markets. Twice a
year, copies of the Reynoldsburg Parks &
Recreation Department Program Guide will be
distributed to schools, city facilities, businesses
and Parks & Recreation events.
Think Locally. Our program participants embrace
all things locally and are now, more than ever,
traveling, playing and buying closer to home.
Become a Partner. Local business partnerships
retain more consumer dollars spent locally than
outside the community. Consumer Sponsorship
dollars are a better investment by local
businesses who seek out partnerships that fit
their audience demographic in the communities
they serve.
We don’t just sell packages, we create programs
that are tailored to both the needs of the sponsors
and the community they serve to create the
optimal experience for both.
By the Numbers. Last year 2,184 girls and boys
ages 4-14 participated in
organized team sports. An
estimated 13,000
individuals have
particpated or spectated
at an adult sports event.
Approximately 3,500
individuals have
participated in our
community involvement activities and special
events. The Parks & Recreation Department
offers a wide range of year-round recreational
classes for all ages. The local community is
invited to register for classes that include: Kids
in Karate, Dance, Babysitting, Tumbling classes,
quilt making, youth and adult art lessons and
youth and adult golf lessons, just to name a few.
Our Senior Center (SCOR) logs an estimated
52,000 visitors/members per year. This variety
allows your Sponsorship to target your specific
audience to reach your business goals.
