Quite simply, the Sirion has been specifically designed to provide more space, more equipment, more manoeuvrability, and more economy than any other car in its class, with minimum impact on the environment. Stylish and compact and, with its small turning circle, it’s easy to drive and manoeuvre. And with its intelligent design, has a shorter engine compartment to give an unexpectedly big interior. Add the flexible seating and load layout, air conditioning (standard on all models) and a CD/Radio/MP3 audio system and you have a great car that is a pleasure to drive and own. The Sirion really is one car that meets most needs. Contents 4-5 Outside – compact and manoeuvrable 6-7 Inside – features and equipment 8-9 Inside – space and flexibility 10 - 11 More of a good thing 12 - 13 Technology – performance and economy 14 - 15 Safety – driver and passenger protection 16 - 17 Equipment – choice and practicality 18 - 19 Specifications – facts and figures 2 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli3 3 15/11/07 09:24:20 The Sirion looks so good from the outside; we guarantee you won’t be able to wait to get inside. And there’s a great range of models available to suit everyone. From the frugal but spirited 1.0 litre, the added power of the 1.3 litre or the flagship 1.5 litre SX. Sirion 1.0 S As happy on the open road as on crowded city streets, the Sirion offers the flexibility to comfortably deal with anything from the school run to the long drive to the holiday cottage. From swallowing the supermarket shopping, to accommodating the whole family in comfort. And compact isn’t just a model description: for the Sirion it’s a whole way of thinking. With parking spaces at a premium, and ever more crowded roads, the Sirion is designed from the wheels up to fill your needs, not fill up space. Sirion 1.0 SE DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli4 4 3 15/11/07 09:24:27 Outside curves and practicality Compact and manoeuvrable 4 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli5 5 15/11/07 09:24:53 Short nose and short overhangs are the key to maximising on interior space, whilst the compact form means you can also enjoy superb manoeuvrability and a smaller turning circle than others in its class. Whichever way you look at it, the Sirion is a supermini that really stands out. Sirion 1.3 SE Just look at the Sirion. And your first impressions? Probably something like: Modern, funky, spacious, versatile, comfortable, stylish, manoeuvrable, goes anywhere, fits in anywhere, economical, safe and loads of equipment, just to name a few. The compact body, together with its small turning circle, makes driving so much easier. Three point turns become two point turns and the level of manoeuvrability that the Sirion offers is second to none. A quick inspection of the Sirion demonstrates the famous Japanese build quality. Look closer, and you’ll notice the contrast between sharp, shape-defining lines and gentle, aerodynamic curves, that together create a distinctive, modern profile. Sirion 1.0 S The Sirion has a distinctive style that sets it apart. You can see it in every line and curve, and appreciate it from every angle. Sirion 1.3 SE 5 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli6 6 15/11/07 09:24:57 Inside equipped for anything features and equipment The Sirion has comfortable space in abundance. And just to make sure that you are really comfortable all Sirions are equipped with a height adjustable steering column and, with the exception of the 1.0 S, they all have driver’s seat height adjustment. The Sirion is full of equipment that has been sensibly designed. Take the radio/CD player for instance. No more groping for tiny buttons to change channels. No more looking for the volume control. The integrated radio/CD player has large, easy to see and easy to use controls. Seat height adjustment is simple and quick. So it’s easy to get comfortable (excludes 1.0 S). The height adjustable steering column means a personalised driving position. Seatbelt height adjusters are the finishing touch in creating a safe, bespoke seating position. 6 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli7 7 15/11/07 17:06:17 Illuminated electric window switches The instrument panel is mounted on the height adjustable steering column. This means that when you adjust the steering column for height the steering wheel never obscures the instruments. Centre storage tray Sun visor vanity mirror Centre storage box Front door with bottle holder Upper and lower glove box Seatback pocket Lower tray on passenger side Front floor console bottle holders Every Sirion also has air conditioning, electric power steering, electric windows front and rear, driver, passenger and side airbags, ABS with EBD – the list goes on and on... And if you want to play your MP3 player through the speakers then just simply plug it into the external AUX input. In addition to the odometer and trip meter, the current or average fuel consumption can be displayed on the LCD panel for your information. The integrated audio system looks as good as it sounds Play your iPod or MP3 player through the speakers. Simply plug your player into this AUX input, and enjoy. 