Purpose
• To tell our story on how a collegiate state rivalry has
encouraged student leaders to communicate and
collaborate effectively.
Outcomes
• Educate peers on initiatives created to foster a
better relationships with two well-known rivals
• Take current concepts and ideas and implement
them on your respective campus
What Do We Have in Common?
A House Divided
Competition for a Cause
• Annual Food Fight
o Beat Bama Food Drive
o Beat Auburn Beat Hunger
• Started in 1994
• Collectively raised over 3 million lbs since it started
for the East and West Alabama Food Banks
Better Relations Day
• Established in 1948 with the University of Alabama
• Established in 1986 with the University of Georgia
• Student leaders from SGA and Omicron Delta
Kappa initiated the first BRD. This was essential in
letting the two athletic programs compete after a
40 year hiatus.
Better Relations Day
• Goal: To foster an environment of clean
sportsmanship and good student relations
• Share traditions and exchange of ideas
