We goofed. We hate making mistakes, particularly when they lead to you making a mistake. We scrupulously edit all our patterns, but when an inaccuracy does slip through we post a correction as quickly as possible. Corrections for this book have been compiled in this PDF. If we’re aware of an error, we fix it before reprinting a book, so your edition may already include these changes. The corrections listed here should allow you to complete your project with ease. If not, give us a call at 800-426-3126 and we’ll do our best to help. And again, many apologies for the error. When we think of 1930s prints, our dear friend Mary Ellen Thiets comes to mind. Stitch three of the five white muslin 1½" strips together end to end. 2. Referring to “Adding Borders” (page 73), measure the quilt vertically through the center and cut two white muslin strips for the sides. Sew the strips to the quilt and press toward the border. 3. Measure the quilt and trim the remaining two strips for the top and bottom. Sew the strips to the top and bottom and press. 4. For the outer pieced border, mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of all 80 assorted 1930s print 3" squares. 5. Using 80 assorted 1930s print 3" squares and 80 red 3" squares, make 160 half-square-triangle units. Refer to “Creating Half-Square-Triangle Units” (page 71). Trim these units to measure 2½". bottom borders. Using the horizontal measurement from step 7, cut the top and bottom borders to fit, trimming equal amounts from each end. Add the red print 4½" corner squares to the ends of the borders; sew to the quilt top. Make 2. 2½" Make 160. 6. Join four half-square-triangle units to form a diamond unit, rotating the squares so that the red prints are on the outside corners, as shown. The units should measure 4½" x 4½". Make 40. Make 40. 7. Join 11 diamond units to form a side border. Add a red print 2" x 4½" rectangle to each end of the border. Make two. Measure the quilt through the center in both directions, including the inner borders, and write down the measurements. Cut the side border strips to fit the vertical measurement, trimming equal amounts from each end. Sew to the sides of your quilt and press toward the inner border. Finishing Your Quilt 1. Assemble the quilt sandwich and quilt as desired. 2. Use the red print 2¼" strips to make and attach double-fold binding. Make 2. 8. Join nine diamond units together; repeat to make two for the top and bottom borders. Add a red print 1½" x 4½" rectangle to each end of the top and Mary Ellen’s Glory Boxes 41