7 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli8 8 15/11/07 17:07:01 Inside space to suit your needs space and flexibilty Rear Seat Reclining mode - The right and left split rear seat both offer a reclining backrest that allows rear passengers to relax and enjoy a more comfortable drive. Luggage Mode - When the rear seatbacks are folded forward, the luggage capacity is increased giving maximum luggage space for two people going on a long trip. There is no point in having space unless you can use it. And space in the wrong places is wasted space. So the Daihatsu Sirion doesn’t just give you interior space. It gives you flexible, versatile and useful space, giving you choices between passenger and load space or even different combinations of both. When the rear luggage space will comfortably accommodate two fully-loaded golf bags, a 60:40 split folding rear seat may seem almost superfluous. But if you ever need to carry something extra long, or find yourself with a lot of luggage of one kind or another, then you’ll appreciate the extra versatility and capacity that the Sirion’s various seat configurations give you. 8 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli9 9 15/11/07 09:26:45 Amazing leg room for rear seat passengers Height adjustable steering wheel The low level boot and high rise tailgate, plus a handy luggage lamp, make loading and unloading easy. Partial Luggage mode - With the 60:40 split rear seat, you can create space for longer items, whilst still leaving room for three passengers, simply by folding one of the seatbacks forward. Front seats at an optimum 590mm above ground not only ensure comfort, but also ease of access Wide opening doors make for easy entering and exiting 60:40 split rear seat for maximum versatility Long Cushion Mode - Pulling the rear seat cushion forward extends it into the leg room area, creating a flat space that can be used to keep unstable or fragile items from falling on the floor. Though the boot space of the Sirion can take plenty of luggage, the luggage doesn’t take priority. Thanks to the long wheelbase and some clever spatial engineering, our designers have created ample room for all types of luggage without forgetting the people. So even rear seat passengers will find there’s more than enough leg room for comfort, however long the journey. 9 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli10 10 15/11/07 09:27:22 More of a good thing it doesn’t get better than this sporty looks with added power There’s more to the Sirion than a compact package and multi-purpose flexibility. There’s also the potential for even more fun filled driving with the 1.5 SX. A powerful 1.5 litre engine with Twin Camshafts, 16 valves and Dynamic Variable Valve Timing makes sure that performance is optimised, together with fuel consumption and emissions. The engine of the Sirion 1.5 SX produces a respectable output of 102 bhp. For the manual gearbox this gives a brisk acceleration figure of 0 – 62 mph in 10.5 seconds. Fuel consumption is still an economical 45.6 mpg on the combined cycle whilst CO2 emissions remain low at 145 g/km. The self regenerating Super Intelligent Catalyst also enhances its environmental credentials. So the Sirion 1.5 SX isn’t a guilty pleasure – just a sheer pleasure to drive. 10 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli11 11 15/11/07 09:29:51 With the 1.5 SX you still get the great combination of a spacious interior housed in a compact shell. But this is complimented with red upholstery, which is further complimented by the glowing red illumination of the instrument panel. The SX retains all the great features of the standard Sirion models and then adds a few. To give it a really sporty look a rear spoiler and side skirts have been included. And then to complete the picture the 8 spoke alloy wheels and front fog lights just add those finishing touches. Stylish rear spoiler Sporty side stone guard Front fog lights as standard Smart black headlight housing Matching black rear light housing Vehicle Stability Control is also standard on the 1.5 SX just to give extra safety on the roads. 11 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli12 12 15/11/07 09:30:31 Technology for your world performance and economy 1.5 Engine 1.3 Engine 1.0 Engine Engine Performance Curve Engine Performance Curve Engine Performance Curve Daihatsu have been building engines since 1907 so you could say that they have some experience. Today our engines are reliable, fuel efficient, with low emissions and yet are amongst the most powerful in their class. So what makes these engines so special? One common factor is that they all use Dynamic Variable Valve Timing that optimises engine settings to give maximum performance at all times. The 1.0 litre engine features a revolutionary design that achieves an exceptionally small size and light weight. All of our engines use aluminium and advanced polymer plastics extensively, to cut down weight. Combine that with a smooth aerodynamic shape that has a CD value of 0.31, which cuts wind resistance to a minimum, reduces wind noise and helps achieve exceptional fuel economy and all of a sudden you have got a car that is designed to deliver more miles for your money than most other cars in its class could dream of. Taking up less space on the road, keeping fuel consumption and emissions low, using recyclable parts as much as possible Daihatsu cars try and keep any environmental impact on our world as low as possible. All the engines in the Sirion range are pretty much class leading engines. All employ Double Overhead Camshafts and Dynamic Variable Valve Timing to ensure optimum performance. The 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder, 12 valve engine gives 56.5 mpg on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of only 118g/km, meaning that this engine is in one of the lowest road tax bands. You could be forgiven for thinking this is all at the cost of performance, but with acceleration of 0-62 mph in 13.9 seconds, the Sirion 1.0 litre is still one of the fastest in its class, meaning safer overtaking. Need more power? Then try the 1.3 litre, 4 cylinder, 16 valve Sirion. With 48.7 mpg on the combined cycle, and emissions of 137g/km it is still kind on the pocket and also the planet. An acceleration time of 0-62 mph in 11.4 seconds is up with the best in its class. And if you want even more performance, then the 1.5 litre engine is for you. You’ll still get an economic 45.6 mpg on the combined cycle, and CO2 emissions remain low at 145g/km. All this is combined with a maximum output of over 100 bhp, meaning you get from 0-62 mph in just 10.5 seconds. Whatever your style of driving there is an engine to suit you. 12 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli13 13 15/11/07 09:31:31 Intelligent Catalyst for 1.0 & 1.3 models Daihatsu have led the world in the development of an exclusive Intelligent Catalyst; a revolutionary catalyst that does not experience deterioration in exhaust gas purification performance through long term use. A self-regenerating mechanism was created for the precious metal (palladium) found in catalysts that are easily deteriorated by heat, and as a result, a higher level catalytic performance is sustained for a longer period of time. Super Intelligent Catalyst for 1.5 SX model only In addition to the function of the intelligent catalyst, a Super Intelligent Catalyst on the 1.5 SX model contains platinum and rhodium, which are used as catalysts, with a self-regenerating mechanism to boast of even more superior exhaust gas purification. The amount of the valuable precious metals palladium, platinum, and rhodium used in the catalyst can be significantly decreased, and as a result, emissions can also be reduced to a minimum. Technology overview Not all technology within the Sirion is about gears and pistons, of course. Much of the engineering and design has been focused solely to improve convenience and practicality, and help you enjoy the drive. Remote central locking, wide opening doors and a comfortably raised seating position make getting in and out easier. Even with 3 passengers in the rear there is an amazing amount of headroom and legroom. And with front seats that slide backwards and forwards 240mm and a steering wheel that adjusts up and down by 30mm, the Sirion is happy to accommodate all shapes and sizes. As is the wide, low level boot which converts effortlessly into a large loading bay thanks to the 60:40 split, fold flat rear seats, which also benefit from two different recline positions and ISOFIX anchorage points for child seats. All models come equipped with air conditioning as standard. For the driver, the instrument panel is mounted on the steering column, so with the column adjusted for a perfect driving position the instrument panel is never obstructed. Even the smaller details aren’t forgotten. For example: go over 9 mph and if your front passenger has not fastened their seat belt securely, a light and buzzer will bring this to your attention. The tailgate is opened and locked with the remote locking whilst the rear wiper has an intermittent delay. And just to make sure you really enjoy your drive there is an integrated radio/CD player with an external AUX input for a MP3 player for your listening pleasure. 13 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli14 14 15/11/07 09:58:02 Safety for your peace of mind driver and passenger protection Impact Absorbing Body The body of the Sirion achieved effective impact absorption in frontal, side, and rear end collisions against vehicles of different weights and sizes. Crash Tests SRS Airbag System As a supplement to seatbelts, the vehicle features SRS airbags to alleviate impact on passengers, should a collision occur. SRS stands for Supplemental Restraint System. The SRS air bags are supplementary devices to the seat belts. The seat belts must be worn at all times. The front SRS air bags, and SRS side air bags will not deploy in cases of minor impact. In the photo shown, the SRS air bags were intentionally deployed to show their function, and the front passenger seat was set to a reclined position. In an actual collision, only the SRS side air bag on the impact side of the vehicle will be deployed. The Sirion is designed to achieve the top safety level in its class for protecting occupants in the event of a front, rear or side collision with vehicles of all sizes. Energy absorbing body structure Front impact absorber Side impact absorber Pedestrian Protection An impact absorbing structure has been used on the bonnet and cowl area to help reduce head injuries to pedestrians. Pedestrian protection pads are also installed on the front bumper. The cabin is protected by an advanced, shock absorbing structure and the brake and clutch pedals are designed not to intrude into the cabin in event of a collision. There are head restraints for all three rear passengers and the rear seat offers ISOFIX anchorage points for child safety seats – on both sides. We have even designed the body to minimise pedestrian injury. Cowl Area For maximum pedestrian safety the cowl area utilises a crushable structure. Bonnet Panel Again, to minimise injury to pedestrians the bonnet panel is made of an impact absorbing structure. Impact Load Dispersing Structure Collision energy is efficiently absorbed and dispersed, and cabin deformation is suppressed by the optimum positioning of each member and reinforcement including the front side member. Airbag Cutoff Switch An airbag cutoff switch is provided in the glove box on all models, to disable the front passenger airbag so that a child seat can be fitted safely. An ON/OFF indicator is displayed on the instrument panel. ISOFIX Child Seat Anchorage Points The rear seats offers ISOFIX anchorage points for child safety seats on both sides. 14 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli15 15 15/11/07 09:32:08 All Sirions have driver, passenger and side airbags, and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), which uses an Electronic Brakeforce Distributor (EBD) to assure optimum distribution of braking force between front and rear. In addition to this the 1.5 SX is fitted with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) as standard. With the Sirion you can enjoy all the freedom, economy and nimble performance that this great car has to offer, without sacrificing any of the safety or security that you owe to yourself and your family. Vehicle Stability Control on 1.5 SX only Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an advanced control system that combines 3 technologies comprising skid control, traction control system (TCS), and ABS with EBD, to ensure vehicle stability. Skid Control When side slipping is detected, a computer controls engine output and braking to stabilise the vehicle. Traction Control System Traction Control suppresses tyre slippage on slippery roads and ensures a smooth delivery of power and acceleration in accordance with the road surface conditions. Anti-lock Braking System with EBD on all models In addition to an ABS function that prevents the tyres from locking when braking and makes steering possible, the vehicle is equipped with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) to ensure optimum braking force at the front and rear and left and right wheels. Braking point Key: Blue Car – With VSC Silver Car – Without VSC If side slipping occurs in the front wheels, VSC generates inward movement. If side slipping occurs in the back wheels, VSC generates outward movement. With ABS Brake Assist A Brake Assist function is provided for all ABS with EBD systems to support the driver in applying sufficient force on the brake pedal in an emergency. Brake Mechanism Ventilated disc brakes in front assure strong stopping power. 15 DT9_M478_210x297BR_Sirion Faceli16 16 15/11/07 09:32:36 Equipment the usual extras come as standard choice and practicality Citrus Yellow Mica Metallic SX only Standard equipment on all models Safety and Security • Cup holder in driver and passenger armrest • Twin cup holders in front centre console • Twin cup holders in rear centre console • 60/40 split folding rear seat with 3 headrests • Fold flat rear seats • Front door pockets • Driver and passenger sunvisor with vanity mirror • Fully carpeted passenger compartment • Fully trimmed load compartment • Internal release for fuel filler cap • Passenger grip handles • Dipping rear view mirror • Two dashboard mounted speakers • Storage trays • Driver’s airbag Passenger’s airbag Passenger’s airbag cut off switch Side airbag ABS with EBD Side impact protection beams Front body lock seatbelt pretensioner system Front seatbelt force limiter Height adjustable inertia-reel front seat belts Three 3 point rear inertia seat belts ISOFIX child seat anchorage points Laminated windscreen Height adjustable front head restraints Energy absorbing steering column Rigid safety cell Front and rear crumple zones Collision deflecting front frame Burst proof door locks Child proof locks on rear doors Remote central locking Engine immobiliser with coded transponder in key Removeable load compartment cover High level third brake light • Key “left in the ignition” warning buzzer • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • The Sirion offers a level of standard equipment that you’ll find hard to believe – let alone beat.
